TO OUR DENIZENS OF THE MARCHLANDS,

By the decree of His Serene Highness, Prince Richard I of Stassion, let it be known that the House of Temesch has turned its back on the Marchlands of Stassion and renounced their oaths of fealty, having fled our lands in search of refuge to avoid the consequences of their actions. Therefore, the Marchlands of Stassion do hereby revoke the title of Baron of Montfort as well as all other titles and honors granted unto the House of Temesch given to them by Stassion. Furthermore, they are to be expelled from our lands and to never return to Fredericksburg unless at the invitation of His Serene Highness.

Robyn reads over the missive a few times. She thinks of her own experiences since she came to live in Stassion: the ever-looming threat to her safety; the gates that remain tightly shut; the open distrust she sees in the faces of outsiders when she admits where she hails from. As much as she values loyalty, she cannot truly blame the House of Temesch for seeking refuge elsewhere as the war rages on. But she keeps these thoughts to herself, at least for now.
