In the past year, Arcas has fallen victim to what can only be interpreted as a rising of the truest expression of the Long Dark we have faced in recent times. Comets have fallen from the sky, and from the flames have spawned an army of Inferi; Demons in the truest sense of the word. This army of the damned, twisted souls corrupted by the hell from which they spawned, have begun constructing fortifications and preparing their legions for war. Our own people, alongside our allies, went and met these beasts on the field. Though we fought well, our attack was ultimately repelled. These demons we face are an enemy like no other; Their fury and bloodlust is matched only by their stubborn refusal to die.

 

As the various Descendant nations of Arcas prepare to defend against the hordes of the damned, the time has come for the Children of the Flame to declare their intentions. As the tenets demand, it is our duty to stand against the Long Dark, and there is no truer expression of the Long Dark than a legion of twisted souls coming from a plane beyond our own with the goal of spilling mortal blood. We have lived on this land and tilled its soil. We have bled and died for this land. This land is ours to defend, and we must do exactly that. Today, we declare our intention to either destroy this unholy enemy or defend against it for as long as possible. 

 

For the defense of the peoples of Norland; For the defense of the Dwarven folk; For the defense of the Elves; For the defense of the sons of Krug; For the defense of the Heartlanders of the Empire and the Farfolk of Korvassa; For the defense of all who call this land home, the Red Faith shall take up arms to drive this army of hell back into the Abyss that spawned it. Followers of the Faith, bear your blades, for the time has come to fight, for the good of all who draw breath on Arcas. To those reading this who are not of the Faith, it is in your best interests to do the same.

Tilly would read the missive, her heartbeat pounding in her ears. She had known it when she faced the demons and their massive, nearly unkillable hell hounds alongside the orcs, she had known it when the comets had come crashing down out of the sky in a fiery display that struck fear into her heart, and she had known in it in her heart when the sky had gone dark. In fact, her suspicions had begun years ago, though then they were no more than conspiracy theories. Yet now, it had been put into words that she read with her own eyes, and suddenly, somehow, it felt more real. The Long Dark was indeed upon them as she had once feared, now in earnest. Now, reading it on paper, she felt the weight of the reality settle onto her shoulders. If the wrong moves are made, if they should prove not to be strong enough in spirit and in body, this could prove to be the end of all life on Arcas. She stared a long time at the paper, a million horrors playing through her mind, before she raised her eyes to the fire before her. Slowly, methodically, she burned the letter, feeling hope as the fire consumed the parchment, and steeled her will. To her last breath, she would fight, and by the All Father’s will the Red Faith would prevail against this cataclysm.
