Out-Of-Character

Minecraft Account Name:Renton02k

How old are you?:22

Time-Zone/Country of Residence:United States, Central Standard Time

Do you have a good grip on the English language/good grammar?:Yes, I do.

Small 2-3 Sentence Description of yourself:I am an avid Minecraft player, looking to get into some deep RP. I love the game, but looking to get more out of it with the multiplayer.

How much time could you be on the server weekly?:3-4 hours a day, if not more.

What do you know about Roleplaying? Give a definition of what it means to you:Role-playing to me is a whole other level of gameplay. To me, it's immersing yourself in a character and world that are as real as you want to make it.

What experience have you had in Roleplaying, if any?:I used to play on the CivRP server when it was up. I also do a lot of RPG gaming.

In your own Words, define what the act of Meta-Gaming is:Meta-gaming to me is knowing information before my character might know it, and using that to shape the RP I am involved with. For instance, I, the player might know Achilles weakness is his heel, but my character Lief, may not have found that out yet. If I were to battle Achilles, it wouldn't make sense for Lief to go right for his heel, because he doesn't know that information yet. It's basically an error in RP that I try my best to avoid whenever possible. Just because the player knows something doesn't mean the character knows it, and it shouldn't be used to shape a story or an RP until it's appropriate.

In your own Words, define what the act of Power-Emoting is:Power-emoting is an overly dominant style of RP. It takes away the true nature of RP, which is freedom, and choice. An example of power-emoting is me saying, "Lief attacks you, you are injured, and I steal 20 gold from you". By doing that I am telling the opposing player how his or her character will respond, which is not right, because it removes their freedom and choice. They could counter or do something else to stop me from injuring their player. Power-emoting is unfair and takes a lot of fun out of RP experiences.

What do you expect this server will be like?:I expect it to be an immersive RP style of play with great story and players.

What other server(s) have you played on and why did you leave them?:CivRP, it shut down.

Have you read, understood, and agreed to the rules?:Yes.

Do you promise to abide by said rules, and laws? This includes the Server, Forum, and Teamspeak set Rules:Yes.

How did you hear about us?:I was referred by a player that I used to play with on the CivRP server named Fierco.

Have you previously made an Application? If so could you link us to your last Application?:No, this is my first application to this server, and I really hope that I make it.

In-Character:

Character Name:Lief

What Race are you? (You may only be Human, Orc, Elf or Dwarf!) :Elf

What Sub-Race are you? (note, you aren’t required to have a sub-race):Wood Elf

Biography (Please make this at least 2 paragraphs long. This must include the history of your character and his life as well as age, appearance and personality, etc.):Lief is a Wood Elf who had a very ordinary upbringing. He has never known his father, who died long ago, of an illness that would have been easily cured, if his family was not poverty stricken. His whole life, Lief felt he was destined for more, and yearned for the chance at some kind of adventure.

After the passing of his mother, he decided it was time to leave his childhood home, and to venture out to the places of Asulon that he had never been. With nothing to his name, he decided it was time for him to make a better life for himself than his parents were able to.

What are your Character's ambitions?:He yearns for adventure. He longs to aid those in need, and to be apart of something bigger than himself, to help validate his existence.

What is your character’s favorite tool? (sword, pickaxe, shovel, etc):While a sword would be his first choice of favorite tool as an adventurer, Lief really enjoys the fishing pole. Fishing gives him time to think, and has some nostalgia attached to it, because it's one of the last things his father taught him to do before he passed.

What is one of your Character's most skilled talents? He is very good at telling stories. With a life lacking fun or adventure, Lief's imagination was his main source of excitement and fun. He is very good at making up stories and entertaining people.

A screenshot of your skin (must be in proper format, if you do not know how to acquire one, copy and paste this link into your browser: ( http://tinyurl.com/Lotcscreenshot ):

Other Information about your Character:As an Elf, Lief also enjoys archery. Although he is not the best at it, he likes to shoot competitively, but has never actually used a bow against a living thing, be it Orc, Man, or animal.

Open-Response-Questions

Each and every question must be answered with a minimum of a single full paragraph and entirely in RP.

Whilst traveling from the Cloud Temple you see a small halfling, being harassed by two armed warriors. They appear to be trying to steal money from him, how does your character respond?I slowly draw my sword, as I take a deep breath and lightly weigh the decisions ahead of me. I could storm in and try to save this man, risking both his life and my own, or I could go my own way and leave him to his own fate. While the second choice would be the safest, I decide that storming in is the best way to go. I've left home, and my thirst for adventure overpowers my reason. I rush in, sword drawn, heart pounding, and yell, "Leave the little one alone, agressors!" Hoping my confident tone and my drawn sword are enough to scare the men away, I stare at them with the most intimidating stare that I can muster up. After a few moments, the men decide that they don't want to cross blades with me, give the hafling back what they've taken from him, and leave. Once they are out of distance, I smile at the halfling, and say, "Be careful." I give a nod, and go along my merry way.

Your character wanders into Alras, and comes across a small stall, behind which a well dressed man is standing. He’s offering various wares, the merchant turns to you and says in a posh accent " 'ello there, what can I do you for today?" What is your character response?I ask the merchant if he's looking to buy any goods. I then proceed to show him the fish I have caught, and other items I have found on my way. The merchant says that he is not interested in any of those things, but would be willing to purchase my fishing pole. I ponder the offer, but decide not to. The merchant continues to offer more and more for the pole, and as tempting as it becomes to part with it, I decide to keep it. Although the money would be nice, my fishing pole gives me time to relax and think about things. It also reminds me of where I came from, and is apart of the memories that I associate with my family and carry with me always. I bow to the merchant, and thank him for his time, but decline his offers. We part ways, and although I am a little upset to not have made any money, I am still happy that I kept my fishing pole.

Whilst wandering in the wilds, your character comes across a small hut, which looks abandoned. Inside it you see a chest containing a few iron bars, and a golden sword. How would your character respond?:I decide to set up camp outside of the hut. If no one returns for 3 days, I think, then I will take the items in the chest for myself. But only after 3 days of no one returning. I could sell the items in the chest to pay for some food, but I wouldn't want to do so, if I was stealing from someone else's livelihood, and in turn, taking food out of their mouths. I build a big fire the first night, and lay out under the stars. The next day I walk about and find a small pond that I fish in for a good time. I return to the hut to still find no one there. The second night, a lone traveler comes across my camp and the hut. "This is the owner of this hut," I think to myself, but come to find out, his name is Brom and he is a traveler in the wilds just like me. I offer to let him set up camp next to me, and he accepts. We stay up half the night telling each other stories of great battles and warriors of the past. I awake the next morning to find Brom gone, and the contents of chest in the hut gone as well. I am severely disappointed at this, pack up my camp, and head off on my merry way. As it gets dark that evening, I decide to keep on walking, because I am still not tired enough to settle down. On my walk that night, I find Brom, camped ahead of me. I debate on what to do, and after a lot of reasoning, I come to a decision: Kill Brom. I wait until he falls asleep, I sneak in, and I kill him. My reasoning was that he would take those items from anyone, whether there was someone who owned that hut or not. By taking those things, the owner of them could have gone starving, which in my mind, was basically Brom deciding to take the potential hut owner's life. After ending Brom, I take the items he stole from the chest, and set up camp a ways away from his, but in the direction of the hut. When day breaks, I wake up, and head back to the hut, to return the items, because as I said, I wouldn't take them unless 3 days had passed with no one showing up. When I arrive back at the hut that evening, I hear crying. I enter to the hut to find an old woman bawling her eyes out. "Whats wrong?" I ask her. She responds by telling me how her husband has just recently passed, and she just arrived home from burying him with his family, to find that the small fortune they had saved up was missing. I tell the woman that I found the items on a thief, and give them back to her. She smiles and thanks me, cooks me a small meal, and I leave the next day. Although I didn't get to keep the items, I am content in helping the old woman.

Hungry and lost in the wilderness, you stumble across a small trading camp nestled among the forest, they greet you you in the common tongue, how do you respond?I greet them with kindness, and offer them some of the fish I have caught. They accept, and that night, we dine together next to a small campfire, eating fish and drinking a bit of mead that they have. After dinner, we regale one another with stories and songs. The men offer to let me make camp in their small settlement for the night, and I am grateful. That night as we fall asleep, a loud noise is heard near the camp, and I am awakened. I start to hear shouts, and see torches. It's a raiding party, coming to steal from the trading camp. I awaken the men around me, who I had been dining with previously. We draw our swords, and go to defend the camp. After an arduous battle, and a few deaths, the bandit raiding party retreats, and I help the remaining traders put out some small fires. The next day I offer to help bury their dead. After doing so, I pack my things, and ready myself for a departure. The traders all come to me and thank me for my aid the previous night. They give me a bottle of their mead, some dried meats, and a ring. I plead with them, out of politeness, to not bestow so many things on me, but they assure me, that they want me to have it. They explain that it was noble of me to stay and help them, instead of running away, and fending for myself. They then extend an invitation to me, to return anytime. I thank them all, and go on my way, with a small voice in my head telling me that I would see these people again, and I was glad of it.

You hear word that bandits occupy the road outside the town in which you have been staying. The town guard have gathered, and are asking for assistance to help eliminate them. The leader of the party is offering a reward for any who offer their support. How does your character act on this information?:I jump at the opportunity. For one, I am always on the lookout for adventure. I have little money, and little to my name, so with nothing to really lose, I am glad to aid those in need, if it means a great story or experience to share with someone later. It only makes the deal more sweet that they are offering a reward for those who are willing to help. I sign up immediately. Although my excitement and vigor to risk my life for a group of people that I don't know may seem odd, to me it is appropriate, and I am glad to aid wherever I can.

Anything else you would like to say?:I am an avid RP player, and just love helping to shape an in game story and history. I feel I would be a great addition to your server, in the sense that I would fully immerse myself in the pre-existing history of the lands, but also RP strongly enough to help be apart of the history that is being made each day there. I hope you consider approving this application, and I am excited to see what happens next. Thank you!

Your application is at a very good standard but your meta-gaming and Power-Emoting definitions are horribly wrong.

I am giving you 12 hours to sort them out then you can await your verdict.

Welcome to Asulon

Although error with Meta and Power gaming definitions, a well written application. You had a good biography and new definitions were good. Also your Open-Response-Questions were well though out.

Good luck in your up and coming role play

Ben
