hex37 737 Share Posted April 24, 2012 Out-Of-Character Minecraft Account Name: hex37 How old are you?: 19 Time-Zone/Country of Residence: EST/USA Do you have a good grip on the English language/good grammar?: Very. Small 2-3 Sentence Description of yourself: I'm currently a college student attending a university in Boston. Mechanical engineering major. My primary focus for my characters is to make them truly believable to other people. How much time could you be on the server weekly?: If I turn out to like this server, I can be on QUITE FREQUENTLY. I'm sort of a Minecraft addict. What do you know about Roleplaying? Give a definition of what it means to you: Roleplaying is a method of telling a story with many people at once. Good roleplay is when you can successfully build a believable story with the people you're around. The best kind of roleplay only happens in a very fleeting moment, where for a split second, the entire scene happening in game seems nearly real. What experience have you had in Roleplaying, if any?: I have several years of acting in middle school and High school, and have also played on the Ragnarok role playing server. In your own Words, define what the act of Meta-Gaming is: Metagaming is when you take knowledge you couldn't possibly know in character and acting upon it, breaking the fourth wall and usually generating HORRIBLE RP. In your own Words, define what the act of Power-Gaming is: Powergaming happens when you try to force your version of a scenario on another player. Usually, this devolves into a very shitty "NUH UH, YUH HUNH" scenario not uncommon on kindergarten playgrounds all across the world. What do you expect this server will be like?: Hopefully it will be a good place with a wide variety of players for my character to interact with. I can imagine that a con man on a server will have to be running away, and often. What other server(s) have you played on and why did you leave them?: I've played on the Nations at war server, but I left because the PVP outweighed the role play and building. Also, I've played on the Ragnarok RP server, but I haven't left them yet! Have you read, understood, and agreed to the rules?: Yes. Do you promise to abide by said rules, and laws? This includes the Server, Forum, and Teamspeak set Rules: I promise. How did you hear about us?: Someone mentioned it in their app on the Ragnarok server's application thread. Have you previously made an Application? If so could you link us to your last Application?:I haven't made an application on this server before. Have you posted this application on our minecraft forum thread yet? If not, just finish it up on here and then copy + paste is over there. (http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/832121-%E2%96%91%E2%96%92%E2%96%93-the-lord-of-the-craft-%E2%96%93%E2%96%92%E2%96%91-enter-the-world-of-asulon-o-f-f-i-c-i-a-l-l-y-t-h-e-n-o-1-r-p-s-e-r-v-e-r/):You got it! In-Character: Character Name: Devin "Devry" Ryder What Race are you?: Human What Sub-Race are you? (note, you aren’t required to have a sub-race): N/A Biography (Please make this at least 2 paragraphs long. This must include the history of your character and his life as well as age, appearance and personality, etc.): You see a man walk into the room. He looks like he's in his late twenties. What he's wearing is exactly what you'd expect him to wear for someone of his profession. Usually, he will be wearing a hat that does it's best to shade his bright yellow eyes. If you have ever seen a man fitting this description, it may have been Devin "Devry" Ryder. Devry is an ambitious businessman with an investment opportunity you can't pass up. Devry is the new courier who is supposed to pick up the new shipment of armor you just ordered. Devry *ahem* Devin Ryder the third, I mean, is a wealthy aristocrat who happens to be selling his land for cheap and has a great deal for you. Confused yet? Devry isn't. "Devry" (A shortening of his full name, DEVin RYder) has made an entire lifestyle out of being able to look and sound like all these things, and many more. He's a con man, by nature and trade, and a pretty damn good one. To him, putting on a different persona is as easy as putting on a different pair of shoes. The only thing that shows through his multitude of masks is his ambition, which is always looking for a new deal. Devry's REAL identity is something he tries his damnedest to keep under wraps, even though there isn't much to it. Devry is merely a 28 year-old university drop-out who spent more time messing around with some cohorts of his than actually pursuing education. Once his scholarship ran out, he used the few skills he picked up in his education to start up a life of conning people. He wasn't exactly proud of it, at first. But he was far to indignant a little bastard back then to do otherwise. His first attempt failed miserably. He had to skip town after that bungle. The second time, however, he managed to pick up a shipment of iron that was supposed to go into the town he just had to run out of. Instead of riding off to a certain hanging, Devry went in the opposite direction, sold it in the next town over, pocketed the all of the money and never looked back. To Devry, there are two kinds of people: cohorts and suckers. Cohorts are the people who help him with his operations. They're the ones who keep his dealings smooth and the profits large. It's also the closest thing Devry has to a friend, though he knows all too well that if things get heated he can discard them in an instant. Everyone else? Suckers. When not working, Devry prefers to be around more intelligent people. Knowledge is power, and if time has taught Devry anything, it's that eggheads like to talk all the time. As for actual cohorts, Devry prefers the craftier sort, but is equally fine working with plain muscle, so long as they can do what they're paid for. Few things make a deal go over quite like a massive man looming behind you, punching the palm of his hand, slowly. What is your Character's ambitions?: Devin wants to make it big, as fast as possible. He doesn't care how he gets it as long as it doesn't get killed trying. He often dreams about big league cons, and making enough money to live the rest of his life in luxury. What is your character’s favorite tool? (sword, pickaxe, shovel, etc): Money. Flashing a bit of cash can make the suckers flock to you like a magpie to a silver coin, and make them putty in your hands once they're nice and close. What is one of your Character's most skilled talents? Devry is a master of persuasion. At least, he thinks he is. He can certainly talk eloquently, but his hubris sometimes keeps him from convincing people enough. A screenshot of your skin (must be in proper format): Other Information about your Character: I'm planning on making this character a villain once I've been on for an (elven? that something special?) week, as per the villain application rule. On my honor, I won't do any of the cheating or deception practically integrated with my character until that passes. Devry isn't bad at disguises, but he is no master. No matter what he wears, his skin tone, hair color and eye color will always be the same. If my villain app is denied, and I still like the role play of this server, I have some plans for him to go straight. Ideally, I'll have him shift to a merchant/think tank of some sort. If my villain app gets accepted, I realize it will probably be disadvantageous to myself, especially if I do my cons properly. Devin actually requires interaction with other people to be deceptive. Getting cut off from those interactions by wanted posters or straight up exile could easily get him in a tight spot. Devin isn't very good at being violent. Open-Response-Questions Whilst traveling from the Cloud Temple you see a small halfling, being harassed by two armed warriors. They appear to be trying to steal money from him, how does your character respond? The first thing Devry would do is cuss under his breath. He'd have to get his coat dirty to pull off this scam. Still, it'd be totally worth it. He'd drop his coat on the side of the road, place his prized fedora lightly atop it, roll up the sleeves of his undershirt and ruffle his hair slightly. As an afterthought, he'd get a little fresh dirt on his cheeks, to give himself that worn look common to a bandit living in the countryside. Finally, after prepping himself properly, he'd get their attention. Predictably, they'll ask what the **** he wants. Devery would identify them vaguely as the two guys he heard were hanging around cloud temple. Using some knowledge he picked up about one of the larger raiding parties in the area, Devry would then tell him that those guys were buildin up for somethin big and were havin him look around for some muscle (they weren't.) He'd then ask if those two guys would like to be that muscle. Asking for a monetary finder's fee (about the amount halfling had on him), he'd then direct the two bandits to a very, very fake meetup point "where this recruitment stuff was going down." After getting the two thugs to leave, he'd then give the halfling about half of his money back, and tell him to be thankful that Ole Devry came along. The halfling would think he was a smug chap, the bandits would want him to be a dead chap (even though they'd never find him,) and Devry would get to pocket half of the halfling's cash. Your character wanders into Alras, and comes across a small stall, behind which a well dressed man is standing. He’s offering various wares, the merchant turns to you and says in a posh accent " 'ello there, what can I do you for today?" What is your character response? Devery proffers a hand. "Nice to meet you good sir, I'm [fake name], traveling businessman and entrepreneur." Naturally, the merchant would shake his hand, possibly a tad tentatively, put off by Devry's forwardness. While this happened, Devry would take a brief looking over of the wares around him. "I was just passing through the area and I need to get some excess wares off my wagon. How would you be interested in a few exotic blades to spruce up your shop? Straight from Haelun'or." Devery, of course, would have no such blades from no such elven city. What he WOULD have would be some very shoddy wall-mounted swords that were intended for decoration, rather than use. Regardless, he'd play up the price exponentially, and if he could goad the shopkeeper right, make at least two times what he paid for it. Whilst wandering in the wilds, your character comes across a small hut, which looks abandoned. Inside it you see a chest containing a few iron bars, and a golden sword. How would your character respond?: Devry isn't used to stealing without a willing sucker nearby to trick, but he'd still steal all of it, then sell it at the next town he got to, except maybe the sword. He'd at least get to the next town over before selling any identifiable merchandise. Hungry and lost in the wilderness, you stumble across a small trading camp nestled among the forest, they greet you you in the common tongue, how do you respond? Not even Devry can put up a scam all the time, but sometimes he can at least make out even. Once again discarding his coat and hat, he'd try to rip his (cheap) undershirt a little, give himself a few cuts and bruises, and generally make himself look like he was out there for days. Once he'd achieved a properly melodramatic getup, he'd wander straight into the camp and collapse. Naturally, these being traders and not thieves, Devry would most likely wake up in a bed. As he quite happily ate their food, he'd warn them about the (nonexistent) bandits in the area. He'd very meekly offer to pay, but he'd know that in all likelihood they'd deny any sort of payment. You hear word that bandits occupy the road outside the town in which you have been staying. The town guard have gathered, and are asking for assistance to help eliminate them. The leader of the party is offering a reward for any who offer their support. How does your character act on this information?: Where there's a fight, there's also money to be made, and some butts to brown nose. Surprisingly, Devry would approach the guards this time, and offer a solution in return for some gold. Even the most hardened criminal can benefit from being on the good side of the authority. His solution would be simple. First, he would approach the bandits and sell out some muscle to them for the fight. This "muscle" would actually be guardsmen dressed up in some less official armor.(Devry would sell the armor to the guard for the occasion. Naturally they'd be of low quality and high price, but they'd all be specially marked so that the bandits would know them as HIS thugs and the guards would know them as THEIR guards.) When the guard finally goes off to fight the bandits, the ones disguised as thugs would take up the fight with them from within the bandit's group. Chaos in the bandit's ranks would ensue, the guards would win the day, and Devry would make off with both a tidy sum of gold and the guard's good graces. Alan 1815 Share Posted April 25, 2012 Please reapply in 24 hours. Although I appreciate how you know the rules for villainous characters and villain applications starting after an elven week (Elven represents IRL, so an elven week is one in real life week), you still based your entire application off of a villainous character. Who is to say that after you write your villain application, it won't be denied, and your character will be lost? Although this is clearly what you want your character to be, you still have to answer the open response questions and write your biography in a way that doesn't allow for villainous activities. Also, this server is open to any roleplayer of any age, so for that reason we do not allow cursing. I honestly recommend that you do an overhaul of your application to accommodate for the easily fixable errors that I presented you with, as other than those the app was very well written. I'm sure you VA would be accepted if you wrote it as well as this.
