System Of Land Control And Improvements

Levanthus is the land in which the City-States rest, derived from a foreign language to adhere to the position it lies; the East. The few and growing number of City-States springing forth are ones marked with distinct culture, distinct trades within each; and an experimental touch of realism that may attract players to role-play as different and varied professions; each contributing to the open market economy found within Levanthus and with neighbors and nations afar. Levanthus addresses their strengths and weaknesses from their derived culture by having open trade with one another in the form of a Mutual Trade Pact. Such is how the Subudai, nomads across the mighty plains in westerly directions are able to be able to bring in minerals and ingots used to fashion finely tuned Tabar Axes, Falxes, and various distinct weaponry; while giving forth their skilled fletchers to supply other City-States necessary bows and arrows for fortified defenses.

There are ground rules to be had for each City-State, enforced primarily by the Subudain Horde. If a Kotansmani finds that Enismor for example holds a mine in the middle of their suburban districts, the Khagan will be alerted of this and will request such to be dissembled out of fear of magic being abused to force nature to accept what he logically cannot. Instead, land control measures are put in place to allow City-States to build for their certain trades and allow unique goods to flow from each City-State. With this in mind, lands that are not in proximity with any of the City-States may be gained through purchase and negotiation to be allowed to have improvements built upon it; depending on terrain.

~List of Land Improvements~

- Mines: The hollowing of the earth provided much minerals, ores, and therein find coal and various gems of value. Mines require sturdy structure and reinforcement to disavow collapse.

Allowed Biomes/Regions: Mountain, Hill

Allowed Biomes/Regions: Flatland, Plains

- Quarries: The removal of rock facets to retrieve cleanly hewn stone. Such quarries are rare, but will ensure that proper stone is supplied nonetheless.

Allowed Biomes/Regions: Open-air rock formations [This will only allow one or two quarries]

[OOC: Note: Quarries will be under strict watch, if it seems to be borderline land-scarring, it will be filled in and shut down.]

- Plantations: The finely woven vines of pumpkins, melons grow along wooden platforms to anchor them. Reeds line the fresh spring water that these plantations use to give birth to the finest fruit and eventually pressed into the finest wines.

Allowed Biomes/Regions: Flatlands, Riversides, Hills

- Wells: Necessary land improvements that enable crossing through the desert, the water-tables under the vast deserts can be broken into and wells drawn up; water sprung forth as a response.

Allowed Biomes/Regions: Deserts

- Sawmill: One simply does not turn wood into sticks, to cut and hew wood into necessary sizes for building supplies and polearms; a mill is necessary. Felling timber can be an easier task if one had an axe handle to grab onto and swing with.

Allowed Biomes/Regions: Forests, Flatland

- Wharfs: It would be dangerous and pitiful the catch one would fish for at a mercantile or military port. Wharfs are designed to be places where fishermen can dock and sail from in search of catches of scores of fish of different types.

Allowed Biomes/Region: Ocean, Sea, Lake

- Gristmill: Just because you pulled grains of wheat from the earth does not mean one can simply smash it together and make a loaf of bread. Gristmills were where grain and corn could be taken to have it fashioned into powder that would be involved in dough and thus allowing bread to be baked. Bakeries can be located near a Gristmill.

Allowed Biomes/Region: Forest, Flatland, Riverside, Hill, Mountain

- Pasture: We need not let the animals messy up our farmlands, should we? Pastures are open tracts of land that livestock can roam about and feed from.

Allowed Biomes/Region: Flatland, Plains

[OOC: Note: You are allowed to create roofing for certain pastures, so long as it is of smaller acreage. Trolls and Lightning killing and allowing Pigmen to come about may cause problems which we will avoid.]

~City-State Land Ownership~

Each City-State [Didymo, Enismor, etc.] is allowed land approximated by the population it has currently. The gaining of citizenry allows the 'sphere of control' to expand, earning that City-State land that it's own government through it's structure can maintain and handle without outside influence whatsoever. Though, if a land improvement is built unrealistically, magic may be suspect and the Subudain Horde will interrogate how it is able to function. NO LAND IMPROVEMENTS may be within suburban areas of the City-State nor enclosed in it's walls. Battlements and defensive structures are able to be built within the City-State however.

The current map shows approximation of spheres of control. Albeit the Subudai have a larger sphere, they are more inclined to allow land improvements to be built nearby. In terms of attempts to build land improvements for a Levanthusan' Citizen; there are two ways.

A. Appeal for a Delegation of Common Citizenry:

Such a route is taken in which you feel strongly that a certain tract of land would be best used for a certain land improvement and your character is one who is strong at persuasion. Appealing to your leader or Sauros Alanbataar will cause either two to raffle for a jury of citizens. These able-minded citizens will then hear out your plea for the land and if the majority votes in approval; your delegation will succeed and you will be personally responsible for upkeep and maintaining the land and gaining workers to build.

B. Payment

Appealing to the City-State closest to the tract of land you desire and promises of payment will guarantee such land, the pricing will be set soon.

Have you an appeal to make for Common Delegation, post it here, we will attempt to find a time suitable to Roleplay a delegation; if all fails then Forum Roleplay it shall be. Any suggestions for 'unique Land Improvements' can be sent via Private Message to 'Gaius Marius'.

((I assume that Boria's sphere of control would only be that which its walls encompass, seeing as how we are currently hurting for citizens?))
