MAYORAL ELECTION RESULTS

FOR THE FREE AND IMPERIAL 

CITY OF RITTERSBERG

✠ HEED, LEAL SONS OF HOREN; 

 

We bring you news of the 641 AA Mayoral Election, concluded by a near-unanimous vote of the citizenry. We extend our congratulations to the Mayor-Elect and remind him of his duty to compose the City Council, as delegated by His Imperial Majesty’s Privy Council, without delay.

 

His term shall endure from the day of his oathing until Horen’s Calling, four saints’ weeks hence, at which time a new electoral cycle shall commence (March 18, 2026). Until he is oathed, he shall be styled Lord Mayor-Elect and shall begin the preparations attendant to his office. The incumbent may be re-elected only once.

 

The oathing shall take place before all gathered citizens in the city square and shall be administered unto the Mayor-Elect by the Imperial Reeve, Jerome Halcourt af Brasca (Wednesday at 6:30 pm EST).

RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE LORD MAYOR

 

Per the City Charter, the Lord Mayor of the City of Rittersberg is elected by popular vote and serves a four-year term. This edict delegates to the Mayor of Rittersberg the following competencies in the Municipal Government of the City of Rittersberg;

 

✠ The Mayor is bestowed the responsibility to appoint (or recommend appointments, in certain cases) municipal officials for purposes of delegation of duties, able to forcefully remove (or recommend removal) in case of inefficiency.

 

✠ The Mayor is afforded the competency to propose, draft, and present laws before the Privy Council as regards the governance of the Imperial City.

 

✠ The Mayor is granted the authority to banish or evict lowborn criminals from the City of Rittersberg, with consultation to the Lord Marshal or Imperial Archchancellor, and not without due process.

 

✠ The Mayor has been instructed to budget, supply material and oversee construction and demolition in the City of Rittersberg, under guidance of the Privy Council.

 

✠ The Mayor is responsible in representing the will of the citizens of Rittersberg, and of the duties and doings of any subordinates in their employ.

Giorgia read over the missive, skimming through until she found who had won the election. Upon seeing Sebastien’s name, a wide and happy grin lit her face. She would have to congratulate him next she saw him!

Sebastien stood at the edge of the upper steps, looking out over the Lower Square where the city moved in its usual rhythm- vendors calling, children weaving through the crowds, merchants banners stirring in the breeze. Somewhere in that living, breathing expanse, the decision had been made.

 

He had been chosen- by the people. A quiet smile settled on his face, not proud but certain, as his gaze swept across the rooftops and stone. “Well,” he murmured to himself, hands clasped behind his back, “Time to get to work..”
