Do you have a good grip on the English language/good grammar?:

Short answer: Yes.

Longer answer: I'd like to believe I do. Of course, being Australian I do tend to use Australian English which has some minor differences in spelling to American English. And I'm always a little worried about using semi-colons as I fear I might use them incorrectly. I think it's just when you have a list within a list or to separate the beginning of a list from the actual list itself. Fortunately, the situation rarely comes up in casual writing/roleplaying.

Small 2-3 Sentence Description of yourself:

I'm a librarian, tending towards government contract work. I'm usually reading fantasy and science-fiction stories with some crime, history and autobiographical items intermixed. Some of my favourite bands/artists are Mumford and Sons, Rammstein and Björk as well as sundry others. Oh, and the Clockwork Quartet!

How much time could you be on the server weekly?:

It's hard to state a specific range as my availability depends on random events in the outside world and personal mood. At a rough guess I'd say...between 5 and 10 hours possibly ranging through to 20 at the maximum.

How long have you played minecraft?:

Around about a month? I'll admit I haven't really given that much attention to the timeframe.

What do you know about roleplaying?:

I know about the differences between in-character and out-of-character; I know about godmodding, metagaming, powergaming, casual/heavy roleplay styles.

I'm aware of common errors in roleplaying as well as common archtypes

I've roleplayed on the AdventureQuest forums several years back as well as in a number of MMORPGs and a couple of MUDs. (City of Heroes, World of Warcraft, Rift, Warhammer Online and Achaea as well as one or two I've likely forgotten about.)

What do you expect this server will be like?:

I'm fairly sure it'll involve less random killings than the Herocraft server, fewer accusations of moderator abuse than other, unnamed servers, less floating trees/structures than most other servers and, of course, infinitely more roleplaying than other servers.

What other server(s) have you played on and why did you leave them?:

• [*:22za6m68]Beyond Horizon for a couple of weeks. I left that server for two reasons. a) There's been several accusations of moderator abuse and improper behaviour which have led to the forums having an unpleasant feel to them lately. :) They're switching to a new map when 1.8 comes out so there's little motivation to actually stay there.[*:22za6m68]Herocraft for a few days. I left that server because of the chance of random murder and feeling of constant danger that I experienced while on it.

Biography:

Payon La Trobe is the youngest of four male children in a farming family. His father is a wheat farmer and his mother an adventuring mage who fell in love with his father after saving the farm from a swarm of spiders.

With three older brothers he was required to do far less farmwork than a farmer's child might normally have expected, instead spending his younger years being tutored by his mother from an extensive collection of books that she had built up over her years of adventuring.

As Payon grew older he began working with his brothers in the farm, becoming experienced and enthused with the removal of trees while clearing land for expansion. Of course it should be mentioned that, even though he spent his days outdoors laying out fieldwork, dropping trees and repairing tools and equipment, he never lost the love of books that he had when he was younger.

At twenty years of age and with the blessing of his parents, he left home to seek out adventure of his own or at the least, setting up his own lumber business.

Character Appearance:

Of peasant stock, with blonde hair, reddish-brown eyes and fair, though tanned skin. He wears a simple smock of faded blue cloth and rough trousers.

Character Personality:

Payon is a fairly polite, well-spoken person who, while valuing quiet and solitude is willing and capable of dealing with others when the situation calls for it. He believes that a balance of physical and mental activities is required for a balanced personality and is sceptical of those who focus exclusively on one or the other. He enjoys the quiet life and can often be found reading or exploring when not working on the plantation.

Your ambitions:

Honestly, I'm only really looking to see a bit of the world and set up a plantation where I can harvest lumber and make charcoal. I'm thinking I might sell logs in Al'Khazar and Laurelin and the charcoal to the dwarves.

Payon La Trobe can both read and write.

Can your character mine?:

Well I've had a lot of experience with digging fence posts, ploughing soil, chopping down trees, clearing wells, clearing out avenues through thick brush and undergrowth; how much harder can digging a mine be? I mean, I've read about how dwarves do it and it doesn't seem all that...well, no, I've never actually been underground before and- Well, no I haven't really dug through solid stone either but you're using a pickaxe right? Isn't that almost the same as a regular axe? Oh. It's not? Oh. Well, maybe I can't mine then. I guess it's the sort of thing you actually need to do to know how to do it...

Are you a capable builder?:

Fairly capable I believe. I mean, I put up a charcoal burner last autumn and that's still standing, strong as anything. But I wouldn't ask me to construct an entire castle or anything. I mean, I could build a house maybe, but I'm no architect or anything.

Can you wield a sword?:

I've...never had to. I'm fairly well experienced with an axe though. I guess if I had to..I probably could. Not that well though. Not as well as the heroes in the stories, anyway.

Come to think of it, I should learn how to use a sword properly if I'm going to go on any adventures. Or maybe an axe will be good enough... I should learn more.

Enjoy Farming?:

I'd be lying if I didn't say there was a certain satisfaction in eating something you've grown with your own two hands. I do prefer working with trees though. There's just something about standing up in the canopy and feeling the wind in your hair.

Does your character have any special skills?:

Well, I've been living and working on a farm for several years so I suppose I'm fairly good with farmwork. I'm also quite good at making charcoal. I don't know if that counts as anything special. I've no talent for magic or anything like that. Sorry.

To be completely honest, there are a couple of other characters I'd like to use instead, but I believe we're only limited to the one so I had to go with the one which I know will work easiest and has the least potential for complications in-game.
