The Commonwealth of the Petra has been guarded by many banners, from citizen militias to knightly orders. In light of the peaceful dissolution of the Heartlandic Confederation, a new banner has arisen to shield the Commonwealth, and to stand for its allies. The Swords of Saint Emma is a collection of warriors, soldiers, and auxiliary fighters, bound by their dedication to honing their skills and protecting the free peoples of the Commonwealth. The Swords are characterized by the varied and unique range of fighters held within, every Swordsman with their own piece of mastery to hone.

CITIZEN GUARDS

 

Not every person invested in the safety of their Commonwealth wishes to become a full-fledged soldier. From tradesmen to noblemen, there are many who seek the continued safety of their home while also pursuing other avenues. If this speaks to you, you are encouraged to enlist in the role of CITIZEN GUARD. Citizen guards are granted participation in gate duty and patrols, while not being held to the obligations of a strict uniform or schedule. They are able to perform their duties in their garb of choice, when they are available to. A citizen guard is not required to take the oath, though may be promoted to the rank of Swordsman for exceptional service if they choose. Citizen guards are not authorized to perform arrests unless in life-threatening circumstances.

 

 

SWORDSMEN

 

The refined ranks of the Commonwealth’s forces, SWORDSMEN are those who have dedicated themselves valiantly to the safety and security of their nation. Soldiers that have taken the Oath of Saint Emma, and sworn to hone their skills with the blade to the finest edge. Swordsmen are given the power to command and delegate the duties of citizen guards in the absence of a Blade Commandant. They are expected to perform their duties in uniform, displaying their skill proudly. Squires for the Knightly Order of the Petrine Laurel are most often selected from the ranks of the Swordsmen, who have already proven their desire towards combative mastery. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

TRUE BLADES

Refined wielders of the blade, TRUE BLADES, have dedicated their life for the Oath of Saint Emma, seeking for the security of their nation and their peers, using their strength for the betterment of the nation. True Blades have the power to organize, command and delegate mining runs and combat training in case of the absence of the Blade Commandants, being above Citizen Guards and Swordsmen. They are expected to serve and perform their duties in their armor, displaying their skill with the blade and the dedication to the Oath proudly.

 

 

 

BLADE COMMANDANT

 

The steadiest hands within the Swords of Saint Emma, COMMANDANTS have proven their mettle as both fighters and leaders, and have been elevated for their service. Commandants are responsible for commanding the ranks below them and will take leadership in any scenario where the Master of Blades is not present. They are responsible for carrying out regular training exercises and patrols, to keep both lower ranks and themselves sharp and readied. Commandants hold the authority to oath others into the rank of Swordsmen, to promote Swordsmen to True Blades, to hold military ceremonies, and to represent the Swords of Saint Emma upon the Garmont Assembly, as well as other legislative matters in the absence of the Master of Blades.

 

 

 

 

 

MASTER OF BLADES

Leader of the Petrine armed forces, and commander of the Swords of Saint Emma. The MASTER OF BLADES is one who has earned their position through ceaseless work, training, and a pursuit of perfection. The Master of Blades may command citizen guards, Swordsmen, True Blades and Blade Commandants alike. They are the sole holder of the ability to promote True Blades to Commandants, and are responsible for distribution of the military’s finances. Holding a seat on the River Council, they are the primary representative in all military matters, equal to the authority of the Knight-Commander.

 

The minimum age of enlistment within the Swords of Saint Emma will be sixteen. Children below the age of sixteen who wish to begin their military experience early may register with a Commandant to become a CADET. Cadets may participate in training exercises supervised by a Commandant, but may not go on patrols, military excursions, or perform unsupervised gate duties.

 

Citizens of the Petra who were previously oathed members of the Legion of Saint Godwin may request to be immediately brought into the Blades of Saint Emma under the rank of Swordsman, if they wish to continue their military service. This can be done by letter, or by a request in person to the Master of Blades or a Commandant.

 

The Swords of Saint Emma will operate out of  the lands of Ladyr, North of the River Petra, alongside the Knights of the Petrine Laurel. Those wishing to enlist may contact the Master of Blades, Matthew Smythe, or one of his Commandants.
