DEFENSE OF THE CANONIST FAITH

Lothaire of Lemonhill lights a wax candle as the sun falls low over his monastery home. "Hmm, hm, hm," the monk hums as he holds the Drusco priest's latest writing up to the light to read. "Say, brother, have a read of this," says he to a fellow monastic, who draws near. "These are dark times for our Faith. I pray for Father Drusco and Bishop Josefina, and many others, and I pray for the Holy Father too. I pray, as well, that this all may reach its conclusion soon and in peace," Lothaire says. He adds quietly, "Oh, I do hope my prayers are answered," as his gaze leaves the window and turns to contemplate the gathering darkness.

Wheresoever Theodorus Manfred found himself, he came upon a copy of the missive, and thus spoke - as was his wont - to those about him: "'If men shall name the Father Drusco some scheming schismatic, then it is only for their own prior schism. What can the burning of a relic, and decree of reversion to some ancient church be, otherwise? What can the questioning of the Enlightened Truth of the Word of God as delivered by His High Exalted be, save schism? What can the refutation of the venerated, beatified, canonized, and the Aegisian High Pontificate heretofore be, save schism? If any man shall be remembered as a schismatic, 'tis not I, 'tis not Ludiger, 'tis not Drusco." And so, in what idle time he had, the priest turned to writing.

"Father Drusco is always quite well written," Aliénor nodded along as she read, commenting this quietly to herself as she reviewed the open letter. "Let us hope that his efforts are not in vain.."
