"I have traveled across this land for many years, alone I been

for many many years, Through the blistering heat of the orc

homeland and the cold of old forgotten ruins of ancient

mountain structures. I have met many men through my travels,

but yet I am still alone. I wander gathering what the people

people need, just to sell it all to pay for what I need, But

no matter the amount of money I make, alone I will be. That is

the merchant way" -Anonymous

After and comment left on my guild topic, I agree with it. There should be no guild merchants with no ranks and no requirments besides being a merchant. I have reconized that merchants can sometimes untrust worthy, or unobiedent to the laws and sometimes disobey the unwritten laws of the merchants, I thus have decided to form a merchant council to create laws that all merchants should follow and to maybe help set prices on crtain items if need be to avoid arguments over prices. I wish you to comment after fully reading this topic on your thoughts upon this idea and I will also be posting and proposal for the council format and this is not fully reconized as a council, but I would love to read your comments and ideas about this idea. The council is also to decided on problems that should be resolved and other vairous merchant issues.

Proposed Council Format

-Merchant_High_Member: The highest member of the council. He/She rules over the council and over see's all of the meetings. The Merchant_High_Member has the right to veto any new merchant law created ounce a week and to schedual council meetings. His/Her vot counts as two. He is voted into council by the Merchant council members and can serve as much as two concecitive terms in a row. His/Her Term is two months and He/She must be a Merchant_council_Member before He/She can be Merchant_High_Member.

-Merchant_Council_Advisor: His/Her job is to set out and talk to the people and kings/queens to see about problems about merchants that should be resolved and to see how the people/kings/queens like the new merchant laws. They are chosen by the Merchant_High_Member and are in this council rank for as long as the Merchant_High_Member is in power

-Merchant_Council_Member: There shall be five of these council members that are voted to this council rank by there merchant peers and are in this rank for one month and can be in voted back to power up to two concective times. There jobs are to propose new laws and to decide on what should be fixed or changed among the merchant world, the votes count as one

-Merchant_Lord: They have no power in the main council, there job is to keep the laws inforced in each city. There is one for each city and is in power for up two 3 months then he/she will have to step down and choose a new Merchant_Lord for his/her city they rule over

-Merchant_Guard: There are at least one in each city and are appointed and ruled by that citys Merchant_Lord. There jobs are to roam the streets and to inforce the Merchant Laws, They are in term for as long as the citys Merchant_Lord Seems it fit.

Merchant Laws

***No laws Have yet to be created do to this is not yet official, it is to purly listen to your feedback upon this idea***

I rather like the diversity and variety that merchants bring. A roleplaying world needs cheap greedy merchants who rip people off as well as honest hardworking ones. Price variety is also interesting. Rarely are there actually arguments over such things that would require a system such as above to solve. It's just a bit too complicated for the situation. Also, even with guards, enforcing the rules would be near impossible, as well as deciding on the rules to begin with.

I agree with everything Petyr says, as usual.

Yet, you rejected the free melon seeds I offered you.... :(

What could possibly work for you is union groups for certain industries. It would be voluntary.

I've been a merchant for many many years and have seen prices vary greatly among items. Examples being diamonds from 150-500 or more minas a piece and bread from 17 down to 2 and back up to 15 minas. As far as set prices are concerned... i've always been against it as different areas have different needs. ((I feel, that also having set prices would be difficult to implement as i have noticed that for a most part, the richest players with very much sway on laws also set some of the highest prices at their shops. In a few instances i feel this might be to bolster their competitors' business.)) I've always tried to set the lowest or lower of prices but as i gained popularity and minas, i felt the need to have other newer players outsell me so they could get a name for themselves just as how i started. I feel that setting prices is a fundamental choice a merchant should figure out for themselves and not have someone telling them this. I do however support a merchants council to address all issues involving the needs of merchants including the ability to buy good shops, transport their items safely(as merchants are a prime candidate for bandits), and also simply having a group of like-minded tradesmen and women to converse with.

Ok, I will speak with Petyr about those ideas you mention you liked because I too hate being killed and robbed on a way to a city to sell my goods and I like to speak to other merchants about certains issues and trying to resolve them, but I think this will be incorperated with this new Union idea, but thanks for the advice

There's already a topic on this. I started it. Called the Unofficial Merchants Union or something like that.

Kido, In addition to the PM's where we've discussed this, you should talk to Uggg... he has a similar, yet slightly more refined idea.

Ok I will.
