Not Even a Goodbye [PK]

It would be the first night in many, many years since the Silva household had gone without a warm meal. Marol had left to look for herbs and never came home. There were no letters. There was no warning. She had done this so many times before and came home with plenty of time to cook dinner. So, where was she?

Marol was a shell of herself. She didn’t invite friends over anymore. She hardly practiced medicine. She didn’t even go out to taverns to enjoy the impersonal company of other drunkards anymore. It was as though Marol had been dead long before her true final day.

She had trapped herself in her own little box. She couldn’t see outside of it. All she could think to do anymore was care for her home and family. She was little more than a housewife.

This was never how she envisioned herself when she left her mother’s home so many years ago. She had wanted adventure and excitement. She had hoped people would seek her out one day for her skills and abilities. Now the only people who sought her was her family. Nothing was left of the young woman from 66 years ago. Nothing but those little herb hunts.

Her herb hunts were the little bits of adventure she enjoyed. Often she went alone, though occasionally she was accompanied by one of her grandkids. That day, she was alone. She had wandered into the dark forest by herself but she had done this so many times before. She thought she was safe.

There under the thick branches that blocked up most light, she heard an awful voice. It sounded like nails on a chalkboard. She had tried as she so often did to talk her way out of it with her usual sweetness and charm, but for once, her words were useless. That creature wanted only one thing from her. Suffering. It was something the pacifist couldn’t provide in any other way than her own pain and eventual death.

It wasn’t a death with purpose or one surrounded by loved ones. It was the death of a tool. Her neck was slit in a cold dark room to cause another pain.

As her life left her, there wasn’t any sadness in its loss, only that she couldn’t say goodbye. She hadn’t expected death to strike so sudden. She had always thought there would be a warning, a chance to say goodbye. She couldn’t even croak out a goodbye to her sister-in-law as she was killed in front of her. It was all left unsaid and unfinished.

Spoiler

Marol was my first persona on lotc and I loved getting to play her. She had a lot of fun adventures but it finally felt time to end it. She had lost a lot of direction and it felt like there was no way to get her back to having a story of her own without killing all the parts of her I loved so it felt more fitting to PK her. I didn't want her to sit around with no real ending to her story.

I want to thank all the people who made her story so great. I loved all the heartfelt moments, the drama, and the silliness I got to enjoy with her. She had such a beautiful little family and so many great friends.

I want to give a special thanks to my friends @Master Monkey and @Otakuu for assisting me in giving her a memorable end. You both are amazing!

Stay safe everyone! I can't wait to see all the new stories I will get to enjoy even now that Marol's is done!
