Viper3X 1056 Share Posted February 24, 2012 Out-Of-Character Minecraft Account Name: Viper3X How old are you?: 15, turning 16 this March. Time-Zone/Country of Residence: I live in the province Ontario, in the country Canada. My time zone is -5 EST. Do you have a good grip on the English language/good grammar?: Considering the fact that English is my primary language, yes, I would say that I have a very good understanding of the English language. I have great grammar skills and quite a large vocabulary. Small 2-3 Sentence Description of yourself: I am very friendly and love to make friends. I have good social skills and I am a great troubleshooter. I love helping people solve their issues and enjoy assisting others. How much time could you be on the server weekly?: I am not a busy person, but I do like to spread my gaming time throughout a few different games. On a fairly accurate estimate I would say that I would be able to play on the server 20-30 hours per week, give or take a few. What do you know about Roleplaying? Give a definition of what it means to you: Roleplaying to me means to be in the shoes of a (usually self-created) character, and to play the role of that character. Most of the time people create their own backstory to add to the meaning and to give purpose to their character. The backstory is a way of showing someone how their character came to be, and why he is the way he is. Roleplaying is a great way to play the role of someone you may have never became in life, or as someone you can't be (i.e. mage). What experience have you had in Roleplaying, if any?: I have roleplayed on numerous other servers, particularly Garry's Mod RP. I used to roleplay on a not-so-serious RP server, and over a year later moved on to a very serious roleplay server (Starship Troopers was the theme). In your own Words, define what the act of Meta-Gaming is: To me, meta-gaming is the act of using out-of-game information for your in-game character. A word I like to use to describe this is "behavior prediction." An example of this would be if you walked up to a man who was using a robber skin and instantly shouted, "Please don't steal from me!" Now. you wouldn't know this because the person never acted in any way to make you think that he was a robber or that he was going to attempt to rob from you. In your own Words, define what the act of Power-Gaming is: In my words, the act of power-gaming is forcing something upon someone in a way that they don't have a chance to prevent it. For example, player 1 walks up to player 2 and demands one dollar. Player 2 refuses to give player 1 the dollar so player 1 decides to power-game and types in "/me steals player 2's dollar." This is an example of power-gaming because player 2 had no way of preventing player 1 from stealing his hard-earned cash. What do you expect this server will be like?: I think I will definitely enjoy my time on Lord of the Craft and I should fit in nicely. Once I join a community I intend to stay and grow with the community, and that's what I am all about. LotC appears to be full of friendly faces so I can't wait to meet people and start creating friendships. What other server(s) have you played on and why did you leave them?: As said before, I have been a part of many servers in the past. A couple of them worth mentioning are Notorious Gamers (NTG), and Epsilon Community, both of them are Garry's Mod servers. Notorious Gamers wasn't a very serious roleplaying server, but it was still lots of fun. I became an administrator on the server, but there was always a lot of drama between the other admins (mostly everyone [except for me] was in their young teens, including the server owner. Keeping it short and to the point, I eventually decided to move on, but I still keep in touch with a few of the members. As for Epsilon, it is a Starship Troopers themed roleplaying server. They are serious in their roleplay and, I admit, at times I struggled to "fit in," but I have learned a lot about roleplaying from their community. I would say that because of my experience with them I have grown to be a better roleplayer, and I still go on their server from time to time. Have you read, understood, and agreed to the rules?: Certainly, I always abide by server rules and I never aim to disobey. Do you promise to abide by said rules, and laws? This includes the Server, Forum, and Teamspeak set Rules: I promise. How did you hear about us?: I was browsing for a new texture pack a few months back and I came across LB Photo Realism. In the creator's thread on the Minecraft Forums he suggested Lord of the Craft and, well, here I am. At first I took my time before I decided to sign up for the whitelist. I wanted to learn more about what the server was about and explore some of the world. I also did not create an application right away because I was too busy with another server and I wanted to wait to sign up when I had time to play on LotC. Have you voted for the Lord of the Craft on Minestatus? Which vote number were you?: I was voter number 3484. In-Character: Character Name: Thorvald Hrothgar What Race are you?: Human What Sub-Race are you? (note, you aren’t required to have a sub-race): N/A Biography (Please make this at least 2 paragraphs long. This must include the history of your character and his life as well as age, appearance and personality, etc.): Where do I start... I was a boy, far away from these lands. My family was constantly on the move from village to village for fear of a bandit attack. Times were tough back then, and we had it rough. Father didn't have a steady income, and my younger brother was always sick. "He'll get better soon." Ma always used to say. I was only nine when little Jimmie's illness grew worse, and he passed away in June. It was a sad day for our small family. As time passed on, we eventually found a nice town to settle down in. Father got a job as the local blacksmith, and mother would bake pies for the orphanage. I mostly kept to myself. Didn't have a lot of friends either, but it didn't bother me. Father taught me how to use a sword when I was only eleven years of age. "You'll need it one day." he always told me. I became very attached to that sword. Still have it with me to this day. I never grew tired of training on that old practice dummy my father used to haul around. I started learning how to use a bow when I was fourteen years old. "You have the accuracy of a true marksman." my father used to tell me. We used to go out and shoot fowl together. Those were the days... When I turned sixteen, my older brother, Ulfin, became close friends to an aspiring adventurer. That same year he went on his first journey. Gone for six months he was. Came back in August. At times he would stay up 'til daylight hours telling me stories. But that's enough about my family. More about me, you ask? Where do I begin... well, I guess I could say that I was a lively one. Always had a passion for blacksmithing, I did. Learned straight from my father. It was sort of a hobby... more or less. Crafted my own weapons and armor when I was just a young man. When I turned twenty-five I joined the local militia. Never really enjoyed it, to tell you the truth. I always wanted more... more of a... thrill. I was brave, to say the least. And I always protected my loved ones, no matter the danger. Sometimes I got a little too over my head, but I learned from those mistakes. I remember one time when I was twenty-seven and a band of furious orcs ravaged our town in search of their lost child. They thought we kidnapped him. That wasn't true at all, and I along with a few others stood up to their nonsense. Lets just say... it didn't end well. These orcs were not your average joes. They were huge. Muscles and all. I still remember the face of that eight foot giant whose club broke my leg. That was a gruesome day, and I don't usually share that one. The next four years of my life were spent exploring the lands with a few buddies of mine, and it set the gears in motion for my future which was soon to come... OOC: Thorvald is currently 31 years old. He is great with a sword and shield but uses his bow as a secondary weapon. Plate and chainmail is his armor of choice. His parents are still alive, along with his older brother, but his younger brother is deceased. He has no sisters. He has a great respect for the law and hopes to become a guard one day. Blacksmithing is also one of his hobbies. What is your Character's ambitions?: To one day become the captain of the guard. He hopes to eventually become married to the woman of his dreams, but right now his call to duty is his primary objective. What is your character’s favorite tool? (sword, pickaxe, shovel, etc): Sword What is one of your Character's most skilled talents? Defense (if that is valid?) A screenshot of your skin (must be in proper format): Note that I removed the helmet from the original skin, so the skin on the right is what I will look like. Other Information about your Character: Open-Response-Questions Whilst traveling from the Cloud Temple you see a small halfling, being harassed by two armed warriors. They appear to be trying to steal money from him, how does your character respond? Thorvald quickly moves in to assess the situation and to try to peacefully work something out. The warriors explain that the halfling stole from their camp grounds, and that they wanted him to pay up. I asked the halfling if this was true, and he confirmed their story. "I only took some bread to feed my family." said the halfling. "You can't take what isn't yours!" shouted the angry warrior. I offered to cover the cost of the bread if they let the halfling go, and, to Thorvald's surprise, they did. With only a few cuts and bruises, the halfling made it home safely. Your character wanders into Alras, and comes across a small stall, behind which a well dressed man is standing. He’s offering various wares, the merchant turns to you and says in a posh accent " 'ello there, what can I do you for today?" What is your character response? Thorvald responds "Not looking to purchase anything today, but I was curious to know how business was doing?" The man stutters "Business? Business... business is doing good! Enough small talk, are you sure you don't want to take a look at my wares?" "Well, come to think of it, do you happen to have any rope? My father has been looking to build a well back home." I said. "Rope? Do I look like I sell rope? I sell more expensive merchandise than rope, such as this ruby here, are you interested?" he asked. "No thanks," I said in a calm manner. "Maybe I'll come back another day." Whilst wandering in the wilds, your character comes across a small hut, which looks abandoned. Inside it you see a chest containing a few iron bars, and a golden sword. How would your character respond?: Thorvald glimpses over at the possibly abandoned items, but says to himself "How would I like it if I came back to my house and my belongings were missing!" So he stayed in the shelter of the hut until the storm calmed down, and then he continued on his walk. Hungry and lost in the wilderness, you stumble across a small trading camp nestled among the forest, they greet you in the common tongue, how do you respond? "Well hello there," I said to the men. "I am famished and looking for a place to rest my body for the night, may I set up camp here?" The traders respond kindly "But of course! We have fresh apples and we just cooked up some pork, care to join us?" "I would love to!" I exclaimed. The group of men shared stories for the rest of the night, and in the morning Thorvald asked the men for directions to the nearest town. "About an eighth of a days walk that way, next to the big ol' mountain." one man stated. "Can't miss it!" I thanked the man and compensated the traders for their hospitality before setting off on my walk to the nearest settlement. You hear word that bandits occupy the road outside the town in which you have been staying. The town guard have gathered, and are asking for assistance to help eliminate them. The leader of the party is offering a reward for any who offer their support. How does your character act on this information?: Thorvald approaches the man and offers his assistance in any way that he can. "Put that sword to good use and hold them off!" The guard exclaims. I did as I was ordered, and we successfully thwarted off the incoming attack. After everything settled down, the captain of the guard invited Thorvald to the local inn to celebrate with the rest of the guards. Thorvald couldn't say no, and so he accepts the kind offer, and they spend the afternoon dancing and singing songs of courage and joy. Once they were finished celebrating, Thorvald was just about to leave and the captain reminded him about his reward, which Thorvald quickly turned down stating that "I help others out of the kindness of my heart, not because I want your coin." And he continued walking.
