a few questions and an intro

hello 👋 idk if I made this correctly.

I've roleplayed before, but not on a minecraft server and not this one obv so I have a few questions.

1. I feel awkward just hopping on alone. I'm planning on joining a group, should I look for fellow new players or more experienced ones? or is it better to just be alone lol

2. how much elven do I need to know. I logged on for the first time and someone started talking to me in what I assume was elven in the lobby area. I instantly logged off. how much do I need to know to fit in with the cool kids.

3. can I still touch grass? what's the recommended time to devote to get the best experience out of the server? not sure if I worded that correctly but yk.

Hello! I am Fizz... As for questions- I have a few suggestions. I would recommend you join a group of experienced players to help you along. You don't need to learn elven but its recommended, yes you can touch grass but  some people here do not. Just make sure to stay far away from drama, because LOTC can get drama heavy. Take breaks if you need, and remember- its just a game.

Anyways, hope you have fun! Enjoy lotc :3

Finding RP is usually better in a group but being alone works just as well. And I personally would suggest older players so you can learn the ropes with people who can help instead of being in the same boat as you, but that doesn't mean don't rp with new players as well.

You aren't really required to learn any languages, but karin'ayla and ker'ayla for basically hello depending on day or night, ti means yes, and van'ayla is basically goodbye. You can learn more if you want tho.

You don't need to spend too much time on the server if you don't want to. There will be people like me who are on at least like 6 hours a day every day every week, but you would probably be just fine hoping on for 1 to 2 hours a week. Just make sure you have time for events and rp that you do because they can take a while.

Also hello, enjoy the server.

Wolfy gave good advice - so i'll essentially add to them :D (it became a thesis)

Finding groups is a good idea. Make friends & enjoy the RP with em! Events both social & others are good places to do so. It's a bit difficult at times to join a new community, but hanging out, going around & seeing what each nation region of the Empire has to offer is a good idea. Also, don't sweat not knowing things & do ask people. 90% of the time people are willing to help out a new player!

That's a bit rough haha, but i assure you don't need to know a lot of it. There's a few player-bases/races that has their own language quirks & some go pretty in-depth with it. It's not mandatory, just a bit of spice for RP. The player you interacted with probably just wanted to show off the Ancient Elven & how cool it is. As Wolfy said - karin'ayla and ker'ayla are fine basic things. Do ask people if you don't understand OOC.

Absoloutly. I'd even say it's a good idea to do so & take breaks from LotC, if you find yourself playing a ton of it! Do keep in mind that sometimes Events & especially Combat can take a BIG chunk of your time. Like hours. As for the 'optimal time', it depends from person to person. Sometimes there are big droughts of RP for you, where nothing happens & then you suddenly have 3 different things you got to do at the same time. A general rule i'd say is IRL>LOTC - as some people get way too into it lmao.

Few other things to keep in mind:
- As a new player, a ton of new information & how the RP happens & commands & what is 'good RP' will be thrown at you. It might seem a lot at first, but don't worry! Always ask if you need an explination or help.
- Remember, it's a PG-13 server. Don't go crazy out there.
- Talk to characters who got a pink-name, they're CT staff members & it's essentially their job to help you out.
- Sometimes RP can get intense & people will get mega into it. Or are super busy & focused on something else. Don't take what happens IRP personally!
- The server is most active starting from around 2pm-3pm EST, if you want to find RP that's the best time. You can use /realms activity & hover over the different places to see where players are.
- If you ever make a goblin, hit me up >:))

This i guess is already a lot of information, but i guess a general idea is to explore, look around, have fun & experience LotC for yourself o7

Hi bud! welcome to the server!

1. if you need help finding a good community, do put in a /creq next time you are on, one of us community team members can help you out.

I've seen a lot of luck and success come from new players sticking together. You all learn new things together, and get the benefit of enjoying the server through new fresh eyes without older players souring experiences before you get to go through them. I returned to this server after five years, and found solace in a group of newer players, most of them I still speak to till this day and we are still close and roleplaying together.

There are also plenty of communities that are friendly to new players as they are seeking to grow their communities. Again, us community team members can help you! You may even receive some dms from this post inviting you to stop by and check out a settlement.

2. the benefit of being a new player is getting to take advantage of the fact you are a new player. Players are very friendly and welcoming when they know you're a new player. if you have questions, switch to looc and ask! simply saying 'hi im a new player, what is this or what does this mean' can go a long way!

3. yes, PLEASE touch grass! just about everyone on this server knows that lotc can be very addicting. fear of missing out is a real thing on this server. NEVER feel bad about not being on though. there is a command on the server, /seen [ign]. if you run this command, it shows some information, like when someone was last online, and how much time they have spent online in the past week.  If you get to 3 days of playtime in a week, that is usually your sign that, wow, you've been on alot!

please do not judge yourself for your playtime though. Many have expressed that lotc is or has been an outlet during really hard times. Sometimes people use this server to get through their day. If you are ever concerned that you may be spending too much time on the server, reach out! my dms are always open, ive BEEN THERE.

The best advice I can give is to not take lotc too seriously. let us know if you have anymore questions!

Below I've linked some very useful resources if you're playing an elf and want to engage with the language, though even this is going above and beyond. Ancient Elven is just that, ancient, and player characters only have access to fragments of an otherwise lost-to-time language.

Most players will only ever use the following:

Karin'ayla (good morning, hello)

Ker'ayla (good night, hello)

Karin'ahern (blessed day, fancy hello)

Ti (yes)

Ne (no)

Llir (friend)

Mali'ame (wood elf)

Mali'aheral (high elf)

Mali'ker (dark elf)

((PS: I'm the player who approached you at CT and scared you off, I'm very sorry about that!)
