I.  Regarding the Doranites and False Rurikid

 

It has, by the wisemen of Kaedrin been brought to our attention that there are brigands claiming Rurikid blood. The corpse of one of these lawless men being brought to the foot of our own Granburgh in search of questions. Upon investigation two crucial facts were discovered of this corpse. Firstly, the corpse bore green eyes, a trait alien to our bloodline despite his supposed claims to ‘Ruric’. Furthermore upon his brow he bore a circlet not of bronze, iron nor thorns, But of gold, an adornment forgone by the highborne of our folk. 

 

We of Hearth and Throne do suspect that these folk are associated with the Rurik exile by the name of Doran. Distant cousin of the now almost passed. Freysson branch of the Rurikid. The Freysson blood having been thought to breathe its last during the Dragon’s war. Alvar, chieftain of that ancient clan slain by brigands whilst he was at drink. His children taken by disease and miscarriage. Of that line few remain. Yet none of these still breathing have made themselves known to us. Thus we make it known that these false Ruriks bear no relation to our realm. Their claims extinguished by olde law. They are not of the folk. Particularly this now expired fellow by the name of ‘Jon Ruric’

 

II. The Position of Mordsgrad in regards to the Empire

 

 I am sure, as whispers of our reformation have filtered throughout the realms of man the question has oft been raised. ‘What of the Rurikid?’. A fair query when viewed through the lens of our tumultuous history. We Nordish who remain, veterans of the Dragon’s war, heirs to naught but diaspora and exile. We do not forget. The only Nordish realm that still bears a Hearthfire is known to us as Mordsgrad. At its helm sit the lineage of Edvard. To those ignorant of our blood this likely means nothing. We do not seek war, we do not seek oaths, we do not seek friend, nor partner in trade. We seek peace, to dwell in our solitude, to raise our children in our chosen home, to worship our God. When my uncle Thoromir II took oaths to Aurelius to us he guaranteed our Faith. When Alvar swore oaths to Antonius preceding the Dragon’s war. To us he guaranteed our faith. When we shed our blood on southern fields. Lost brothers, sons, daughters for southern wars. We guaranteed our faith. Yet, having seen far too much of war and bloodshed in the bloody horrors of Helena. We surrendered our land and dissolved our ancient titles. Seeking peace, seeking distance from the webs of heartland life. 

 

Once more the winds of war stir the hearts of southern lords. Once more blood is shed by those who share an Empire of Oren. In the past, Emperors desperate for obedience, for stability have scapegoated our people. Some justified some not. Drawing from the shed blood of the Nordish folk. The power to fear blades from the dark. To spend a life looking over one’s shoulder. Fearing one’s own brothers. I digress. We, the Nordish do not seek war. From us there shall be no raids, no choking of the roads, no venturing south. The Empire of Oren shall see no hostility from us. But we are tired of the ways of the heartland man. We shall see no part in it.  

 

III. The Confines of Mordsgrad

 

We lay claim to those lands north of the neck. That bridge between the greenlands and the frozen dunes and fjords of the frozen isle. Those frozen lands north of the neck shall henceforth be referred to as the Northmarch territory. This territory shall be held as the exclusive and independent demesne of the Lord of the Nordish Granburgh. Referred to previously as ‘Mordsgrad’, administered from ‘The Rock’. Over this demesne we retain exclusive privilege to levy fyrd, tax and exploit the minerals, game, and lumber.

 

IV. Relation of the Nordish Realm to All Parties

 

In reference to all realms, great or small that populate the face of Arcas. We of the Nordish realm shall exist in a state of non-aggression and non-intervention with all nations. We are not interested in trade agreements. Merely treaties of non-aggression. Those who visit with good intentions and calm words shall be treated fairly. Those seeking conflict will be met with intolerance.
