INTRO

My fire is burning quite brightly. I stand by on the sidelines, watching as delectable gossip forms itself from the cinders of duplicity and wrongdoing. Though do not fret, not everything I speak of in this edition is terrible news! Babes swathed with silk grace our empire once more, an heir in fact! Not all things negative fuel my flame, but rather the conduct of everything in my beloved Azuras. Prepare yourselves! This author has come to bring great gossip indeed! Grasp tightly onto your veils and hats, the heat from the fire might scorch your scalps.

A SLOB’S MISDEEDS

Valwyck has had very little mention in my writing, but perhaps the misdeeds of a certain Duke shall bring it to light once more. Alongside his siring of six full-blooded Baruch children, it appears that Duke Duncan II has also sired a bastard with that of a commoner! Whoever the mother may be, I feel nothing but sympathy for poor Duchess Constantina. With children making headways into the public eye, the news of a bastard will only sully their debuts into the Imperium.

Of course, such is not their fault. We have only to blame the slobbish Duke Duncan for his unfaithfulness towards his wedded wife. After the passing of her late father, dearest Constantina has struggled upholding the state of her family and now such scandal has fallen upon her marital household! This author is not surprised by Duncan’s actions, but rather upset for the lovely family of Bears. The objection of Constantina’s family to this exchanging of marital vows was perhaps a foreboding hint from the stars above

LIKE FATHER, LIKE SCOUNDREL

Apples fall not far from their trees as one might say, though this green apple might as well still be on the branch. Some might remember the late Alexandre Devereux for his past ways of sleazing around the Empire in his youth before he finally settled down—might his son be on a similar path? Elliot Devereux took two favors at a recent tourney in Alba, one from Imperial Princess Drusilla, and the other from Madeleine Alstion during the last couple rounds. Having multiple ladies wishing to grant their honorable favor to one knight is not odd, but a knight accepting more than one is most insulting indeed.

A most rude notion out in public, especially to a courtier such as the Imperial Princess. It is said Elliot quickly lost his good luck after receiving Lady Madeleine’s favor, as he lost the final two rounds in the tourney. Scoundrels continue to crowd the lands of Azuras, though there are few willing to make a fool out of themselves in such a public way. Thankfully, Princess Drusilla reclaimed her favor from the dishonorable Devereux right after, refusing to slight her image even further. This author questions whether or not Elliot Devereux intended to make such an offense, though regardless of intent, it certainly has sullied his name for the future to come.

ALBAN TRIUMPH

Joyous shouts ring out from the walls of St. Godwinsburg, an heir has been born to the Alstion line! After a long period without much hope for the future of Alba, John Phillip Alstion’s first cries awoke Alba with a mighty roar. Blessed with life shortly after the fiery wyvern attack on the city, perhaps this little one’s path is blessed with dragon’s blood? An omen, one may say, of great things to come; true dragonsblood prevailing during that of a faux dragon’s assault.

Maybe this will finally allow the Duchess of Furnestock a period of reprieve from the slanderous notions thrown upon her by the men of the Alban courts. She shall be a lesson to all young ladies of Alba’s courts—no matter how dreadful the wag of a man's tongue may be with insistent demands, you will prevail with the fiery roar of a dragon ‘longside you.

OUTRO

It turns out my flame was aided in its lighting with a dragon’s cindery breath. Perhaps me and the Horens will finally get along, fated in the silvery stars above? Hunts for my identity are still on the rise, though perhaps from even those outside of the Imperial family. Even so, this author continues to write to please those waiting for good gossip. I may leave you waiting on the occasion, but I never disappoint. This author’s quill remains sharp and ready to tell you the stories of Azuras (and primarily Alba, it seems) for many future moons to come.

Until then;
Fare thee well,
Lady Truthful

Somehow, Bernard manages to get a copy and scans the page.

But where is the story about the thirty year old knight who entered and nearly won a children's competition?

The Duchess Constantina was delivered her copy of the paper by a nervous paperboy - a reasonable reaction from the child. However, unexpectedly, a thin-lipped smile settled across the woman's face as her fingers traced over the article slandering her family - namely her husband. "My," she hummed, "seems the cat's come out of the bag... how terrible!" She went about her day after, accepting sympathies and feigning shame from friends and acquainted courtiers. A handkerchief wiping a few false tears here, cries of 'I don't know how he could have done this' there...

But that evening, after a meeting with her sons, Constantina retired to her chambers, and looked out of the window overlooking the town of Tarnavon. Something lifted from her shoulders, almost freeing. On her hand sat a treasured bird the Duchess kept as a pet, to whom she cooed. "Soon, we shall have this all remedied." She sighed, catching sight of a small, unilluminated cottage at the edge of the Garenwald. "...Just a little more waiting."

"Good Lord, Lady Madeleine Alstion is but.. six years old. Why must they drag Sir Elliot's name through the mud for accepting a favour that was clearly just the light-hearted game of a child?" Jean Halcourt remarks, his feet propped up on a stool beside the crackling campfire of Sternfell. He folds up the tabloid, setting it aside. He would burn it if it were not one of the few sources of connection to home that the crusaders at Sternfell have.
