TheDesnkan, Cloud in a Bottle

The concept was originally created by Helwyr who were troubled with mundane ear plugs not working sufficiently enough for hunts that included creatures that made high pitched noises for defense or against the occult with spells that blast loud sound. A bottle of Sound Stopper has the capability of either being consumed or turned into an area of effect version.

Helwyr Bottle O' Silence - T3 ST - Rare

The Elixir is a cloudy white semi-transparent liquid. It looks like it has clouds floating in the elixir and it absorbs sound on its own, it unfortunately cannot be treated into anything. The process was rather simple: Bring Distilled water to a rumbling boil and then deposit the reagents in saving silence for last. Cool and bottle.

Upon consumption the potion will cause the user's ears to experience high pressure. The pressure closes the ear canal causing pure total deafness for 10 emotes or 1 narrative hour outside of combat. The high pressure can be distracting for Mages who are not mastered in their art, causing concentration-based connections to falter unless they are masterful in their magic. While communication may become incredibly more difficult this renders the user immune to sound based effects and magics.

Bottle Of Silence Recipe:

PER BOTTLE:
Base: Distilled Water

Air: Silence x6

Air: Grace x2

Mundane: Peace 2x

Helwyr Cloud O' Silence - T3 ST - Rare

If the alternative recipe is done to create Hewlyr Cloud of Silence then they would create a bottle that looked as if it had several clouds floating around with no liquid inside. This is created by bringing the Distilled water to a boil and adding all of the reagents saving silence for last and then allowing the mixture to boil while its vapors were caught in a bottle clasped above, and then corked and sealed to be airtight.

The airtight bottle then may either have its seal broken to have its effect happen in the area directly around the user or thrown and upon impact and breaking having the effect happen where it lands.

At the place it opens or breaks a semi-transparent fog like cloud will erupt starting at 3x3x3 for the first emote and then 5x5x5 for the second until it vanishes on the 4th emote. Those caught in the fog are unable to hear anything at all rendering sound based attacks and abilities null, including anything that has a verbal component.

Cloud Of Silence Recipe:

PER BOTTLE:
Base: Distilled Water

Air: Silence x6

Air: Grace x2

Mundane: Peace 2x

Added to Stabilize the cloud:

2x Connection

1x Order

Redlines:

  • Sound based attacks, spells and abilities will not work on those who are in the cloud of silence or who are under the effect of a bottle of silence regardless of it being natural or magical.
  • Those in the Cloud of Silence are incapable of using any magic that has verbal components while inside the cloud.
  • This potion cannot be treated onto material.
  • The cloud does not cause any irritation, and it does not interrupt any breathing. It may be dispersed by natural or magical means of causing a large gust of air or with an air purifier.
  • The consumed version lasts 10 emotes. If you use a focus-based magic (i.e void magic for example) you cannot retain your focus unless you are masterful in the art (T5 Void Magic for example).
  • The cloud version lasts 4 emotes and it does not cause the pressure effect on the ears that the consumed version does.
  • These require ST Approval. Must be taught in character by someone who knows the recipe.

I wonder.

1. What if you have mastered one art, but not another, what happens then?

2. How long does it take for it to start working, and will a person manage to use it in time?

I don't think it will work instant when consumed since you mention the person experience a high pressure to their ears and I assume if not used to this it may be confusing or something before you adjust to not hearing anything, having to rely on your vision, touch, and smell. And then when the effect wears off you will have to adjust to hearing once more.
