Silently moving at top the high canopy of laurelin, the wind carrying his each step, concealing the sounds created as each branch parts. Most people marvel at the beauty of a sunrise, awaiting its magical essence, as it gifts the land with its touch. Sypher stood there that night, away from the world around him, high above those below him. He stood in high regard of the utter magnificence of the moon; his white hair blending into its soft light, his dark obsidian skin parallel to the night sky and his red bloodshot eyes masking years of pain and anger. His gaze shifts, his eyes blistering with the strength of the full moon, searching for what he once had, searching for what calms his heart and mind even though it has been over 100 years. He searches for her....

Sypher was raised by his High Elf Mother (Alena) and Dark Elf Father (Rayjin), a classic case of opposites attract. Throughout his childhood, his father taught him not to trust anyone and that he was superior to those around him. He taught Sypher specific skills such as weaponry, stealth and deceit, although when it came to his own passed, his father had always avoided confrontation. His mother Alena was a kind woman who he cared for deeply and at times of great rage, his mother would be the only one who could calm his heart.

Growing up with parents of different sub races, I did not feel at ease within the city of Laurelin. The sun’s constant shine kept me in the shadows and forced me to venture out in search of something greater. Rarely did I sit at home and ponder life’s mysterious as my brother (Heyrin) had done. While he favoured literature, legend and history; I had finally found what I thought had only existed in stories. As I stood many miles under the earth, I had found the city of dark elves. It was majestic in exterior and housed breathtaking architecture; that of which I had not seen in the streets of Laurelin. The underground landscape was dynamic, consisting of deep water ravines, a giant network of caves and hollowed out sections in the walls which inhabited various underground creatures. There was little to no light in the city besides a few glowing rocks covered with fungi, although I had come to realize that I was gifted with the ability to see in the dark.

I had soon become familiar with the city and its culture. In particular, the dark elves relationship with arachnids and the gift of darkness the spider queen had given them. The robes I wear today are in honour of the spider queen’s gift, entrenched in red and black. Meanwhile my brother Heyrin had stayed within The Holy Princedom of Malinor, achieving academic heights and caring for my mother. As time passed I spent more of my days with the dark elves and more time away from home, away from my mother. In that time my brother grew to see me as a son who had not been by his mother side, who had abandoned his family. It was at that time that I had begun to realise the anger within me had grown too far and what once were sins, had become nature.

I returned home eager to hear my mothers voice, instead I was meet by the sight of my brother refusing my return “You are never coming near her again you monster, what have you become? Each time you leave, you create a void in her heart!” “I will not let her see you anymore!” My heart was racing in my chest and there were screams inside my head. I stepped forward and drew my sword “I can’t control this, It‘s who I am and she is the only cure. Let me see her!” With an unwavering look on his face Heyrin drew his sword and begun to charge. We had fought each other viciously that night, matched in strength and skill until the sun had begun to rise. We were both pushed past our limits and the full force of my anger was released. We stood there in silence unable to move another muscle, all that time underground I had forgotten the suns properties. Without warning the sun had reached my red eyes, blinding me momentarily and throwing me to the ground. As I adjusted to the light and the blurred objects in front of me soon regained their shape, he no longer stood breathing heavily in front of me...he had taken my mother and vanished.

100 years later I stand gazing at the full moon, my mind, heart and soul taken over by darkness, my body cloaked in red and black and my left eye covered by my white hair. Even though I still search for her each and every day, I fear it may be too late. I live by a life of treachery and deceit, infiltrating kingdoms, manipulating races and spreading darkness upon the land of Aegis. They took my mother from me, they’re keeping her away and they will pay!
