“Together, We Prosper.”

One day, all that has risen from the land will return to it. From the first steps of a fawn to the staggering death of a deer, from the first flight of a bird to its final fall from its nest in a canopy. I pray I am nowhere near that day, but before my mind fails me the service of that recognition, it is my turn to step off the path I first tread decades ago. It is time for my eldest, my heir, to start her new journey.

Within the last fifty-five years, I integrated myself well into the commitments for my family and the kingdom. For sixteen years, I served in the Duma Hall as Lady Handler. For twenty-eight years, I settled the Aestmarch with my kin; I helped set the stones of Xéniavaros and warded off bandits that lurked in ruins. I kept the people of Koppány in line, especially raising my kin with staunch allegiance and standards. All of it, best and worst, was for them. It all came with a reward: the elevation of Korvacz from barons to viscounts.

I hope that my eldest, Dszamila, continues down my path and shoulders this weight with pride. She may understand, that sometimes, she must trade the world, her wants, and her firsts for the betterment of her kin. These sacrifices are for the better of the kingdom, too. In upholding these improvements, these hard choices, and the tumultuous path, Dszamila does not walk alone. With this knowledge and acceptance between us, I hear by abdicate our vassal’s titles to my eldest daughter.

From here forward, Lady Dszamila Korvacz is THE RIGHT HONORABLE, VISCOUNTESS DSZAMILA KORVACZ, VISCOUNTESS OF KOPPÁNY, BARONESS OF KATABÁNYA, AND THE WOLF OF KOPPÁNY.

Spoiler

This post, while serving as Sifrá's abdication, also serves as my official shelving of the character! It was a pleasure to lead my first noble house in Haense, and a further pleasure to get to know more of the community sincerely on her. I cannot wait to continue creating a story with everyone I meet, but for now, this is the end of her's. Thank you <3

And that was it. After twenty-three years, there was no announcement over dinner, no heart-to-heart before the hearth. It was over and proclaimed through written word.

Dszamila stood, looming over the table within her new room, the missive laid upon its red tablecloth. As her hands pressed upon the surface, she hardly accounted for the difference in decor. Her bedroom was stripped of everything from the former viscountess, to make room for the new one. Her childhood bedroom sat empty, its curtains drawn closed and waiting to collect dust until another heir was born. It was a sacrifice made, no matter how small, and not the first nor the last.

She sacrificed hours of daylight to her studies, to become Viscountess. She sacrificed moments of friendship, to become Viscountess. She sacrificed her greatest bond, to become Viscountess. Now, as Viscountess, Dszamila would have to sacrifice more. It was enough to make her stomach churn as she stood.

Her blood, her sweat, her tears. Her mind, her body. It would all go towards seeing the kin of Korvacz stand taller than before, even if by an inch. No matter how diligently Sifrá taught her daughter, nor how gently she nurtured, Dszamila did not find herself prepared for the weight of that realization. It was only with the words upon ink, scrawling out Dszamila’s name and titles, did the burden set in fully.

However, she would shoulder it regardless. Not for her own pride, not for her own glory. It was for her family. For every man and woman that came before Dszamila, and every man and woman that could come after her. She would do her damndest to make sure they not only survived, but thrived.

The notice of abdication reached her paled grasp soon after its copies made to the winds. No hesitance took her, a lone rose, as she rode out from the woods which she'd often bind herself to. Footfalls fell upon the doorstep of Xéniavaros that night, a dear friend of the Viscountess-Emeritus's making.

Her fingers ensnared a glass of mead, and a congratulations settled within her throat.
"Eym found rest at last, dear beauty."
