Lore

The Runehammer clan was formed by Grimmnir Runehammer upon him reaching adulthood, and mastering the art of smithing. At the age of twenty-three Grimmnir was named the Grand Master of the Oldfire Forge, a royal guild within Urguan.

Appearance

Being descendants of mountain dwarves, they are somewhat short compared to other mountain dwarf clans with their height ranging from 3 '5 to only 4’ tall. While being on the short side Runehammer's also boasts a hefty body, with muscles hidden by their inherent fat. The clan also boasts deep red hair that is known for its thickness, and length. The face of a Runehammer is rather pudgy boasting a large nose, and green-hued eyes.

Armor, and Weapons

The Runehammer clan finds itself wearing thick plated black-ferrum, with aurum trimmings. While it revokes some movement it makes up for its durability, and defensive capabilities.

The clan trains its members in a few different types of weapon, the most notable being hammers, maces, and flails taking an obvious liking to weapons that can easily dent and shatter plate armor. They are also all trained to wield a shield to increase their ability to defend.

In combat a Runehammer would often find themselves focusing on defense, and waiting for the enemy to make the first move. They are very reactive fighters and prefer to attempt to parry blows, and block them.

Trials

The Runehammer clan is strange in the aspect that they are a blooded can, but it is possible to take on a bastard name, and you would still be considered part of the clan with the disadvantage of not being able to run for the position of Grand Rune Forger. The bastard name is Forgefire. The clan is known for few things, but those things they are working towards becoming the masters of with them being metalworking, alchemy, and golemancy.

The Craft Masters Rite

The first, and most important of the trials is for the newly blooded Emberling to prove themselves a worthy smith, and to craft their smithing hammer. This hammer is seen as a sign of respect, and honor among the Runehammers and thus they are not truly part of the clan till this is complete. This must be done in front of the Grand Rune Forger to ensure that no fraud takes place.

The Grand Forge Rite

The second trial of a newly blooded is to now smith a weapon of their choice. This weapon must be of masterwork quality, and be done in front of the eyes of the Grand Rune Forger. This may seem like a simple task but if there is even the smallest imperfection the trial fails.

The Prosperity Rite

The final trial of a newly blooded is to prove their ability as a merchant, and also their loyalty to the clan. They must find a way to make five hundred mina, and donate it to the clan leader. This is a large but it is to help ensure the members of the clan are dedicated. In addition the total amount can be reduced by deeds completed.

Tradition
The clan worships the Brathmordakin just like any true dwarf of Urguan, but they also venerate metal, and stone. This is seen with the fact they refuse to mass produce something when they smith, and instead are known to put all of their heart into the crafting of specialty crafted items.

The Eternal Burial

This tradition is carried out upon the death of a member of the clan. Their body will be laid in a stone sarcophagus constructed personally for them, dictating their notable deeds. In their hands they will be laid with their smithing hammer. The sarcophagus is then laid in the burial hall of the Runehammer clan to forever rest with their kin.

The Forgefire Tournament

With smithing being held to such a high regard the clan hosts a competition among all of its members both blooded, and bastard to partake in every twelve years. This occasion is a way for all members to show off their skills, and abilities to smith. In addition it is a way to get the chance to learn under a Forge Guard, or even the Grand Rune Forger.

The Steel Wright Feast

The Steel Wright Feast is done every time a member of the clan completes their three trials, and proves themselves worthy of being within the clan. It is a grand feast with a vast amount of food, and drink. In addition at this time the Grand Rune Forger offers a gift to the Steel Wright that will be custom made based upon what they see.

Hierarchy

Grand Rune Forger

The Grand Rune Forger leads the clan; it is their job to ensure the clan continues to run. This is a title held for life, and upon the death of the Grand Rune Forger a vote is held amongst the Forge Guards to elect a new Grand Rune Forger. The tasks of the Grand Rune Forger are to oversee the trials, enforce rules, and ensure the clan continues to live. You must be a blooded to become the Grand Rune Forger

Forge Guard

The Forge Guard are the most respected members within the clan, and are hand selected by the Grand Rune Forger. They serve for life, or until the Grand Rune Forger determines you are no longer worthy of the title. There are never more than seven Forge Guard at a time. The tasks of the Forge Guard are to enforce rules, defend the Clan Hall with their life, and teach the younger members the art of smithing.

Steel Wright

The Steel Wrights are the most common within the clan as they are members who have completed all three of their trials, and proved to be worthy of being in the clan. These tasks are vast, and hard to list but the most notable is responding to the call to arms if Urguan goes to war.

Emberling

Newly born members, or newly unblooded dwarves who have not completed their trials. They are treated with little respect, and have no real tasks as they are not yet trusted.

Friend of the Forge

Folk who are named friends of the Forge are respected amongst the clan, and given permission to come to many events hosted.
