Out-Of-Character

Minecraft Account Name:

Empirarte

How old are you?:

16

Time-Zone/Country of Residence:

Chicago (UTC -6:00) Central Standard Time

Do you have a good grip on the English language/good grammar?:

It's my first language and I write it in everyday.

Small 2-3 Sentence Description of yourself:

I'm an atypical teenager who enjoys reading, gaming, and other worlds with a great amount of depth and universal themes that can connect to our world. I quite enjoy philosophical or political discussions, learning languages, and have traveled through many places throughout the world.

How much time could you be on the server weekly?:

I'd say 10 hours a week with school work and other extra-curricular activities.

What do you know about Roleplaying? Give a definition of what it means to you:

Roleplaying is the imitation of and impersonation of a fictional character that one has created and is continuing to develop as they further play out the episode. Not just improvisation, the character being developed should be logically consistent in their actions and personality as well as thinking. By taking on other roles, can we not only have fun but understand what life might be like in someone else's shoes or how they might think.

What experience have you had in Roleplaying, if any?:

I've done a variety of roleplaying from IRC chat roleplay to MMO (Runescape or the Old Republic) and when I'm in some singleplayer RPGs I try to be a part of the world that I am in as an actual person in the game by walking around and doing pointless things that AI might do.

In your own Words, define what the act of Meta-Gaming is:

Meta-gaming is essentially breaking the fourth wall by giving your character knowledge or advice that he ordinarily would not be able to know without some form of divine revelation. Characters are limited by their perspective and cannot be omniscient.

In your own Words, define what the act of Power-Gaming is:

Power Gaming is taking the role of narrator for other peoples character and taking advantage of them unfairly. This commonly takes places when someone kills someone spontaneously without any fight taking place prior. This is rude because the other people have no way they can perceive or prevent the over powered action from happening to their character unless they themselves powergame.

What do you expect this server will be like?:

From the little I've played on it as a ghost, I expect that it will be an immsersive world with races and cultures based on Tolkien-esque ideas and Middle Earth; however, Lord of the Craft has its own lore and topography. I also hope there will be a RPG level-up system accompanied with a complex economy both of which I enjoy. I also expect a mature and friendly community to be there who are neither judgemental or inappropriate.

What other server(s) have you played on and why did you leave them?:

I've played on five or six servers in the past. The RPG servers being Herocraft, which I left a year ago because I had too little time then, CivRP which was a little too empty for my liking, and right now I'm doing CNation but I prefer having a level-up system.

Have you read, understood, and agreed to the rules?:

Yes.

Do you promise to abide by said rules, and laws? This includes the Server, Forum, and Teamspeak set Rules:

Of course.

How did you hear about us?:

Minecraft forums and Gamefront's top 10 Minecraft servers

Have you voted for the Lord of the Craft on Minestatus? Which vote number were you?:

Not yet because I haven't been able to experience it.

In-Character:

Character Name:

Balator

What Race are you?:

Dwarf

What Sub-Race are you? (note, you aren’t required to have a sub-race):

Biography (Please make this at least 2 paragraphs long. This must include the history of your character and his life as well as age, appearance and personality, etc.):

Short, stocky, and bearded like nearly all dwarves, Balator was born into a family that had once been well-to-do but had declined over the past few centuries. Born and living in Kal’Urguan, Balator always wanted to bring power, glory, and riches not only to his own family but the Dwarven people in general. Motivated by the legends he had been told as a little one, Balator continued to nurse his ambition throughout his adolescence. Having come of age just recently he left the home of his parents with only the family heirloom, an armor set, strapped on him in order to make his own way in the world.

Still trying to decide whether to seek power through politics or guilds, Balator is still looking around. He knows the army is now an option due to his squeamishness at blood and would be a better usurper than general not only because of this but also since he is charismatic. He is not much of a bookish type as he is filled with the fire of late adolescence and thinks only of earthly things, however this may change as he ages. Balator is nearly nineteen) and has the energy of such youth.

What is your Character's ambitions?:

His goal is to gain as much power and money as he can in order to bring the Dwarven people to glory.

What is your character’s favorite tool? (sword, pickaxe, shovel, etc):

Pickaxe.

What is one of your Character's most skilled talents?

Unlike most other dwarves, Balator is persuasive and has a good sense of charisma.

A screenshot of your skin (must be in proper format):

Other Information about your Character:

He does not take much pleasure in beer like most Dwarves.

Open-Response-Questions

Whilst traveling from the Cloud Temple you see a small halfling, being harassed by two armed warriors. They appear to be trying to steal money from him, how does your character respond?

Balator would play his cards right, making it seem like he is a scout for a Dwarven army and he will turn them in if they don't give him his fair share. If they see the bluff, he'll just move along quietly, making sure they wouldn't cause him any trouble. He would neglect to tell any guards of the situation as he wouldn't want them investigating him.

Your character wanders into Alras, and comes across a small stall, behind which a well dressed man is standing. He’s offering various wares, the merchant turns to you and says in a posh accent " 'ello there, what can I do you for today?" What is your character response?

"I would like to know the prices with which you sell your goods." -Response- "Really that is a bit high for a dwarf like me, how about a little lower?" etc.

Whilst wandering in the wilds, your character comes across a small hut, which looks abandoned. Inside it you see a chest containing a few iron bars, and a golden sword. How would your character respond?:

If he could carry it, Balator would take all of it, search the hut for anything else then leave. If not, he would carry it outside and a short distance, then bury it, hoping to retrieve it later. He would feel no regret as no soul seemed to be the owner of these items, and if there was they probably wouldn't miss it if it was left in a dingy old shack.

Hungry and lost in the wilderness, you stumble across a small trading camp nestled among the forest, they greet you you in the common tongue, how do you respond?

"Why it seems like you've got a nice establishment here, may I do some work here to help out? I'd accept just a little food and a place for the night. Oh, you say you're merchants? Well maybe I can help you out..." (If they have considerable enough wealth, Balator might stay and try to make a profit off of them, and if not he would find out where the nearest city or town was to continue on his way.)

You hear word that bandits occupy the road outside the town in which you have been staying. The town guard have gathered, and are asking for assistance to help eliminate them. The leader of the party is offering a reward for any who offer their support. How does your character act on this information?:

Balator would join but keep his distance and stay safe unless he can do something that would look admirable or get his payment. He's only in it for the rewards, but wouldn't do much if fighting actually happened. If he could, he would try to sell some wares to the watch while they are walking around.

Your application has been:

Denied

Do not worry though; this does not mean you cannot apply again, quite the contrary! After 24 hours you may apply again which gives you plenty of time to fix up your application, plan it out as well as use all of this advice which I have given you in this post to make your application one of the best. Please check the links at the bottom of this post, they will help you quite a bit.

You have been denied because:

Your definition for powergaming needs improvement.

*Note* currently the wiki is under construction, so you may have to wait a day or so before you will be able to access it for the required information. Sorry about that :/ **

Luckily for you there are plenty of ways to learn the correct definition. First of all you can look on the lord of the craft wiki and then search for "Powergaming", you can join our Team Speak channel (You can get Team Speak from http://teamspeak.com/?page=downloads ), or you can do a google search.

Your biography needs a little improvement.

What you have written is fine, but you need to go into a little more detail on the points you have already given. I would also like to see the entire question answered, namely the: "age, appearance and personality, etc." . With the description don’t just write He is tall and old and carries around a bow. There are a lot of tall, old people who carry around bows. Get descriptive; what is your hair colour? How long? Eye colour? Big eyes? Small eyes? Do you have wrinkles? How tall are you? Are you muscled or slim but agile?

You also need to add your characters strengths and weaknesses as well as reasons for such. For example, if your character is good at swordsmanship, bows or even farming you need to explain in your biography why your character is so good in what it does and how it developed these skills.

We would like you to include some lore from the world of Aegis and/or Asulon such as names of towns and people, or even events which have happened before and your characters connection to the event. You can find all about the lore of Lord of the Craft here: http://www.lordofthecraft.net/wiki/,'>http://www.lordofthecraft.net/wiki/, or in the lore/history sections of the forum and website. The types of lore you can include can people places such as towns and kingdoms, or even people or events (such as the exodus from Aegis to Asulon which affected almost everyone).

Your open response answers are in need of improvement.

I would like to see no "etc.'s", -response- or if this happens, then he would do that, or if that happens he would do this.

You are in charge of what happens, do not get slack and write something like that. Use your imagination!

I would also like you to write more actively, as you seem to be writing very pasively right now. For example, instead of "Josh would attack the bandits, and then help the Halfling." Write like this: Josh walks up behind the bandits, weapon drawn. "I wouldn't do that if I was you. Now, step away from the lil 'alfling all quite like, and nothing will happen." The two armed men look at Josh, perplexed for a few moments, then burst out laughing. "Wa? Dis lil guy thinks e's gonna save 'is future wive is 'e?" Josh just stares back at them, shifting the weapon into a more ready stance...

Do you see the difference? The second is just so much more exciting!

Even the shop question can be improved. Just write AS DETAILED AS YOU CAN. Write about the grasshopper bouncing in the background, the sounds of the river, a frog or a splash of a fish, the sheen of sweat on the stall keepers brow! You name it, just be creative! The more creative you are, the better habits you develop as a roleplayer in-game!

I must protest, not only was that the most compelling & well written app ever, it was also a long app. RETHINK YOUR DECISION GOLDENGFX!

Perhaps you would refrain from such in the future? While you are allowed to protest against a decision, but we prefer you do so in a calm and mature manner. Calling your application one which is "the most compelling and well written app ever" is hardly mature, and neither is telling the GM who reviewed you to rethink their decision in full capital letters.

Please wait 24 hours or your application will be instantly denied.

This gives you a chance to have a cup of tea and read all of which I have provided, then give you a break and a fresh mind to re-write your application in the required areas. This is also to prevent the spamming of applications, as if there was no limit we would be absolutely swamped with applications.

Please do send a PM my way if you are having any trouble understanding the application process or my feedback, I would be glad to help you. :)

Good luck for your next application!
