DEPOSITION OF SIR OTTOMAR

Let it be known to all men of honour and chivalry within the bounds of the Archducal lands, that under the Orderly Rites of Knighthood, lawful challenge has been issued within the Knightly Circle of the White Hart. On the twelfth day of Godfrey's Triumph in the year of our Lord 2068, before His Serene Highness the Prince of Alstion and the assembled retinues of the Order of the White Hart, Sir Everett the Unbroken did step forth and demand recognition.

 

In clear voice and without tremor did the Knight proclaim his will;

 

My Prince, my Lord Commander, my brothers of the Knightly Circle,

 

Not for spite nor vainglory do I make this declaration. There is no ill-will in my intent, and no poison laced in my words. 

 

My only meaning is to upkeep the sanctity of our Order.

 

With due reverence to his years and gratitude for his tutelage, I do deem the Commander to have fallen short of the exemplary standard required of one who holds the highest of seats within the Knightly Circle.

 

This is no accusation nor condemnation to dishonour. It is merely the sorrowful recognition that time spares no man, especially those who live their days by the sword. My Lord’s illness, though discreet, cannot remain in the shadows any longer.

 

Therefore, in accordance with the traditions of our ancestors, I do demand the right to issue a formal challenge to my Lord, as only the finest of not merely soul, but also of body, are fit to serve in the Prince’s Finest.

 

Let Sir Ottomar defend his seat. Let steel and GOD discern the truth.

 

And so did the Prince of Alstion and the Lord Commander of the White Hart agree. Come the autumn winds of Horen’s Calling, The Knight Commander Sir Ottomar Alstreim will meet Sir Everett at the field of battle. In equal harness and with blades unpoisoned, the two Knights are to make battle until one remains. Should the Commander prevail, his seat shall be reaffirmed. Should the Knight prevail, he shall be summoned forthwith before the Prince of Alstion to assume the vacated seat, as law and custom command.

 

Let GOD bring victory to the righteous.
