Lore In Game

Started by a small group of dedicated druids in Norland, this circle is dedicated to the cycle of rebirth, and the acceptance of change. The Circle Of Ashen Souls is happy to be called upon for handling larger matters; however, daily life for these druids is focused in Norland. Those of this circle are tasked with understanding and promoting the rebirth of life and death. From ashes, life is born, and from life, ashes fall. Those present cannot start rebirth, but will rather guide the aftermath and help those who have been reborn.

Out Of Character Core Overview

The Circle Of Ashen Souls is a group of druids dedicated to the care, rebirth, and prosperity of young druids, and by extension Norland as a whole. Acting partly like a subsection of the Norlandic people, the circle can be called upon by the Norlandic government in times of need, or to handle problems surrounding fae influences and threats to the natural world. While in the circle, druids are intended to grow and change themself for better or worse.
Due to the close ties with the clergy of The Red Faith, attending their ceremonies, revering their flames and following their scriptures is an option for all parts of the circle. To work with the people of the Red Faith to combat the common enemy however is a must. These orders are meant to function together as allies and equals, no one group holding complete power over the other.

Internal Structure

This circle follows a similar structure to others, with members and archdruids alike. Archdruids hold importance in the circle, but are not singular pillars of authority. Rather, they are guides and teachers for those hoping to join. A leader of the circle can be elected, but only to function as a diplomat between the Norlandic government and the members of the circle. They hold no power other than that of a communication bridge.

There are three ranks to those of the circle.

  • Vánsvanni (Dedicants) “Hopeful of the Vanir”

These druids are usually new to the art and are just trying to find their footing. They are to be helped and guided by all members of the circle. They are not lesser than any others, but rather treated as flames to be nurtured for rebirth into a proper druid.
(Non druids that are friends of the circle can be assigned this title by an Infernos)

  • Svidrúnari (Adept Druids) “Fire-Rune Druid”

These druids are more adept. Not perfect or ancient perhaps, but skilled and knowledgeable nonetheless. They often are trained to be guides and to be able to answer the questions of the masses. They often hold great importance as they are the start of a rebirth, their journey to such the last step before becoming an Infernos.

  • Askendrbodi (Archdruids) “Ash-Reborn One”

An Askendrbodi is a master druid of the circle, and oftentimes a leader or organizer for the circle. They use their mastery to guide others to prosperity and change, being the ones who oversee those of the circle. To become such, one must undergo a rite of rebirth before the presence of the circle. This rite, while more symbolic in nature, can only be performed with the approval of both circle leaders, and Red Faith leadership. Someone who shows no growth or signs of rebirth cannot become an Infernos.

Values

  • To promote the wellbeing of nature as a whole, and aid interactions between the natural world and descendants.
  • To work hand in hand with The Red Faith as Allies, apart in faith though respectful in union.
  • To aid the descendants of Norland, acting as advisors, guides and protectors on Druidic and Fae matters.
  • To promote the cycle of rebirth and constantly try to change oneself.
  • To remain true to oneself, and their inner conflicts.
  • To see the long dark as the imbalance all druids combat and purify that which is corrupted.
  • To intervene in the defense of Norland against threats, following the Stand Against the Long Dark tenet of the Red Faith

Restrictions

  • Druids of the Circle Of Ashen Souls cannot commune with the Ashwood tree under any circumstances.
  • Druids cannot act on behalf of Norland, nor the Red Faith as a whole. The circle works in tandem with the people of Norland, not as a definitive and authoritative part of it.
  • Druidic magic that could harm the Ashwood tree may never be used on the tree by any druid of the circle. While mundane harm can be tolerated if it is an approved caretaker who means to tend to the health of the tree (Pruning, cleaning rot, ect), magical means of affliction (Ungrowing, Decay, ect) cannot be performed. Any druid that attempts is to be held accountable publicly, and their fate decided. Most often, these offences will at least end in removal from the circle.

The Creed Of Ashen Souls

The druids of The Circle Of Ashen Souls closely follow The Creed Of Ashen Souls, which primarily focuses on rebirth of life, and rebirth of identity. Those who follow these creeds are advised to accept their faults, and work towards improving themselves to be rebirthed as someone greater than their past. In praise and worship to their god of choice, be it aspect or All-Father, those who follow this creed are expected to follow such tenets:

I) Change Guides The Hands Of Fate, Flowing Like A River, Carving A Path In The World
A druid cannot stop a person undergoing a great change, for doing so would deny them their fate.

II) We Are Not Victims To Change, But Rather Its Guide

A druid can interfere with how someone changes. Should someone be chosen for evil, a druid can instead promote a different path of equal change to redirect this possible tragedy.

III) Humility Begets Betterment

A druid cannot think themself perfect, or infallible, for this arrogance will only result in a change for the worse. A follower of this creed must always endeavor to remain humble and accept their flaws as room to improve.

IV) Rebirth Deserves Respect, For Those Willing To Change In Full Hold Truth To Themself

Those among the circle shall strive to be reborn, multiple times over if needed. Treelords and Epiphytes are highly regarded by the followers for their acceptance to change and be reborn.

V) The Past Does Not Define The Future, Nor Should It Be Forgotten.
Should someone be reborn from evil, they are to be treated with the same respect as any other. For to rise from darkness creates the brightest of lights. This does not mean the past should be forgotten, but it should not hold a bearing on the present.
