Out-Of-Character

Minecraft Account Name:

Empirarte

How old are you?:

16

Time-Zone/Country of Residence:

Chicago (UTC -6:00) Central Standard Time

Do you have a good grip on the English language/good grammar?:

It's my first language and I write it in everyday.

Small 2-3 Sentence Description of yourself:

I'm an atypical teenager who enjoys reading, gaming, and other worlds with a great amount of depth and universal themes that can connect to our world. I quite enjoy philosophical or political discussions, learning languages, and have traveled through many places throughout the world.

How much time could you be on the server weekly?:

I'd say 10 hours a week with school work and other extra-curricular activities.

What do you know about Roleplaying? Give a definition of what it means to you:

Roleplaying is the imitation of and impersonation of a fictional character that one has created and is continuing to develop as they further play out the episode. Not just improvisation, the character being developed should be logically consistent in their actions and personality as well as thinking. By taking on other roles, can we not only have fun but understand what life might be like in someone else's shoes or how they might think.

What experience have you had in Roleplaying, if any?:

I've done a variety of roleplaying from IRC chat roleplay to MMO (Runescape or the Old Republic) and when I'm in some singleplayer RPGs I try to be a part of the world that I am in as an actual person in the game by walking around and doing pointless things that AI might do.

In your own Words, define what the act of Meta-Gaming is:

Meta-gaming is essentially breaking the fourth wall by giving your character knowledge or advice that he ordinarily would not be able to know without some form of divine revelation. Characters are limited by their perspective and cannot be omniscient.

In your own Words, define what the act of Power-Gaming is:

Power Gaming is a very serious roleplaying violation and consists of giving yourself the most progress or power you can usually by taking away from other players. Others will always be set back by powergaming. Examples can include one player killing another without warning or one player stripping another player of all they have, and taking on their identity. All in all, powergaming is giving yourself unwarranted advantage over other players like getting to see everyone else's cards in poker.

What do you expect this server will be like?:

From the little I've played on it as a ghost, I expect that it will be an immsersive world with races and cultures based on Tolkien-esque ideas and Middle Earth; however, Lord of the Craft has its own lore and topography. I also hope there will be a RPG level-up system accompanied with a complex economy both of which I enjoy. I also expect a mature and friendly community to be there who are neither judgemental or inappropriate.

What other server(s) have you played on and why did you leave them?:

I've played on five or six servers in the past. The RPG servers being Herocraft, which I left a year ago because I had too little time then, CivRP which was a little too empty for my liking, and right now I'm doing CNation but I prefer having a level-up system.

Have you read, understood, and agreed to the rules?:

Yes.

Do you promise to abide by said rules, and laws? This includes the Server, Forum, and Teamspeak set Rules:

Of course.

How did you hear about us?:

Minecraft forums and Gamefront's top 10 Minecraft servers

Have you voted for the Lord of the Craft on Minestatus? Which vote number were you?:

Yes: 3609

In-Character:

Character Name:

Balator

What Race are you?:

Dwarf

What Sub-Race are you? (note, you aren’t required to have a sub-race):

Biography (Please make this at least 2 paragraphs long. This must include the history of your character and his life as well as age, appearance and personality, etc.):

Short, stocky, and bearded like nearly all dwarves, Balator's long red hair clashes with his eyes that burn with the fire of what his father calls gems and his mother the stars. Although he is big-boned compared to a man, he is a little bit slim for a dwarf. Standing a few inches taller than most of his kind, Balator has been self-conscious of his height which makes other prejudiced dwarves treat him with scorn. Balator was born into a family that had once been well-to-do but upon the Dwarven departure from Aegis, lost much of their standing and wealth; the only remaining heirloom they had was an elegant set of armor supposedly crafted during King Charles' reign. Balator always wanted to bring power, glory, and riches not only to his own family but the Dwarven people as a whole. The one luxury his parents could afford to give Balator was a tutor, a scholarly old man, no less. Despite the contempt Balator had for his tutor he learned several things from him which most noticeably is his speech which is refined and not dwarf-like in the slightest. Inspired by his history lessons, Balator continued to nurse his ambition throughout his adolescence seeing the shame through which King Thorik was murdered and the decrepit state of the Dwarves in general. Having come of age just recently he left his home in Karik and now seeks his own way out in the world his only practical skill s being mining and arithmetic.

Still trying to decide whether to seek power through politics or guilds, Balator is still looking around. He knows the army is now an option due to his squeamishness at blood and would be a better banker or councillor than general not only because of this but also since he is charismatic. He is not much of a bookish type as he is filled with the fire of late adolescence and thinks only of earthly things, however this may change as he ages. Balator is nearly nineteen and has the energy of such youth in nearly everything he does. While he usually keeps to himself, he will be outgoing if he sees some opportunity to get himself some money or other reward. He is also very pragmatic and utilitarian seeing things only for their use at the moment. His blindness in this regard will lose him friends and integrity, but he cares very little.

What is your Character's ambitions?:

His goal is to gain as much power and money as he can in order to bring the Dwarven people to glory.

What is your character’s favorite tool? (sword, pickaxe, shovel, etc):

Pickaxe.

What is one of your Character's most skilled talents?

Unlike most other dwarves, Balator is persuasive and has a good sense of charisma.

Other Information about your Character:

He does enjoy a good beer every now and again.

Open-Response-Questions

Whilst traveling from the Cloud Temple you see a small halfling, being harassed by two armed warriors. They appear to be trying to steal money from him, how does your character respond?

Balator, playing his cards right, approaches the two tall men with a scheme wrapping around in his head. Greeting them with a normal "Hail", he calmly asks them how much this crime means to them. In the awkward silence that follows for a few seconds, the larger of the two men yells, "Scram, maggot, unless you want your head hanging on my wall tonight." Taken aback, Balator shakes his head, "Are you aware I am scouting for a dwarf patrol that will be upon us at any moment. If they can't find me, then they'll send all their swiftest foot-soldiers to hunt down any troubling forces in the area. Now I could report the fair amount of money, which may I add we Dwarves are really fond of, you have right here, or given a small slice of what this good halfling has, I can continue along my way and maybe point out a safe place to wait while my force walks by."

Your character wanders into Alras, and comes across a small stall, behind which a well dressed man is standing. He’s offering various wares, the merchant turns to you and says in a posh accent " 'ello there, what can I do you for today?" What is your character response?

"My, my, what have we here? These are some fine-looking stones you've got here, how much could I take them off your hands for." said the artful Balator ready to turn a profit off of this merchant who replied, "I do believe they'd be two hundred minas apiece." Feigning astonishment Balator would talk to the merchant as if he were correcting a child, "Now, friend, this is Alras, I bet I could get larger gems for less than two hundred. You're running a scandal here. Now take it from a dwarf, you've got to keep a good price if you want to remain creditable, so I request you sell that small purple one and dull red one for one twenty each. Now you'll be missing some minas if you don't give me a deal that I'd like."

Whilst wandering in the wilds, your character comes across a small hut, which looks abandoned. Inside it you see a chest containing a few iron bars, and a golden sword. How would your character respond?:

Slapping his knee with excitement, Balator quickly checks around the room for a sign of anyone, pauses for a few seconds to hear if anyone is coming and slips the gold sword into his bag along with three of the six iron bars. "I don't want to risk coming back or carrying more than I'd be able to so you get to keep three of them just because I'm a nice guy. But in the future, don't leave all your stuff unguarded, not good thinking in general." With a snicker, Balator skips out of the house and on his way to the nearest market unable to believe his luck.

Hungry and lost in the wilderness, you stumble across a small trading camp nestled among the forest, they greet you you in the common tongue, how do you respond?

Feeling the biting greed of his stomach overpower him, Balator tries to keep himself from collapsing before he can use his tongue to work out a deal for himself. Approaching to one of the traders who appears to have some authority within the camp, "Excuse me, sir, but may I be of service to you and your men, you do seem to have an awful lot on your hands and a dwarf has a magic with money after all." The man spat disdainfully at Balator's feet, "Yeah, you have a magic alright, stealing and embezzlyment. That's what you midgets are good at." Offended at this slight, Balator smirks, "You've got it all wrong, friend, now why would I steal from traders in the midst of their own camp, I'm not agile like an elf am I? I'm the kind of guy who makes sure you're getting your money's worth from every deal, that's who you need. So maybe I can help you out for a little bit?"

You hear word that bandits occupy the road outside the town in which you have been staying. The town guard have gathered, and are asking for assistance to help eliminate them. The leader of the party is offering a reward for any who offer their support. How does your character act on this information?:

Balator realized the potential rewards he might get from not only helping the town guard but also swiping a few things from the bandits. While they spread out along the road, Balator lingered near the back where he'd be safest if any fighting broke out. A little flustered at the thought of combat, he walked along the muddy road in the rain when shouts broke out and before he knew it, Balator was following his fellow soldiers up the side of a nearby hill. Snapping into action, he slipped around the hill which the fighting took place on and joined a few hidden rangers on the back who were attempting to enter the camp. Nodding to the office silently, Balator followed them through the camp, stuffing not his pockets but his clothes with random treasure he could find, fully aware his pockets might be searched later. All went well, and as he expected the commander had everyone turn out their pockets before handing a small payment to each volunteer including Balator who was relieved he had to participate in no fighting.

Accepted~

Your quality makes up for the mistake you've made - you may not steal - at all - without a villain application, and you also may not tell major lie without one either. I will let it slide this time, just remember that when you are playing!
