Day 7 of asking LOTC staff to ban sexism and sexist roleplay!
Status of yesterday that will be the topic of conversation today:
- Internalized sexism is typically caused when someone surrounds themselves with pervasive sexist messages from others, be it towards themselves or a certain gender identity. This can cause them to internalize or redirect these messages onto others without realizing it.
- The perpetuation of stereotypes is a form of internalized sexism, as women or men can be sexist towards other women and men! Typically, this happens in what can be referred to as the "Not like other GENDER” phenomenon. It is used to disregard and put down those of the same identity as you in order to elevate your own social standing. This is another example of internalized sexism.
- Sexism is systemic oppression of women or men, no matter the perpetrator's gender. There is friendly fire in sexism.
All of this said, there is also rampant bullying and harassment present on the server that often happens behind closed doors without the victim knowing they are the victim. This will be my last day of any pleas, because for me, right now, LOTC is not a safe space. There needs to be changes, and for the time being, stepping back from LOTC is one of my best options until it is in a place where people are willing to make these changes.
Merry Christmas, happy holidays, peace out.

Day 6 of asking LOTC staff to ban sexism and sexist roleplay!
Merry Christmas Eve to those who celebrate it <3 -
Don't think I forgot about you....
Day 4 of asking LOTC staff to ban sexism and sexist roleplay!
No comments or explanations today, read Days 2 and 3 if you are interested in those! Otherwise, a gentle start to the week :) -
Day 3 of asking LOTC staff to ban sexism and sexist roleplay!
If you have not reviewed the points and comments from Day 2, now would be the time to, as I will be addressing some of them. You guys took a lot of the information quite well, so this is going to be a short one today:
- Sexual harassment is rooted in misogyny, which is a specific or more extreme form of sexism. That is not to say that men do not experience this type of harassment as well.
- Sexual harassment is already a bannable offense, and I ask that if you believe you are experiencing it, you should gather the evidence and forward it in a report to admins. It may feel difficult to do or like an invasion of your privacy, but it is a step towards making LOTC a safer environment.
- Sexism affects BOTH genders, and while it is more prevalent for women to be affected, the stereotypes are also pushed onto men. If you do not care or do not see a reason for this rule to be implemented, I ask that you reflect on whether it has not affected you at all, or if you are partaking in the characteristics and behaviors.
Thank you to everyone who made excellent and knowledgeable comments prior. I enjoy everyone's insights and opinions on the matter. And I hope we can all move LOTC in a better direction by being attentive to its untouched issues.-
Very valuable to make clear (as u have done) what sexual harassment is in the context of sexism.
At risk of sounding like the woker, gender & identity can still be explored + engaged with IN ROLEPLAY while including sexism in the “not allowed” list. Adding sexism only makes our server more equitable and safer & probably won’t meaningfully alter roleplay.
There’s some nuance for how this ought to be enforced, duh, but I’d rather leave that thinking to the mods & co (ideally not just a hidden room full of men).

Day 2 of asking LOTC staff to ban sexism and sexist roleplay!
This time, I suppose I will add a little explanation in accordance with the responses the previous day has garnered:
- The topic is quite nuanced, as the discovery of whether something is sexist or not is in the eyes of the individual being affected, versus the person possibly coming off that way. STILL, if someone believes something done or said to them is inherently sexist, they can make a report or a mod-req and have a moderator observe the happenings to be able to determine such with an out-of-party perspective.
- By adding sexism and sexist roleplay as NO GOES to the rules system, it will at least cause people to think upon their words, actions, etc, before going through with them. It is already difficult for most people to determine if, in some cases, the things they say and do are against the rules. Therefore, what makes this equally, if not more important, nuanced topic not deserving or worth TRYING to add to the rules of the server.
- There have been prior coalitions, rebellions, etc, in an attempt to get women personas equal rights to those of men personas within roleplay on the server. But for those things to be backtracked by singular forum posts shows the regression of this sort of stuff within our present-day society, on AND OFF the server.
- While "limitation roleplay" can be seen as story-telling, rich development, etc, it is increasingly difficult with the mass powers of the present day on the server. One can recall the forum post about the laws of queer marriage from just over a year ago (if I can remember correctly). I can only imagine the depth, detail, and roleplay that went into that for the singular power on the server (the Church) to — and I paraphrase this — say no.
- This type of roleplay (sexism/sexist) can be deeply uncomfortable for individuals on the server, and at some points, they may even consider it harassment. You may think that it is amusing that your character behaves in such a way. But, in some sense, it can be extremely demoralizing, especially to the younger side of the server or individuals who are becoming comfortable with their gender, and they may even take it as an example.
- Lastly, it is a medieval FANTASY server. While sexism has always been somewhat present in real history, it wasn't until resource defense and property inheritance were tied to male strength that they started to dominate societies. There is nothing that stops women personas from protecting their resources and inheriting their properties on LOTC (as saying so suggests powergaming), so one might wonder where LOTC sexism stemmed from in the first place?

I don’t particularly care about the rule. I’m fine with the roleplay, and if sexism was removed as a concept, I’d be fine with changing my roleplay to adapt to the rules. I don’t believe it is as bad or as prevalent as it used to be, so if it requires addressing, that’s something for the admins to decide I suppose.
Being sexually harassed isn’t sexism btw that’s called being sexually harassed

no beef to anyone here, but just to clarify. sexual harassment and sexism can be, but dont have to be, mutually exclusive and whether people want to admit it or not, they are often intertwined to a level were you would only be splitting hairs in defense of the harasser by attempting to separate the two - it is possible for the situation to be both, and for the odds of it occurring to be one rooted in bias or personal belief. there's no gender to sexual harassment, but by golly gee if you're a person with a functional sense of reason and an eye for the reality of the world outside of the server, the rates are typically very much skewed to where women and feminine-percieved folks are statistically more likely to face this as an issue as well.
for example, you cannot convince me that one particularly bad experience i had early in the server occurred solely because i was dealing with a problem player and not one who saw my female character and tried to use that factor to be a creep IRP.It's a nuance that likely can't be solved with a simple rule, but certainly something we ought to strive to be more attentive in combating generally. this is the exact reasoning we give when we ask maybe the racism and genocide roleplay be turned down a notch since it seems to become ever more constant with total ignorance of players who take it too far, or that heavy emphasis on homophobia be held back. bad faith actors and rulebreakers deserve to be punished as per rules, but it's also a collective responsibility as a community to not let the quieter, sutbler abuses go ignored just because the harm doesn't seem quantifiable to those unaffected.
