Β

TO MY LOYAL FRIENDS AND FAMILY,

Β

TIME SEEMS TO PASS QUICKLY WHEN YOU ARE NOT SURROUNDING BY THOSE YOU CONSIDER DEAR, and it has become abundantly clear how much I have come to miss you all. Although I am still some years from my graduation, I am happy to report that my time spent in Novo Horos and the Collegium has been beneficial. The food and styles - even the air feels foreign to me, though that only means I am experiencing new things as I had set off to do. One thing I am happy to share with you all is a pamphlet that is similar to what we have within the Empire of Azuras, and I was even mentioned by name! I will write to you all again soon, and I will be counting down the days until my return.Β

Β

Β

[!] Sent along with the letter, a crate of pamphlets would join for all Caerine’s friends and family to divulge in.

MY ESTEEMED CIRCLE,Β

I find myself once again in your company, and what a delight that is, for the world of society has hardly been quiet in my brief absence since my last issue. The halls of the Imperial Court continue to shimmer with color, conversation, and the occasional misstep, each deserving in its own way, a careful and considerate eye. As ever, I offer these pages not as judgment, but as gentle guidance, that we might all move a touch more gracefully, dress a touch more boldly, and navigate our shared stage with quiet confidence amongst the metropolis of Novo Horos.

THE MODE OF THE HOUR

On Seasonal Color & Sensible Indulgence

With the turning of the season comes, the quiet question of what ought, and ought not, to follow us into the summer months. While one may be tempted to abandon all remnants of winter’s luxury, I would gently suggest that restraint, rather than absence, is the truest mark of refinement. Furs, though undeniably elegant, should be worn with the lightest of hands in warmer weather, reserved for the faintest trim upon a glove or the edge of a sleeve, and only in shades of white or soft grey, lest one appear entirely out of season.

In contrast, I have observed with great approval the continued use of black as a trimming against brighter palettes. When paired with the vivid hues so beloved in Novo Horos, it lends both structure and sophistication, tempering brilliance without diminishing it. A ribbon, a hem, or a carefully placed accent of black may do more to elevate a gown than an excess of ornament ever could.

And now, a small consideration I leave to you, my readers: should lavender be regarded as its own color? Purple, as we well know, has long been reserved for those of the highest rank, its richness tied to both tradition and authority. Yet lavender is softer, more delicate and seems to exist just beyond that boundary. Does it trespass, or does it belong to us all? I leave the matter in your hands, and suspect I shall hear no shortage of opinions.Β

CORRESPONDENCE AND INVITATIONSΒ

On the Art of Folding and the Company One Keeps

There are few things more quietly revealing than a letter, for long before a word is read, one has already made an impression. The manner in which parchment is folded, whether crisp and precise or hurried and uneven, speaks to the care - or lack thereof - with which it was crafted. A clean fold, aligned with intention, suggests a thoughtful hand, while an untidy one may betray a restless mind. It is a small detail, perhaps, but society is built upon such subtleties.

Equally telling, though far less discussed, is the choice of carrier. Birds, like letters, are rarely without meaning. A dove conveys gentleness and sincerity, a swallow swiftness and quiet reliability. More striking choices such as a raven for instance, may lend an air of mystery, though not always the comforting sort. One must take care that one’s message is not overshadowed by the messenger, for while novelty may delight, it may also distract.

In all things, I would gently remind my readers that correspondence is not merely a matter of communication, but of presentation. A letter, properly prepared and thoughtfully sent, is not soon forgotten and neither is its author.

WHISPERS OF THE COURT

On Matters Entirely PredictableΒ

It would seem that, despite the ever changing fashions of Novo Horos, certain habits within society remain steadfastly unchanged. One hears, with little surprise, that a certain Countess of Mont Neige has taken an interest not in her peers, but rather in a member of her household staff, namely a stable boy whose duties, one assumes, have grown considerably more demanding of late. Such stories, while whispered with great enthusiasm, are rarely as novel as their tellers believe.

Elsewhere, a quieter observation has made its way through the halls. The Baron of BromlΓ©e and the eldest daughter of the Duke of Stratton were both noted to have departed a recent ball somewhat earlier than expected and, one might add, at nearly the same hour. No great scene, no scandal of note, merely an absence that did not go entirely unremarked upon. One imagines there are perfectly reasonable explanations, though society as ever, remains thoughtfully curious.

In truth, I cannot help but feel that the court delights in repetition, even in its indiscretions. Still, one watches with shock, but with a certain patience for something truly original to occur.

PETALS AND PRESENTATION

On the Language Spoken Without Words

Within a well kept household, few details are so quietly influential as the arrangement of florals. A thoughtfully composed bouquet does more than adorn a room, it sets its tone, reflects its mistress, and, when chosen with care, conveys sentiments that words alone may not be able to express. Whether welcoming guests, marking an occasion, or offering comfort, floral arrangements serve as both decoration and declaration.

Yet with such subtlety comes risk, for a misplaced bloom or an ill-considered pairing may speak entirely the wrong message. A gesture meant as admiration may be mistaken for presumption, or a token of friendship for something far more intimate. It is in these delicate distinctions that many find themselves quite unintentionally embarrassed.

Fortunately, guidance is not beyond reach. Princess Caerine Mareno, whose thoughtful work on the language of flowers has already found its way into many hands since her arrival to the Capital, has provided a most useful reference for those wishing to avoid such missteps. Her writings serve as a gentle reminder that beauty, when paired with understanding, becomes something far more meaningful.

For in flowers, as it is in society, it is not merely what is given, but what is meant that lingers.

ON NOTICE

A Consideration of Distinction and Discretion

Β

From time to time, a figure emerges within society who draws the eye not through title alone, but through presence, and such is certainly the case with Lady Cecilia of BodΓ©n whose recent appearance has not gone unremarked upon. Known to some, perhaps more intimately than others, as a companion to His Imperial Highness, the Emperor’s second son, she has become the subject of considerable attention within the capital.

At a recent engagement, Lady Cecilia was seen adorned in a striking set of ruby jewelry, stones of remarkable depth and brilliance, catching the light in a manner most difficult to ignore. It is, of course, well understood that rubies are traditionally reserved for members of the imperial family, their use bound as much in symbolism as in splendor. One might therefore suggest that such a choice is an intentional one.

And yet, it would be remiss not to acknowledge that Lady Cecilia wears both the jewels and the attention they bring with undeniable grace. Hers is a beauty that commands notice without effort, and a presence that lingers long after she has passed. Whether her adornment is to be read as boldness, oversight, or something more deliberate, I leave, as ever, to the interpretation of my readers.

For in matters of distinction, it is not only what is wornβ€”but who dares to wear itβ€”that shapes the conversation.

AFFAIRS OF THE REALM

On Festivities, Finery, and Favor

The Empire, it would seem, has no intention of slipping quietly into the season. Preparations are already underway for the anniversary of the March of Nestor, a festival long held in both remembrance and celebration. One may expect the capital to be filled with pageantry, music, and the sort of spirited attendance that reminds us all how fond the court is of traditionβ€”particularly when it is accompanied by spectacle.

In matters of fashion, there is further cause for anticipation. A new shipment of fine silks has arrived in Novo Horos, and with it, no small amount of excitement among the nobility. Such fabrics, known for their richness and fluidity, rarely remain unclaimed for long. I suspect we shall soon see their influence reflected in a number of gownsβ€”each, no doubt, striving to outshine the last.

Lastly, a gesture of generosity has been extended from the throne itself. In honor of his birthday, His Imperial Majesty has seen fit to lower the tax upon raw gold, a decision that will surely be received with appreciation across the realm. Whether this results in greater prosperity or simply more ambitious displays of wealth remains, as ever, to be seen.

As always, I thank you, my readers, for your continued attention and discerning eye. Society is ever changing, yet it is through observation, reflection, and the occasional indulgence in beauty that we come to understand it best. Until next we meet, I remain. . .Β

. . .Yours, most faithfully,

Β

My dearest cousin,

Every day I miss you, and I await your return most eagerly. My tenth nameday is soon to arrive, and I hope that you might send me a gift, perhaps…

Β

Just kidding! But I am so very proud of you. I have not let the court, nor our peers, forget about you and the wonder you bring to our fair Empire. I pray for you each night and look forward to the day you finally grace the lands of Azuras again.

Β

P.S., I saw your name in the magazine. How exciting! You must teach me the ways of flower arrangement when you return.

Β

Yours always,

Eirene of Myrine
