LEADING A HOUSE IS A TASK that requires a lifetime of continual learning and adaptation. It requires difficult, often polarizing decisions; it comes with loss; and it forms the basis of one’s identity for the remainder of their days. Much of my youth and adulthood was wrought with the worries of properly fulfilling the legacy left by my father, Aurellius, and I cannot say that every step of the way was easy—yet even so, I cherish the time I have been given to lead my family and I would trade it for nothing.

 

I retire wholly satisfied with all I have done and well pleased with the position I leave the House of Greye and its Barony in, which was not only the work of my own hands but that of my father, siblings, children, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. It fills this old heart with pride to know that I am leaving it to such capable folk, and I hope that the many generations that come after me follow in the footsteps of those who preceded, for each and every member of Greye has my heart.

 

Being of sound mind and body, I, Ser Aurus Edmond Greye-O’Rourke, do abdicate to my heir, Augusta ‘Rhuniel’ Aedrica Greye. Her dedication to the House, as well as her studies in diplomacy, etiquette, and history have continually brought me pride. She has proven herself a young woman full of wisdom, careful consideration, and leadership that I am confident will usher the House into further prosperity for so long as she leads.

 

Augusta shall henceforth hold the titles Baroness of Edrica and Matriarch of House Greye. Further, I bestow upon her the epiphet ‘Prudentia’ for her soundness of mind, discernment, and sensibility.

I'm so so honored for the opportunity to have played Aurus and to have gotten to lead Greye. Aurus was my second character on LOTC and I was so excited to be given the position, even though I felt there were very big steps to fill - which is not surprising given @xDisarray, who started the house in Balian a bit after we'd both joined, is an incredible RPer, leader, PvPer, and had a vision from the very beginning of wanting to start his own house. My hope was mainly to help get Greye to a higher nobility considering Dis was crazy enough to already have gotten it nobility within the first gen, and I'm pretty happy having eventually landed in Idunia with the beautiful build we have now. Huge thanks to @Cally for wanting to take Greye under her wing early on.

 

There were a lot of ups and downs throughout the time I had to lead, a lot of learning involved, and I wasn't always very active. Some things were not executed as well as they could/should have been, and other things I am incredibly proud of! But most of all I'm really grateful to have gotten to spend so much time around so many awesome people, watch them interact with what Greye was and was becoming, and seeing the House grow into it's own unique culture. I love the Greye playerbase so much and I'm excited to keep watching it grow even from a backseat. Regardless of where it goes from here, I had a great run and an amazing time.

 

I also want to thank @_KnightEvil for playing Aedric and bringing so much chemistry to the table, @PoliteEquation7 for being an absolute rockstar and huge cornerstone of the playerbase, @confusedjester for the extremely wholesome relationship with Einin, and @Lirinya for being a fantastic heir. And, of course, every other member of the House, who are too numerous to name.

Vesryn Greye received the missive after forging a certain blade, looking over its glowing surface with pride.

 

"About time that old man passed down the torch." He'd grin, looking up at the moon in prayer.

 

"Mother-Moon, Guide Augusta in her new duties, as you have guided all others." The Maehr murmured as he reflected on every event that led to this point.

"Still owe me that pub brawl though. . . .for old time's sake"
