Out-Of-Character

Minecraft Account Name:

Minoriko

How old are you?:

Twenty

Time-Zone/Country of Residence:

GMT +0/United Kingdom

Do you have a good grip on the English language/good grammar?:

I consider myself to be able to talk fluently. However I make mistakes as often as everyone else.

Small 2-3 Sentence Description of yourself:

I have been born in a land of rolling hills, old redbrick factories and overcast, more commonly known as the United Kingdom. I am currently a student at university studying environmental health on my second year. Avid video game and roleplayer.

How much time could you be on the server weekly?:

I am capable of playing for large amounts of time during the week and weekends, so long as I have no urgent tasks or work to be done. Typically European friendly times but also long into the night.

What do you know about Roleplaying? Give a definition of what it means to you:

I consider roleplaying a form of acting, not much different from reading a script from a play. Instead of reading a script you and whoever you are roleplaying with are acting freeform, creating the script as it happens to suit the situation your character faces and how he would face them. This of course allows for all sorts of great tales and adventures to be created. You could say that all video games are roleplay, the first person shooters where you fight as nameless trooper to being the ruler of a civilzation. Of course those are examples of a much lighter form of roleplay.

What experience have you had in Roleplaying, if any?:

I have taken part of many RP focused games in the past, including Space Station 13, ARMA 2 and what have you. Several minecraft servers i had joined prior had some light roleplay occuring. If it adds anything I had also taken creative writing in college. While not direct roleplay, it does add a sense of how to create a story.

In your own Words, define what the act of Meta-Gaming is:

Meta-Gaming is the use of exterally aquired information that affects the actions of an in game character. This along with power-gaming is frowned upon by all RP groups i have came across in all games. An example of this I had seen from experience would be two people communicating via external sources to share information they had seen while not together. These characters had no ingame way to communicate to each other and had been sharing vital infomation reguarding locations of items, thus this was meta-gaming.

In your own Words, define what the act of Power-Gaming is:

Power-gaming is the use of limiting the other roleplayers ability to react to a situation. An example of this would be instead of your character attempting to swing a sword towards a player, a power-gamers sword would of taken his arm off. Another thing would be characters that are overpowered and cannot die since they suddenly made up a story about secretly being a demon.

What do you expect this server will be like?:

In short, a blocky version of an epic on going tale. I would really like to take part in this story as it develops, no matter how small my role.

What other server(s) have you played on and why did you leave them?:

I have been on several servers in minecraft some of which could be described as 'light roleplay'. Many of these featured towns or nations and interaction between them. Some of these servers I left after the majority of the population no longer visited, the server owners closed them down or they failed to be updated.

Have you read, understood, and agreed to the rules?:

I have read them and agreed.

Do you promise to abide by said rules, and laws? This includes the Server, Forum, and Teamspeak set Rules:

I shall obey the rules and law for all of the above and use common sense for anything missing.

How did you hear about us?:

From a friend. Waffenbaum/Torvald.

Have you previously made an Application? If so could you link us to your last Application?:

This would be my first application.

In-Character:

Character Name:

Whurval Pebbledash

What Race are you?:

Dwarf

What Sub-Race are you? (note, you aren’t required to have a sub-race):

None

Biography (Please make this at least 2 paragraphs long. This must include the history of your character and his life as well as age, appearance and personality, etc.):

Whurval was the youngest of three bothers, born into a proud dwarven family of craftsmen and artisans. While his two older brothers had been blessed with the natural dwarven skills of mining and smithing, Whurval had to be taught by the belt for his. A son who could not craft to the standard of his forefathers was a disgrace. His weak body had to be trained by hard labour, shovelling coal into the furnaces so his brothers may practise the more refined arts for weeks on end. While this may seem cruel to Whurval, the families harsh training did give Whurval the physical strenght needed to function in the labour intensive dwarven society. While Whurval was forced to toughen up, his mind would weaken as the price. Fear and cowardice began to seep into his mind, his actions skittish and even more so around those in authority. It was the dreaded thought of having to return to such physical hardships and the possible rewards that came with strict obedience.

In his later years, Whurval had improved his skills and frail body and had begun working as an artisan within his families workshop. With great care, nimble fingers and learnt skill, Whurval would cut the finest gems to be encrusted within his brothers larger works. While the typical dwarf was content in an outfit that is practical and fit for use, Whurval dresses in clothes he has imported via the merchant carvans that often sell his families wares. While Whruvals clothing is cared for diligently, his poor beard suffers. It is not much of a beard as it is a tangled web of hair attachted to his face entrapping his rather plump facial features behind it. The only self grooming it would receive was a trim to not block view of the clothing.

Eventually it was time for the three brothers to leave home and gain skills that only the world can teach. For the best artisans always seek to learn new skills from other families it was a family tradition for these brothers to form new branches of the family, each carrying on the trade. Each brother gathered their tools, said their goodbyes and ventured into the world.

What is your Character's ambitions?:

A humble yet easy life is what most common men desire, as does he. While great wealth and fortune may always be desired, Whurval is content enough to settle for second best. Just enough to get by and afford to eat decent and better than most, but not the best cuts of red meat.

What is your character’s favorite tool? (sword, pickaxe, shovel, etc):

In times of peace and if forced, the handy all puropse shovel, Whurval's childhood. In times of war, the longest spear available.

What is one of your Character's most skilled talents?

Having hailed from a family of artisan blacksmiths, Whurval had been taught at a young age to shape gems or metals into fine jewellery. A talent and perfection for the best aestheticly pleasing shape a humble bar of gold could offer. The skills and nimble fingers required to cuts gems also proved to be of use in tailoring. Whurval may sometimes be seen in his home knitting.

Other Information about your Character:

Hailing from a noble family has given Whurval a rather pompous attitude when dealing with people he considers to be of lower social status then himself. He is also suspicious of people devoted to combat and fighting. ''What could drive a man to enjoy such horrors?''

Open-Response-Questions

Whilst traveling from the Cloud Temple you see a small halfling, being harassed by two armed warriors. They appear to be trying to steal money from him, how does your character respond?

Unsure of the sight of rather vicious looking armed men ahead, Whurval advances cautiously down the path avoiding eye contact. The sounds of the laughing men and whimpering halfling fade away. Whurval halts and faces the warriors, nerves getting the better of him. ''Do not mind me.. No, just passing by!'' Whurval nervously laughs and rubs his beard in anxiety. Becoming even more fearful of this situation, Whurval dashes down the road in fright.

Your character wanders into Alras, and comes across a small stall, behind which a well dressed man is standing. He’s offering various wares, the merchant turns to you and says in a posh accent " 'ello there, what can I do you for today?" What is your character response?

Whurval strokes some of the leather seen on display closing his eyes as if to focus more on his sense of touch. ''Ah, the buttersoft touch of this leather... Simply glorious!''. Whurval's eyes open as his face explodes with a radiant emotion of joy. ''Truely your goods are of the finest quality! Such soft leather would be useful to line the inside of a noble's helment or maybe a kings!''. An amused grin can be seen under his twisted mess of a beard. ''Now then sir!''. Rests a palm on the oaken stand and leans forward towards the merchant.''You have materials, but do you have the bartering skills to possess such a fine item?''.

Whilst wandering in the wilds, your character comes across a small hut, which looks abandoned. Inside it you see a chest containing a few iron bars, and a golden sword. How would your character respond?:

Whurval lifts the blade by hilt and gently runs his palm down the swords surface, an artisan had been trained to judge an item by touch as well as its visual value. Statisfied he lowers the blade back into the chest.''Hmm, a blunted ornimental golden sword along with other valuables stored away in a shack?''. The dwarf lets out a sigh and closes the chests lid. ''Another proud craftsman's creation stolen away by bandits''.

Hungry and lost in the wilderness, you stumble across a small trading camp nestled among the forest, they greet you you in the common tongue, how do you respond?

Whurval covers his mouth with his clenched fist and lets out a throat clearing cough. ''Ah yes good sirs! Fortune seems to smile on me this day!''. The dwarf kneels down and fumbles with his belongings in search of something he is willing to give up in exchange for a loaf of bread, maybe a cup of mead too. ''Give me a second gentlemen... I am sure i have something here to barter with...''.

You hear word that bandits occupy the road outside the town in which you have been staying. The town guard have gathered, and are asking for assistance to help eliminate them. The leader of the party is offering a reward for any who offer their support. How does your character act on this information?:

Whurval gathers with the crowd of onlookers as the guard rally townsfolk. ''Humpf, these guardsmen honestly want farmhands and millers to help them perform a job they are paid for?'' Whurval waves it off and lets out a disapproving tsk. ''I remeber when people performed their own jobs before giving up and plead to others for help. But bandits on the road? I suppose you'd better sign me up for another night in the room''.
