THE LORD MAYOR’S PRESS

[!] This press was found pasted across every door; every streetlamp; and along the sidewalks in The City of Helena.

The Fourteenth of Owyn's Flame; 1778.

My Fellow Helenians,

I’ve a few thoughts I’d like to share, as your appointed representative, your neighbour, and your elected Lord Mayor, of this most fine and respectable city- upon the subject of  recent events: this encompasses the recent devastation of meteor strikes across our world, and the unholy forces of malice that spawn and crawl from their craters, these demonic legions - also known by the notation: Inferi, or Infernals - are enemies of the Holy Orenian Empire and The Church of The Canon, and it will be in your most faithful interest and duty to take an active, immediate approach in slaying and dispatching these beasts if you are ever so unfortunate as to encounter such hideous forces of darkness, should you bear the strength and resolve, as they are doubtless in their firm and unyielding allegiance to The High Hells.

Thereby, in addition, regarding our other, most pressing issue, this troublesome conflict marked by hundreds of respective skirmishes - our political and military enemies: The Hangmen, seem to persist against all odds, a constant thorn; still lodged in the side of The Ruby City, but fear not, for their time will come. This is indeed my civil promise: The Hangmen shall see Holy Oren in power and tremble with unshakable fear, as this empire charges towards them, they will truly for the first time, see our might. This I say, that they will see the fury and terrible wrath in our eyes, and know without the folly of doubt, that we will never surrender, lose, or bend our heads to such nefarious derelicts such as them. So, take heart! Look upon them with the foretold fury and wrath, that motivates our preservation of our life! Furthermore, we shall have The Beneficent, The Most Holy, Highest Lord: GOD with us. So rally and call to arms, your family, your neighbours, your local shopkeepers, and their clerks, and fight. We must, together, sharpen with whetstones, our blades, and our words and rend firm all our steely chainmail. Thereby, each of you shall receive by extent, a civil commendation greater than that of any medal, certification, or mandate: you shall receive the most desirable reward of coming home, tired and made weary from battle, yet pleased to look upon a freed homeland, full with glorification and happiness, echoing in the streets. This is our right, and our privilege, as the servants of His Majesty, The Holy Orenian Emperor - and the entitlement of any citizen belonging behind the stalwart walls of The Ruby City, Helena.

Though these are the most urgent responsibilities and preoccupations of my tenure as your Lord Mayor, I am obliged to mention these following announcements as part of this press release - as I am instructed, by our fearless military leaders, our strategic political minds, and our ruling bodies. I will also mention that though none of the recommendations are, at this time, enforced by law, debates and sessions of Local Government are being held to decide whether they should be more closely policed, as adherence to them may prove to be the difference between a legislative condemnation, and possible fines, should certain motions be passed. Though more information and wartime press should be released on this in the coming weeks, so it is also encouraged to remain in the know on such particular subjects, as they arise:

1. I first, and foremost advise all citizens within The City of Helena who are eligible, and of fine physical quality as to enter combat to register for battle, as soon as it may be possible: for this, please notify an officer- or above, in rank under the Imperial State Army (ISA), or alternatively, contact any individual of the City Government, such as myself, The City Clerk, or The City Speaker, who will be only too glad to assist you in your reserve registration paperwork. This call for wartime reserves need not, and will not apply to those of the infirm, elderly, or the immature young - and application for these classes of society are strictly prohibited. Though if you currently work, and believe this legal prohibition extends to yourself, promptly seek to gain permits of exemption from the sources that have been listed above.

2. I secondly, in the memory of St. Tobias of Sarkoz: who was, and still is, The Patron Saint of Charity, do most desperately encourage those within The City of Helena who currently experience the benefit of surplus, or significant abundance in their trade: to donate whatever they are willing to share towards to our war efforts, so that these possessions and goods might support those of our finest soldiers, who are committed to continuing their valiant struggle on the front lines. There is not a single donation or contribution that would not be accepted or appreciated, and it is, under this request, that one must remember the blessedness of generosity, as our wisened Leaders of Faith, and The High Pontiff himself, have frequently made emphasised the importance of, with the firm neediness in the troubled times we now face.

3. I thirdly, and lastly, urge every homeowner and tenant in The City of Helena who travel outside our walls for trade, exploration, or visitation purposes to request in advance, military escort: or, if such an arrangement is not convenient - to seek permission to leave the realm through the Southern Gates of The Ruby City, closest in distance to The Novellen Palace. This will prove a much safer option, as those who transport their wares or carriages from that site will be less likely to experience then terrifying threat of banditry and the encountering of ruffians along The Southern Highway. I would also suggest the purchasing and carrying of weaponry, within legal allowance and, for obvious reasons, with reason. Though this may be confiscated by legal authorities such as The Imperial State Army upon your return, as is becoming more common during this time, for the greater safety of The Holy Orenian Empire. Their orders should always be complied with, for our preservation.

The last request I will make of you, fellow citizens - is to, with haste, send correspondance to my office if you have any thoughts or criticisms on this press release, and any such inquiries about the content contained within. Though remember, for all of us - we serve our country, above all other things. This however, is not only maintained in blind patriotism, or flippant shows of wealth: but in an obligation to care for what is important to our society, and to keep yourselves safe in every endeavour you undertake. Never let your guard down! Never become complacent! Never let fearfulness control the population!

May the LORD keep every one of you,

THE RT. HONOURABLE, Jermaine J'mault

Lord Mayor of Helena, The Bard of Novellen.

“Mister Jermaine is such a good Lord Mayor of the City of Helena.” The Minister of the Interior would mutter, before nodding in approval to the missive from the Office of the Lord Mayor as he finishes reading it.

"To War, Orenians!” Sir Edward would also exclaim to his employees of the Ministry of the Interior before going to sharpen his Cascadian sword in the Hall of the Livery Company of Ironmongers, Blacksmiths and Founders.
