The islands on the south and the people of the sea

"O que vale na vida não é o ponto de partida e sim a caminhada. Caminhando e semeando, no fim, terás o que colher.."
A common saying among the islanders

Origins and Homeland

Far beyond the known shores of Aevos lies a distant yet paradisiacal archipelago, a tropical chain of numerous islands surrounded by emerald seas and golden beaches. With massive plains and thriving coral reefs, the islands form a world of their own, untouched, warm, and full of life. Here, colorful settlements are built along the coastline, where the people live in harmony with the land, the sea, and one another.

Life on the archipelago is rhythmic, shaped by the tides and the pulse of music and tradition. Here, stone roads lead through vibrant and colorful towns with a unique style, terracotta roofs, pastel walls, sweeping verandas, and courtyards full of flowering trees. Laughter echoes through open windows, and the scent of roasted spices lingers in the air.Every village feels like a poem made of stone and wind.

Cultural Identity

The culture of the Navegantes is a rich fusion of many tribes and groups from the past, reimagined through a lens of unity and progress. While it draws inspiration from the past, the current society firmly rejects the darker shadows of history. The people live with compassion, mutual respect, and a deep sense of family. Most having different sorts of religions that despite its differences all pray for one thing, the peace of one’s soul and spirit

The music is the soul of the people, present in every corner of life, from morning work songs to lullabies being hummed during the sunset, from ceremonial dances to spontaneous gatherings under palm trees. Instruments include pandeiros, hand-carved drums, cavaquinhos flutes, and wooden marimbas. Songs are often improvised, passed down orally, and performed for a variety of reasons. Everyone sings, everyone plays, our songs are not a profession but a language of the people. It is how they mourn, how they rejoice, and how they remember.

Dance is just as vital, a celebration of spirit and body. Over the years many different kinds of dances have been developed throughout the islands, some meant to remember those who have come before us, others meant to celebrate the joy of a certain occasion. In some, movements are fluid yet percussive, with quick footwork that mirrors the beat of the drums and hips that sway like the tides. In others dances, the people twirl in brightly colored cloths or parasols, leap from toe to toe in flurries of energy. Some dances are sharp and acrobatic, with jumps and spins that dazzle the eye, while others are low and circular, feet tapping like raindrops on sunbaked stone. Each dance is both memory and invention, shaped by the rhythm of the archipelago’s waves and the fire in its people's hearts.

The Cuisine is by far one of the most impressive parts of the culture, each group and family developed their own dishes using the local ingredients found in each environment. Every single one of them contains a variety of flavors that’d make one feel as if they were in heaven itself. The scents and tastes go from the most spicy foods to the most fresh and sweet ones.

Traditions and Celebrations

Life in the islands is amazing when you greet it with open arms. Throughout the year all of its inhabitants gather at the central island to celebrate two major festivals:

  • O Carnaval: rather than a simple festivity, it is the very own visible soul of the archipelago. For days, the streets become rivers of sound and color. From the largest coastal town to the smallest cliffside village, every island stirs to life with pounding drums, vivid fabrics, and feet that dance without rest.

Its origins trace back to ancient seasonal rites of renewal, once marked by music and mock battles with painted masks and body paint. Over time, these blended with the celebratory customs of settlers who brought their own traditions of parades, costumes, and revelry. What emerged was a uniquely island-born expression — both jubilant and reflective, sacred and chaotic, loud and deeply personal.

  • O Festival dos Vagalumes: Bonfires light the shores as the colorful pennants color the skies above, being gently moved by the breeze that comes from the sea. At the same time traditional attire fills the plazas. People gather to share food, tell stories, and dance beneath the stars. It’s a celebration of harvest, family, and union, meant to unite the people and to celebrate their history.

Architecture and Lifestyle

Homes are built with the climate in mind, high ceilings, whitewashed walls, wooden shutters, and wide patios that welcome the ocean breeze. Markets overflow with tropical fruits, handwoven textiles, and vibrant pottery. Education and arts are cherished, passed down through music, oral tradition, and craftsmanship.

The people are fishermen, poets, traders, architects and so much more. But more than that… They are storytellers. Every family carries a history, their own unique traditions and customs. Each generation adds something to this beautiful narrative.

Fashion

Clothing in the archipelago is tailored for the warmth of the tropics. Linen, cotton, and silk are favored, often dyed in both earthy and vibrant tones or decorated with hand-stitched embroidery and coastal motifs. Men often wear loose shirts and sashes, while women wear flowing dresses or skirts, adorned with jewelry made from both gemstones and foraged materials. Comfort and self-expression go hand in hand with pride and heritage.

História

A Era do Mar (0 - 322)

Centuries ago, when men had already long inhabited this world,a small group of people decided to sail away to the mainland, hoping to find a place they could truly call a home, and through that search they found a beautiful archipelago composed of numerous islands. The islands of Navegantes became home to that group of explorers, sailors, and dreamers. They came with little more than what they could carry on their vessels, guided by the stars and the steady pull of unseen tides. Over decades, they anchored their lives into the fertile soil, raising villages of timber and stone along the coves and hills. Farming blossomed in the rich volcanic earth, and the first crops of local plants and fruits sustained these communities.

Gradually, the settlers divided themselves among different groups, each growing around a ruling family who acted as stewards of their people's welfare. Modest cities emerged, bustling with trade, music, and the aromas of new traditions. Among them, the capital, a wide and vibrant port town known as Bahia de Navegantes, rose to prominence. It was there, in its sheltered bay, that the archipelago first found its beating heart, a crossroads where sea and people met.

This was a time of discovery and wonder, where the spirit of cooperation outweighed ambition, and the people learned not only to survive, but to flourish amidst the endless blue horizon.

O Crepúsculo (322 - 352)

With prosperity came pride, and with pride, and then jealousy. As the families of each island grew in wealth and influence, so too did tensions mount. Rivals disputed over trade routes, sea borders, and ancient promises made generations before. Old friendships frayed, and soon the portuary city of Navegantes, once a symbol of unity between the islands, became the bloody stage, something that would last for years to come.

What followed was a long and bitter war between the isles, a conflict fought not only with blade and flame but also through alliances and betrayals. The once festive shores were scarred by fire and grief, as each family struggled either to resist domination or seize it for themselves. The seas that had once united them, were now tainted by the blood of the fallen, and the melodies of life were suddenly silenced by the clash of ambition.

Months turned to years, and later… decades, and even as the tides wore down the stones, the people endured. Many left the archipelago during that time, hoping to avoid the consequences such events brought onto their people. The memories of their brotherhood were not forgotten, merely buried deep beneath the debris of war, waiting for a voice to call them back.

A Alvorada (332 - present)

At the height of despair, from among the divided islands and the ashes of the devastated towns, rose a woman whose wisdom and strength would come to reshape their fate. At the height of the war, she’d raise her sword, her voice echoing throughout the land along with the weight of her words. Each second, her cause to unite the islands only grew with more people and passion, her ideals lasted for generations to come, carved in stone itself so they’d never be forgotten.

Through her efforts, the ruling families were brought together under a new pact, each deciding to put an end to the lifelong disputes against each other, vowing to unite the islands and its people once again, bringing them a new era of peace: A Alvorada, or as people say in common, the sunrise.

Ever since that day the archipelago entered an era of rebuilding, cities were restored, markets reopened, and the spirit of music and dance returned to the streets.Step by step, the scars of war were turned into the foundations of a new future. Nowadays the people honor both their struggles and their triumphs, carrying forward the living memory of their long journey towards unity and peace.

Hello lovely readers, i want to clarify how this is supposed to work as an introduction post to a polycultural group, each of these families will most likely have their own dedicated posts soon so i'm looking forward to see how this project will turn out.

Huge thanks to @Navigator for formatting this post, @Aeus for having helped me understand a bit more about the Galician culture and his group, @yuiilindaos and @LiliumDell  for being the proof readers.
