So it has been that King Halvar Edvardsson has made it his royal prerogative to fill and maintain a Book of Clans which documents those clans of past and present which have earned their place in this book. THOSE OF UNTESTED STEEL CHAPTER I: THE BLOOD OF THE HERALD The Rurikkid is the ruling dynasty of the Kingdom of Norland, producing all of Norland's legitimate rulers over the centuries. All male direct descendants of Thoromir Ruricsson Armahnk are members of the Rurikkid. This lineage is known as the 'Blood of the Herald', with the family boasting both a great number of living members and storied history. CLAN EDVARDSSON Thegn Conan Edvardsson “Blood and Faith” The sons of the first son, Edvard ‘the Terrible’, first King of Norland. The Edvardssons have played a significant role in the Kingdom of Norland often with notable Kings, Hands, and Keepers. Central to the son of Edvard is the tenets of the Red Faith and the guidance of the All-Father. Great triumphs and great tribulations define the clan. Those of Eirik's line have led the Kingdom of Norland through its greatest and darkest times with Blood and Honor. When a Rurikkid embarks on extended travels, adopts Southlander customs, or generally distances themselves from the Light of the Father and His Chosen People’s Kingdom, they will take on a new name. CLAN ASHTON / ROSIK Chieftain Nykolai Rosik “Endure” Clan Rosik was founded by the first born bastard son of King Eirik ‘The Great’, Nykolai, who served loyally as the houndmaster of Seahelm until being granted the title of Chieftain by his father on his deathbed. Many years later, Torsten Rosik would wish to distance himself from the Ruric family and would claim his descent from Olaf Ashton, eventually becoming King Torsten I. Today, Clan Rosik nurtures Lakian direhounds and Rosikan warhorses, some of the finest beasts in all of Norland. Avon Ruric, once a loyal Rurikkid, turned against his kin during the Atlas Coalition War. The Caunters have since stood as a testament to the complexities of loyalty, sacrifice, and the unyielding pursuit of redemption over the last 300 years. Their names, deeds, and glories are widely remembered by the Father’s Chosen. CLAN VOLAREN Chieftain Vykk Volaren "Legacy, Loyalty, Legendary" Norland, born from the vision and valor of Vykk Volaren and his brother Robin Volaren, traces its roots back to this Narvaukian clan. The esteemed members of Clan Volaren embody legendary figures who shaped Norland's destiny, be it through its founding, their ascent as paragons of the Red Faith, the establishment of the renowned bandit group known as The Reivers, their leadership in the Norlandic military, or their unwavering loyalty to the realm spanning countless generations. Yet another of the oldest Norlandic Clans still active, Clan Faretto maintains a strong connection with the Red Faith. Historically known for their Keepers and Purifiers, the Farettos are often viewed as hostile to foreigners and profligates, known not to suffer fools for long. The Silversteeds would go on to serve the kingdom loyally for many years, boasting three Thanes in their ranks. However, this loyalty would end when the Clan rebelled following the death of King Jevan ‘The Ash Prince’. After the fall of Nordengrad, Izekeil Arden was named a thane in Dunharrow. Fisceres pride themselves in their naval abilities, which stem from the Clan’s humble beginnings as a fishing family that sold fish in the markets of Nordengrad. With only one living member left to this day, Thane Kenswey continues to loyally serve the crown of Norland. Known for reviving Norlandic tradition and establishing their own customs; these clans gave way for a new Kingdom and the rekindling of Norland. HOUSE CAMIAN Matriarch Aeva Camian No recorded words First rising to prominence in the Morsgradi era, the House Camian was established by High Keeper Alisa Camian. Owing to their founder's station and reputation, the family rose to great influence within the realm, despite being few in number, and remained a prominent influence for well over a century. However, vindictive as the family tends to be, grave disagreements with the Crown during the reign of King Odin Freysson led them to assume a policy of repudiation with Norlandic affairs until such time as their grievances were settled. Known primarily for their associations with the Red Clergy and blood-ties to the Clan Faretto, they have a well-earned reputation for both their piety and at times, their volatile nature. Spoiler Notable Members High Keeper Alisa Camian High Keeper Mera Camian Marshal Asmund Camian Casimira Edvardsson CLAN KVITRAVN Chieftain Dominic Kvitraven “Our blade never dulls” The origins of Clan Kvitravn hail from the waning years of Arcas during the reign of King Halvar. Founded by Einar 'The Bear-Slayer', the Clan has a long and extensive history of military involvement within the Kingdom of Norland. Having served in the Norlandic-Orenian War, the Nyrheim Northern War, the War of Wigs, and the Cartref Mor Uprising to name a few, the Clan has a very well-defined and unique warrior tradition within Norland. Some might even say that Clan Kvitravn's traditions are strange even among fellow Norlanders, yet members of the Clan hold these traditions very close to their hearts and allow their customs to guide them in their determination to the All-Father and Norland. They are easily recognizable by their T-visor helms that they hand-craft themselves, or in the case of biological Kvitravns, their unique white hair. Spoiler Notable Members Einar ‘The Bear-Slayer’ Hali Dominic Thane Eyvind II CLAN VILDR Chieftain Ciaran Vildr “Family, Faith, Fury” Clan Vildr originates from the marriage between Edric and Rowanna. Neither had come from great families, with Edric himself adopting the moniker of ‘Witchslayer’, to make up for his absence of a family name. The two elected to adopt the name of Vildr after being wed. The name originates from the Old Norlandic words for ‘Wild Fire’, inspired firstly by Edric’s temperament, secondly by their shared love of the All Father and the Red Faith, and thirdly, by their feelings for eachother. Members of this clan are known to be hot tempered, extremely loyal, and prone to getting into trouble one way or another. Sutharlainns were former vassals of Norland, prior to the destruction of Almaris. Now the clan is once again a vassal over a small hamlet called Dunrobain. They are expected to continue to win glories, victories, and perform great deeds. CLAN STURMSTRIKE Chieftain Grimm Sturmstrike “Stehend durch den Sturm” Initially formed in the twilight years of Nyrheimian Norland, Clan Sturmstrike is the dream of a man that had lost everything, only to find it once again through the All-Father’s grace. While mostly composed of humans, Clan Sturmstrike is a wild card among clans; a refuge for any fellow misfits ready to fight for the family they’ve found in each other. Whether it be investigation, surveillance, or even alchemy, Clan Sturmstrike always stands ready to do whatever needs to be done. CLAN GYLLDENE Chieftain Farian Gylldene “Let the arts flourish” A recent addition to the clans of Norland, formed in the first years of Vjardengrad. While Clan Gylldene's founding members were not a family by blood, they are a family by choice. Members of Clan Gylldene strive to provide the people of Norland with their joy and arts. The clan’s contributions include hosting festivals, planning events, coordinating with other nations in joint festivities and activities, and spreading the art of Bardmancy and Housemagery to the citizenry. CLAN HESKYNNE Chieftain Vyulan Heskynne *No Sigil* "Beneath the golden stag's grace, we hunt, sow, and shield the realm's embrace." Heskynne's origins are hidden behind a thick veil of mystery, with only oral legend to speak of its founder, Ivar the Unending. Vyulan Ther Heskynne brings the clan back as he reunites his distant clansmen in an effort to continue the lineage and traditions. The Clan's contributions to the realm have ranged from the defense against an Urguani siege, to slaying a beast of the forests near Lake Inga. Heskynne culture focuses on agriculture and hunting, yet has plenty of experience on the battlefield. Most biological Heskynnes bare dark skin and curled hair, as well as jade eyes. The Clan armor dons a cloth across the torso, the head of a golden stag set upon a green background. ((OOC Disclaimer: The Norlandic Book of Clans is kept under constant guard and locked within the depths of the Norlandic Vault. In no way would you be able to see it, or anything written within, unless you were admitted into the Norlandic Vault. To be admitted you must be a citizen of the Kingdom of Norland who has been explicitly granted access by someone who has the appropriate authority i.e. Chancellor of Norland or King of Norland. He transcribes the old script onto new parchment and sorts older pages into different filings for review. He shows the High Keeper @_Elrith_ his half-completed work.
