Out-Of-Character

Minecraft Account Name: Pftt

How old are you?: 17

Time-Zone/Country of Residence: PST / USA

Do you have a good grip on the English language/good grammar?: Yes.

Small 2-3 Sentence Description of yourself: I am soon to be a freshman in college. My interests include art, writing, and video games. I also play some League of Legends on the side.

How much time could you be on the server weekly?: Not sure as of yet. I have some free time on my hands since it's summer. At least one hour a day, I would say.

What do you know about Roleplaying? Give a definition of what it means to you: Roleplaying means to adopt the persona of some person, taking in their environment and traits to interact with the world around them. Characters should be influenced by other chraacters and events, adapting to whatever affects them. Interesting roleplay is like writing a book with the contribution of others. Roleplaying should also be enjoyable, but not at the expense of others. It's not about winning or losing, but delving into your imagination and having fun.

What experience have you had in Roleplaying, if any?: I spent a couple of years playing a game that required roleplay. I'm not the best, but I'm familiar with it.

In your own Words, define what the act of Meta-Gaming is: To meta-game means taking knowledge outside of the realm of roleplay and allowing it to affect said roleplay. For example, a character knowing information said out-of-character, or a character noticing someone behind a wall by seeing their Minecraft nametag.

In your own Words, define what the act of Power-Emoting is: To create an action that doesn't allow affected people to respond or prevent. Like me taking candy from a baby and running off before it can even flail around and hit me in the head. Power-emoting is generally also unrealistic and defeats proper roleplay.

What do you expect this server will be like?: From reading the rules and seeing your huge, devoted playerbase, I can assume LotC is a high-quality server. Roleplay will be taken very seriously, and I'll probably walk away with an enjoyable experience.

What other server(s) have you played on and why did you leave them?: This is my first.

Have you read, understood, and agreed to the rules?: Yes.

Do you promise to abide by said rules, and laws? This includes the Server, Forum, and Teamspeak set Rules: Yes.

How did you hear about us?: A friend who plays on this server recommended it to me.

Have you previously made an Application? If so could you link us to your last Application?: No, this is my first application.

In-Character:

Character Name: Celdion, nickname Cel.

What Race are you? (You may only be Human, Orc, Elf or Dwarf!) : Human

What Sub-Race are you? (note, you aren’t required to have a sub-race):

Biography (Please make this at least 2 paragraphs long. This must include the history of your character and his life as well as age, appearance and personality, etc.): The course of Celdion's life had been determined from the moment her infant form was laid beside her twin brother, or so she has always believed. Born in the booming city of Arethor to a pair of ambitious, well-to-do merchants, the expectation to follow their footsteps weighed heavily on Cel's shoulders. She received her first taste of this burden at the age of seven.

"Ma, pa! Teacher let me be head of choir today. She said she liked my voice!"

A smile from her mother's kind face. "That's nice, dear."

A second set of tiny feet from the door, "Guess what?! That dopey Albert gave me 500 minas for the slice of cake mom packed me at lunch. It must have been worth 100 minas at the most."

A proud chuckle booms. "Did you hear that, Mona? Our Beldion's bound to be swimming in gold when he grows up. Come on boy, we're going out to dinner with that mighty bag of minas you've got. You better keep up to your brother, Cel, if you want to carry on our family's wealth!"

As the twins grew, the subject of their future emerged constantly. They were to have the highest quality education of trade until they were no longer teenagers, then it was off to the world with nothing but a rucksack and each other. Celdion couldn't help but cringe at these seemingly endless talks. But how could she deny her mother's sparkling eyes or her father's voice full of passion? Celdion came to quietly accept the path laid out for her with a smile and nod, never raising an objection. She had not the courage to admit that the greed of the tradesman world disgusted, and frightened, her. She feared those who would stop at nothing and no one to climb to the top, and she did not want to turn into them. Having surrendered to her unhappy fate, Celdion was never able to recognize her true talent in music. Unbeknownst to most, even the girl herself, her melodious voice was her greatest asset. Celdion's twin brother, Beldion, on the other hand, had what it takes to make it as a tradesman. He possessed charisma, patience, ambition -- things his sister did not. On the day of the twins' scheduled departure from Arethor, the two 20 year old's disappeared into the horizon set for their first destination, the elven kingdom of Malinor.

Feeling trapped between caged walls, Cel takes it out on the world. Her words are as icy as her glares, her face rarely betrays warmth nor patience in the presence of strangers. She cares not for the problems of others when she has so many of her own. Despite her hot head, she dare not hurt a soul. More likely, she will cower from a struggle in fear of physical harm or punishment. Cel is neither blind to consequence nor law. In fact, she fears authority to a fault. Cel's strength lies in her wit, which keeps her troublemaker of a brother, one of the few people she would give her life for, from harm.

Celdion stands at 6 feet and 2 inches, with a sturdy, muscular build. Her long hair is the color of chestnuts and her eyes a dark blue. She is neither pretty nor homely, but somewhere in between.

What are your Character's ambitions?:

At the moment, she has no goal but to somehow fill her parents' expectations, and perhaps find happiness.

What is your character’s favorite tool? (sword, pickaxe, shovel, etc): Cel has found the axe to be a most efficient instrument of intimidation and won't hesitate to swing one around to supplement her empty threats. She has also discovered that hacking at trees to release anger is the next best thing to hacking off heads. Her muscular built is thanks to the evenings she spent in the forest with an axe in her hand.

What is one of your Character's most skilled talents?

Celdion has a good ear for music, she just doesn't know it yet. Singing or playing instruments will come easily to her if manages to explore those territories.

Other Information about your Character: Beldion, nicknamed Bella, will be played by SpazmaticSniper. He is already whitelisted.

Open-Response-Questions

Each and every question must be answered with a minimum of a single full paragraph and entirely in RP.

Whilst traveling from the Cloud Temple you see a small halfling, being harassed by two armed warriors. They appear to be trying to steal money from him, how does your character respond?

Celdion follows her brother's transfixed gaze to the bullied halfling and immediately reads Beldion's intentions. "Leave it, Bella. We have to find an inn before nightfall. There's no time for this." But she knows her words couldn't penetrate that thick skull. Her fears are confirmed when he enthusiastically replies, "There's always time to rescue a person in need. Have a heart, sister!"

Panicked thoughts begin to race through Cel's mind. If Beldion chooses to fight, he will be outnumbered. Her eyes catch the glimmer from the warriors' swords. Blood, there will be blood. Bel notices Cel's petrified face, drained of color. He pauses for a moment and concedes, "Alright, sis, we'll move on. I think I hear some people fifty paces behind us anyway. The halfling will be alright."

As they walk pass the scene, Cel heaves a sigh of relief and eyes the halfling warily. She feels a tinge of pity rise from the depths of her heart, but she averts her eyes and it is gone.

Your character wanders into Alras, and comes across a small stall, behind which a well dressed man is standing. He’s offering various wares, the merchant turns to you and says in a posh accent " 'ello there, what can I do you for today?" What is your character response?

Sighing heavily, Celdion quietly curses her brother for leaving her alone when he knows too well that she is terrible at dealing with people. Impatiently, she demands, "Sack of meat and six loaves of bread." The merchant gathers her request and replies, "That'll be 300 minas, miss."

"3000?! Do I look stupid to you? That is pure robbery! You'll get nothing but 150."

"But miss, there's been a few skirmishes with the dwarves as of late and they've burned our fields. Alras is short on food at the moment and prices have risen to the skies. I barely have enough to feed my children."

Cel pounds on the stall with her fist. "I don't CARE about your snot-nosed brats. 150 minas or I'm leaving."

"I'll have you know that you're lucky to have come across me in the first place, miss. None of these merchants will spare a crumb for less than 5000. That's how dire our situation is. If you still insist on making a ruckus, I should remind you that the guards are only a shout away."

Glaring at the man, who clearly wishes her no harm, Celdion slams the 3000 minas on the counter and snatches the food up. She stomps away angrily, muttering to herself about dirty merchants.

Whilst wandering in the wilds, your character comes across a small hut, which looks abandoned. Inside it you see a chest containing a few iron bars, and a golden sword. How would your character respond?:

Beldion tugs on his sister's sleeve eagerly, "Celly! Come look at this." Cel hesitantly follows, knowing that nothing good ever hails from her brother's mischievious grins. He leads her into the small doorway, excitedly pointing to the abandoned treasure. Frowning, Cel says, "Leave it. Whoever lives here could be back any second." Beldion ignores her warning and quickly stows away the sword and iron anyway in his rucksack.

The moment the twins emerge from the hut, an arrow narrowly misses Beldion. It was an ambush. There were bandits in the trees. The pair immediately break into a sprint. However, Beldion lags behind considerably. "Drop the damned stuff!" Celdion screams at her brother behind her. She sees the bandits not far behind as Beldion struggles to open his pack. Fearing the worst, Cel hurries back to rip off Beldion's pack and throw it over their shoulders. She grabs his wrist and drags him behind her. They stop at a seemingly safe distance to catch their breath.

Beldion huffs, "All our food... was in there." Celdion does not reply, instead she throws him an icy stare and refuses to speak to him for days. Of course, the girl could never stay mad at her brother for long and forgives him in a week's time.

Hungry and lost in the wilderness, you stumble across a small trading camp nestled among the forest, they greet you you in the common tongue, how do you respond?

Cel recognizes the nature of the camp and immediately surveys all its inhabitants with disgust. She doesn't feel right amidst strangers without Beldion by her side, but in her wretched state, she realizes she has no choice but to request help. She addresses the traders, "Have any of you seen a young man who looks like me pass by here? We were separated a day ago running from a pack of wolves." One of the traders approach Cel, a seemingly jolly man. She inspects him cautiously, taking a step backwards to keep a comfortable distance. To her horror, the trader laughs at her unease and leans in even closer. He says with a taunting voice and eyes her money pouch, "We can tell you, for a price."

Not possessing much reason at that moment, Cel immediately brandishes her axe towards the man and yells, "Tell me before you lose your head!" The man retreats, holding his hands up. Before he can speak, Celdion hears her brother's voice say, "I recognized your blaring voice right away, sis." Beldion emerges from one of the trader tents and smiles at Cel. To the man he says, "Don't worry about my sister, pal, she gets a little cranky when she's hungry." Cel lowers her axe, but doesn't bother apologizing to the man.

You hear word that bandits occupy the road outside the town in which you have been staying. The town guard have gathered, and are asking for assistance to help eliminate them. The leader of the party is offering a reward for any who offer their support. How does your character act on this information?:

Cel scoffs upon hearing the call, "Is it time to pack up and move on already?"

Her brother, on the other hand, practically hops in excitement. Beldion laughs at his sister, "What, are you and your big axe not coming along? We might all die without it!"

Rolling her eyes at her brother's jest, Cel continues to flip through the pages of her novel. As she watches him leave, she bites her lip in worry. Even though he'll most likely be safe with such a large group, she can't help it. If her brother were to be separated from her, Celdion would be alone in the world, one of her biggest fears. She places the bookmark in her book and places it down. Picking up her axe, Cel follows the group and positions herself behind a tree as the group approaches the bandits. After they easily chase off the thieves, Celdion slinks back to her room in the inn, looking like she had never left at all.

Anything else you would like to say?:

I tried to incorporate Asulon lore into my application, but the Wikipedia confused me terribly. Entries were inconsistent and outdated in some parts (is there an Alras or is there not?), and it was difficult to figure out an exact timeline of when events occurred. If I overlooked something in the Wiki that made everything clear, then I apologize.
