The Scourge

Let me just start by saying that I do enjoy EVERYTHING that the staff has done thus far. I have enjoyed the vast maps. the excellent ruins, the powered up mods (not sure why people complained it was accurate for RP), and this is my attempt at trying to get the dwarven player-base back to the dwarven kingdom.

Now as many have probably heard in other lore and stories. The dwarves are always fighting a war of their own in the mountains or the caves. Whether it be the orcs in warhammer, the Falmer in Skyrim or the Darkspawn in Dragon Age. Dwarves have always protected the rest of the races from a rather unseen evil.

Now this is my idea, there are many many caverns and tunnels in Karik, we are attempting our very own "deeproads" and we have random gates that lead to no where as well as unexplored caverns connected to the main city. I would suggest that in one or more of these cavern we have a steady stream of non-neather mobs. This would be making a reason for there to be guards and add to interest in joining a guild within Karik. Naturally the guards will need supplies for fighting the scourge so smithing and mining would be a crucial part as well. This would create a reason for more jobs and we could even have "trading caravans" between Karik and Kal'Dwain. Increasing the flow of travel leading to and from Karik, creating a sense of bustle and activity.

The lore of the scourge would also be accurate due to the dwarven kingdom being the furthest to the west as well as the dwarves living underground sharing huge caverns with the monsters. By creating expansion we could RP stumbling upon a few sources of the monsters. Occasionally the monsters will become aware of the dwarves presence and stage an "assault" and the greater mobs such as giants or slimes will come out to attack in a large concentration. While normally it would be a steady stream of spiders, skeletons and zombies if possible.

I would like to see how people react to this idea. My argument for creating this event/RP would be to attract the dwarves back to the place they should be. Dwarves are a deeply knit and secretive race. We should not be roaming around living in human kingdoms and such. This is my attempt to make Karik an active city rather than a ghost town.

I know this is asking a lot of the staff but I do feel this would increase dwarven activity in the actual dwarven capital. As well as adding jobs, RP and scenarios in which players can experience only in the dwarven city.

I completely agree. If you have read The Dwarves by Markus Heitz the monsters try to break through the dwarven defenses. The rest of the world doesn't have to deal with monsters until at last they finally break through. The next 2 books are about how they expell them from their world. Maybe have a huge wave of mobs every Saturday?

Sorta (Incoming World of Warcraft Reference) Like the Invasion of Gnomergon? When they stumbled upon the creature things and it threatened the city as a whole?

Exactly and the whole point of this would to be attracting players back into the city and bond the dwarves together with a common cause while staying true to dwarven culture and attitudes.

This idea is great, it would lead to a sense of unity between the dwarves, it'd make us all feel responsible for the well being of our race. Not only would it open up many roleplaying possibilities, but it'd make people be able to aid the defenders through supplying them with the means to well, defend. Very good idea.

And what's good about this idea is that it isn't really "Another Undead" Its more of the dwarves trying to hold their ground and they have to band together to take their mountains back!

Would you mind if I took part of this idea and made a more detailed post on it?

By all means go ahead Leland, I'd love to see what you have to bring to the table.

This could easily facilitate grinding. Even if exp gain could be turned off or lowered in the area, I still don't see the point. Just because it's been done in books doesn't mean it will work in RP, and the GMs are encouraging inter-racial conflict. Why introduce a Big Bad that will only distract a nation from outside RP?

If you look at Karik now, it's a ghost town. We would not run in and go gun-ho on all the mobs, they would be RPd as a huge source of creatures that anyone mad enough to go into the caverns would die. The nation is essentially non-existent, we really don't have anyone within the city as of now. The whole point of this is to attract dwarves back to the kingdom's capital.

Right now I think we only have 3-4 non government dwarves who live in the kingdom. That is what we are trying to solve.

Then I would advise doing something IC to get them to come back. Don't try to get another Big Bad made just to make Dwarves return, do something IC! If no one wants to return, don't try OOC to create an opposition to fight against, your characters should be trying to solve this problem themselves!
