THE COMBAT ACADEMY OF BALIAN

Founded by Viktor Gotwa, circa 132 B.A.

 

The Combat Academy of Balian is a structure within the Regiment of Saint Lothar. The Academy is responsible for the training and education of soldiers, starting from basic combatant instruction for Aspirants, to advanced military tactics and theories for officers. 

 

The  Commander of the Combat Academy is tasked with heading the department. The subordinates of this billet are referred to as Instructors. The Commander's responsibilities include managing Instructors, advancing course material, and

 

The Combat Academy organizes its training into courses. Each course has a set of lessons and tests to ensure that those who finish are fit for the roles expected of them. 

 

The Academy currently offers the following courses:

 

Basic Training

Each soldier has to begin somewhere, and in the Regiment this starts with Basic Training. On average basic training is split in two to three segments each covering a part of essential knowledge that every soldier should know. These segments teach how to follow basic formation commands, culture and history of the Kingdom and the Regiment, combat basics, introduction in small unit battle, regimental structure and basic etiquette. After finishing basic training soldiers are granted the rank of Noumera and welcomed into the regiment as fully capable soldiers.

 

Junior Non-Commissioned Officers Course

Being the first of the advanced courses, the Junior Non-Commissioned Officers course begins with a shorter, more detailed version of things taught in Basic training. Following this the soldiers learn the basics of leadership and how to command soldiers in combat, in addition to this they learn more about the traditions, culture of the regiment and the level of discipline that should be maintained. This course finishes with an examination of knowledge and a test of leadership abilities.

 

Senior Non-Commissioned Officers Course

The final course for Non-Commissioned Officers focuses on leadership in battle and the duty of upholding the traditions of the Regiment. Those soldiers who decide to take this path become leaders of smaller battle formations and paragons of regimental traditions capable of turning the tide against a numerically larger foe and if need be holding ground in hostile territory for prolonged periods of time.

 

Junior Officers Course

The Junior Officers Course is available for all soldiers starting from the rank of Excubitor, after finishing this course soldiers gain the right to be promoted to the officer core starting at the rank of Hypatos. During the course soldiers learn what it means to be an officer, how to handle officer duties and long term planning.

 

Senior Officers Course

The Senior Officers Course works to expand the existing knowledge of officers and prepare them for any situation. This course introduces planning methods, reform planning and military management, any officer who finishes this course is capable not only to fill a role in the Regiment but to also lead it if need be.
