The Fall of Kal'Baraz   ⸍ᚽᛁ ᛙ⸝⸌⸌ ˎᛙ ᛍ⸝⸌×ި⸝◟⸝╵ The Siege The monstrous Five Realms marched upon the Grand Kingdom of Urguan. The Empire of Man. The Kingdom of Norland. The Kingdom of Idunia. The Principality of Caurost. The Shugonate of Kurai-Kuni. Five banners united under a single command: the annihilation of the dwarven people. Emperor Hadrian, a man who had called for the death of his own daughter and ruled not through loyalty but through the consumption of those around him, had taken the nations of the world to his ambition. Such ambition would not be satisfied until the mountains themselves were broken open and the dwedmar within were put to the sword. The dwarves of Urguan refused to kneel even when faced with demise. They had always refused, as it was meant to be by Yemekar’s balance. What was new was the scale of what refused them in return. The outer fortress of Kaz'Ithrundyr had already fallen. In the Battle of the Golden Forest, the dwarves had carved seventy thousand imperial soldiers from the earth with artillery alone. They routed the combined armies of five kingdoms from a single position. But overestimation of the enemy's competence had consumed their ammunition before the last trebuchets could be destroyed, and a breach was made. The golden forests were lost. The dwedmar fell back to Kal'Baraz, the mountain itself, the last stronghold of the Grand Kingdom. Peace was attempted. Hekkaes Goldhand met with Emperor Hadrian to negotiate. The Emperor offered terms of enslavement, not peace. He would not listen to reason. He wanted only to conquer. And so the siege of Kal'Baraz began. The Grand Marshal delivered his assessment plainly of the coming battles: the outer works were gone, collapsing in upon themselves by the earth-shaking effect of the massive army. The field was only what remained, and such a battle could not be held against a force that outnumbered them twenty to one. With the dwarves trapped and waiting to spring their traps, the empire formed a cunning plan. The Empire did not breach Kal'Baraz through superior arms alone; it had been the cunning architects of Urguan who had defected to the enemy, who had betrayed the dwarves themselves. The might of the five realms, with the assistance of the Dwarven defectors, knowing the layout of the mountain, who had now been granted pardons, had been too much for the Mountain to withstand. Under the relentless barrage of imperial trebuchets, the Mountain began to crumble. The stone that had held for generations gave way to the empire's miners. The dwarves and their allies prepared themselves for the breach, knowing it would come, knowing there was nothing left between themselves and the end of the war.   The walls blew open. The Grand Kingdom of Urguan fell, for there was no defense stronger than the mountain itself, and even that had failed. What followed was not conquest. The Shugonate of Kurai-Kuni issued its directive through the storm-crowned capital of Yorumachi: the dwarven fleet, attempting to run the blockade of the Southern Straits, was to be fired upon with extreme prejudice. "Let the treasures of Urguan be scattered across the seafloor of the Skull Sea," the Shugo proclaimed. "Those that flee shall suffer the indignity of wounds upon their back or a cannonball ripping through their chest." The empire did not come to rule the dwarves; It came to end them. The Ending Oath In the final hours, as the people evacuated through the tunnels beneath Kal'Baraz, Grand King Ulfar of the Elder Clan Starbreaker delivered his last address. He thanked his kin for standing against oppression despite the odds. He spoke of the golden age they had been building, how the radiant sun of Armakak had touched the skin of their faces just as the door slammed shut. He named the clans who answered the call: Elder Clans Frostbeard, Ireheart, Grandaxe, Starbreaker, Irongut, and Goldhand. Clans Grimgold, Silverbraid, Doomforged, and Gemeye. And Gimble, the only Jewelbeard to answer. He named the Clan Lords: Rhorgvar of the Frostbeards, Bostone of the Grimgolds, Gallio of the Grandaxes, Yrun of the Irehearts, and Grelu of the Silverbraids. He named his commanders. He named his captains. He named the soldiers, the Khazadmar, the Elgus, the Uruks, the Halflings, and the Musin, who gave everything when faced with destruction. And then he dissolved the Grand Kingdom of Urguan. "Now the Grand Kingdom of Urguan is no more, and I am no longer your Grand King." But the dissolution was not a surrender. In the same breath, Ulfar proclaimed the Ending Oath, a grudge carved not in a book but into the walls of Urguan itself, etched in stone and iron for all to see. The Line of Horen is grudged for their sin against Urguan. The cost of this grudge is their total annihilation. No code. No regulation. No law would bind the dwarves any longer. The restraints were released. Every realm that had marched with Hadrian was marked. Every realm that had stood by and done nothing while tyranny grew was marked the same. Ignorance would not equate innocence. Spineless cowardice would be remembered the same as open hostility. The furnace was not lit by dwarven hands. But the empire had stepped inside it willingly, and the dwarves were the fire. Narvak oz Khazadmar. Narvak oz da Brathmordakin. Narvak oz Urguan. Those Who Walked The Grand King's final command was simple: Spread out into the world and find safety in the mountains. The survivors obeyed, not as a single body, but as fragments. The Grand Kingdom was dissolved. There was no central authority, no rallying point, no kingdom left to return to. Clans scattered. Families broke apart at crossroads, choosing different valleys, different passes, different directions. Some sought refuge with distant kin. Some sought obscurity among other races. Some simply walked until the mountains swallowed them. Among these fragments were a company of dwedmar: golemancers, engineers, alchemists, and artificers who had served in the laboratories and workshops of Kal'Baraz. They were not warriors by primary trade, though the siege had made fighters of them all. They were the hands that had built the artillery, mixed the alchemical charges, and maintained the golemantic systems that gave Urguan its eyes upon the battlefield. When the mountain fell, they carried out what they could: tools, formulae, the knowledge in their heads that no empire could confiscate. They did not scatter as the others did. Whether by design or by the slow magnetism of shared purpose, they found one another in the weeks and months that followed the fall. In mountain passes, in unmapped cave systems, in the spaces between imperial patrols that scoured the countryside for fleeing dwedmar. The Shugonate's navy hunted the seas. The empire's soldiers hunted the roads. The survivors moved through neither, choosing instead the deep places where no army would bother to look. For a few years, they wandered. They traveled light. They left no permanent marks upon the stone. They communicated between scattered bands through methods adapted from geological survey protocols, the coded language of engineers repurposed for the coded life of fugitives. They called themselves Ogradyr, which translates roughly as [REDACTED]. They were dying. Not from blades. The empire had bigger concerns than chasing a handful of engineers through the mountains. They were dying from the slower death of purposelessness. Children were few. Knowledge was hemorrhaging as elder artisans passed without adequate time to train successors. An engineer who cannot build is not an engineer. An alchemist without a crucible is just a refugee with a good memory. Refugees, given enough time, become nothing at all. They needed more than safety itself, but a place of purpose, a home to build as the tenets of Anbella demonstrate. Rakhâs Gamil The region the ancient Goldhands had called Karaagnar'korazhufmar, the Volcanic Sky Waterfalls, lay at the far edge of the known world. A broad volcanic plateau teeming with life, from the tall water spouts of geysers to the occasional rumbles of the earth beneath one's feet and the abundant fauna that creeps the land.  The wanderers knew of Rakhâs Gamil only through the faintest threads of dwarven history. Old Goldhand trade records. Fragmentary accounts of a minor business subsidiary called the Saffron Citrine Company that had fled the War of the Beards, sailing five steamships into the unknown in non-violent protest of the inter-dwarven conflict. Thirty dwedmar employees, their few accompanying kinsmen,n and dwedlon, and supplies to begin anew somewhere. They never returned. They never sent word. The records ended there.  What the wanderers found upon arrival exceeded every expectation. Amidst what seemed at first glance to be uncharted land, the wanderers discovered worn machinery and the scattered husks of decrepit shelters in the cliffsides that people had once called homes. The Saffron Citrine Company had not merely survived its exile. Under the leadership of their chairman, Bromli Aurumvein, they had harnessed the geyser power beneath them through their knowledge of steam engineering and rebuilt their lives, forming a hold independent of both Urguan and Kaz'Ulrah. They had been isolationist, trading wares with other populations of the continent only for gold. Their smelting and mining output had grown to levels that surpassed their previous lives. Innovation, progress, and entrepreneurial spirit had inhabited these lands. And then something had destroyed them. A cataclysm, the nature of which the wanderers could only guess at from the wreckage left behind. Whatever had happened, it had been violent and total. The dwarves of the Saffron Citrine Company were gone. What remained was their ancient machinery, a few automations that had survived the destruction, and the strange red and green flashing lights that periodically sparked in the night sky over the golden valley, their origins unknown. The machinery was the thing that mattered. The Saffron Citrine Company had built beyond what anyone back in Urguan would have expected of thirty dwedmar and their kin. The technology they left behind spoke of knowledge and capability that outpaced what a small splinter company should have been able to achieve on its own. How they had advanced so far, and so fast, was a question the wanderers could not yet answer. But the machinery was here. It was real. For people trained in alchemy and engineering, it was a reason to stop walking. The Decision The argument against settling was the same argument that had kept the wanderers alive: fixed positions can be found and broken. Kal'Baraz had been the mightiest city in the Azuras, and it had fallen. What guarantee could a volcanic ruin offer that the Mountain itself could not? The argument for settling was simpler, and it won because it was true: the wanderers were already dead if they kept walking. Their numbers were declining. Their knowledge was eroding. The disciplines of alchemy and engineering that defined them as a people, the very skills that had built the artillery that held five kingdoms at bay, were being lost one funeral at a time. Without workshops, without forges, without laboratories, they were not engineers. They were ghosts carrying toolkits. Rakhâs Gamil offered what no other place had: concealment behind terrain that punished intrusion, geothermal energy in abundance, and machinery left behind by dwedmar, who had already proven it could be harnessed. The ruins of the Saffron Citrine Company were not just a shelter. They were a workshop waiting to be reopened, a purpose waiting to be taken up. The wanderers were alchemists and engineers. This is what they were trained to do. The decision was made. The company of Dwedmar would stay. They would establish a secret hold among the ruins, hidden from the empire by the land's hostility. They would study the machinery. They would learn what the Saffron Citrine Company had built and how it had been built. They would restore what could be restored, and from that foundation, they would build a future for the dwarven people. The Grand Kingdom of Urguan is dissolved. The Obsidian Throne sits empty. The clans are scattered across the world, hunted, exiled, and diminished. However, in the golden valley of Rakhâs Gamil, a company of dwedmar made their choice. The world above does not know they are there, and so Grimdugan shields them from prying eyes.

Government Structure Explanation:

 

 

The Ogrdayr follow the structure provided in the post; it is generally loose, and all are equal within the settlement, no dwarf higher than another.

 

Councilship: The group is directed by a council of Lord Ogradyr, which sets objectives and goals for the whole to focus on.

The Ogradyr, in its first iteration, placed greater emphasis on Golemancy due to its cultural and religious importance to the dwarves; however, over time, more knowledge was gathered, including Engineering skills through clockwork construction, smoggers, and alchemy.

While the Ogradyr are, at their core, a dwarven society, other races can be found within its order, often having speakers or representatives in the Councilship. In the end, Ogradhad cares not for the length of your beard or the shape of your ears, only the integrity of your mind.

How does this realm/settlement offer a unique niche not already found in an existing group on the server?:

 

After the fall of Kal’Baraz and the Grand Kingdom of Urguan, the racial hub for the dwarven race, this group has set its sights on lands not controlled by the Empire. The idea of building up a place where remnant dwarves can live and hide to avoid the mass race genocide sentenced by the Empire, which controls every realm. 

 

The tragedy aside, the group aims to mold into a religious organization of Ogradhad, named the Ogradyr. Devoted to the insight and recovery of ancient knowledge to find a way back home, to Kal’Baraz.

And most attempts to find a stable home or refuge are becoming harder with the RP events of Kuri Kuni attacking Civilians and Hadrian's orders for KOS dwarves. I have not considered asking them for housing, as for the other lands, most fall loyal to the empire as of now.

On an escape from the Kill on sight order, it appears evident in the orders that Hadrian is decreeing young dwarves to flee the war, to explore for new adventures and old history. Drawn to the awakening Ancient dwarven machinery near the Azdrazi. The dwarves, having a grudge with the Azdrazi, might be interested in relearning this technology while using the fort they are currently in to reside for the time being, with the possibility of burying the hatchet or finishing the grudges once and for all.

A core part of dwarven society has always been, in a way, innovative, involving golemancy, alchemy, and engineering; they are naturally drawn to places that could enhance such ambitions.

This specific group has set its sights on the ancient dwarven machinery within the geyser lands, intent on migrating there and building an Engineering Hold to investigate, research, and resurrect the lost knowledge of the machines, as well as see what the natural area surrounding them may assist in their smithing, forging, and natural defenses.

Along these roads, dwarves will relearn and re-explore what makes dwarven culture so important and what it means to be a dwarf.

Have you ever run a realm/settlement on LotC before and what experience does your group have with leadership within roleplay communities?

 

Personally, I have little to no Leadership within roleplay besides being an Artillery Captain during war and a taking charge during events, as the STs I've interacted with have seen in my roleplay and the CTs have seen with my leadership with the younger dwarf community, managing to help ensure their stay on the server by finding them at least temporary housing in Norland.

 

I was in the US Navy as a leader, doing something similar, before joining LOTC IRL vs IRP.

 

The group I will have underneath me will be my biggest support group, made up of older LOTC players such as ChumChum, Cheezeboi (if available), Epicthan, PanicZelot, and others who have run vassals, with assistance from older dwarves as well, should I need more. With many others under my ship and future leadership who have also played leadership roles in other ways, as vassals. The Government set up specifically to utilize these aids around me

(Clan Fathers, Elder Dwarves, High Perceptor, and other roles within the dwarven community are kept for more developed players and characters)

Once signatures and mina are collected, and the subjugation period is over for Urguan's capital (4/21) the application will be reviewed by the Implementation Team.
