(note, you aren’t required to have a sub-race): Mountain Dwarf Biography (Please make this at least 2 paragraphs long. This must include the history of your character and his life as well as age, appearance and personality, etc.): Shammus Stonecut was part of an extremely long line of smiths. A mountain dwarf clan from Mount Ire. Stonecuts had been smiths for generations. Shammus was raised to be a smith and he always thought that is what he would be. So for years he trained to become a smith with his father and uncles. Years passed and Shammus progressed in his training. He made swords and armor easily. He trained like this for days on end. Until he reached the age of sixteen. It was at this time that Shammus realized that there was much more to the world than forging weapons and armor. He read books filled with depictions of places he had never even heard of. His time and training around the forge dwindled to the point where he wouldn’t spend any of his time near it. His father was disgusted. Shammus was the last son of the Stonecuts and he was throwing away centuries of tradition. Shammus was beaten in the hope that he would lose all foolish notions of ever giving up on his ancestral profession. Shammus began to work the forge grudgingly. His swords were brittle, his armor was heavy, and his axes were dull. He had lost all desire to become a black smith. His father detested him now. Shammus felt no remorse. So he ran. He left his home to see places that he had spent hours reading about. He first wanted to see The Holy Oren Empire. It’s massive buildings and titanic cities were wonders of carpentry and stone masonry. He was particularly interested in Hanseti. He wanted to see, for himself the zealous members of the Teutonic Order. He knew there was so much history there. The politics that occurred when Hanseti was absorbed by the Holy Oren Empire fascinated Shammus beyond belief. He could not, however, miss seeing Kal’Dwain. It was a place his uncle Varkal had always talked about. An immense city made by dwarves, the truest of craftsmen. Varkal was Shammus’ only uncle who understood why Shammus had such a desire to see the world. Varkal had done so. He was filled with the same desire that 16 year old Shammus had. “There is more to life than the inside of a smithy.” He would say. It was statements like that which inspired Shammus to get out of the reach of his father and see the world as his Uncle had. While on the way to Hanseti, Shammus realized something. The books he had told of the great splendor and wonder of all of these places. Yet no of them even mentioned the slums that the held within. No book even mentioned anything about the impoverished people that barely made a living in these cities. Shammus felt it was his duty to do so. Everyone had a story. That was something he knew from personal experience. His goal was to write the story of as many people as he could find be they old or young, lowborn or noble, orc or elf. Shammus would write the history that others refused to. What are your Character's ambitions?: To record the stories of lands and people whenever he could. To do so he would need to make a short term living so he decided to enter the merchant’s trade. What is your character’s favorite tool? (sword, pickaxe, shovel, etc): Shammus believes the power of the mind is the greatest tool of all. He also believes that a sword can come in handy too. What is one of your Character's most skilled talents? Shammus prides himself on a sharp tongue and he still retains some knowledge of smithing he was taught in his youth. Monk: “Yes, but where is the halfling?” Shammus: *shrugs* I saw him run away. He may have managed to escape them. We should take back what they stole from him. Monk: *nods.* Gentlemen. If you would not mind please hand over any and all assets you were able to take from the halfling. *The men look at Shammus enraged but hand over the money the stole from the hobbit.* Monk: We will look for the halfling. You should head back to the temple so there is no chance you receive the same fate. Shammus: Will do. Your character wanders into Alras, and comes across a small stall, behind which a well-dressed man is standing. He’s offering various wares, the merchant turns to you and says in a posh accent " 'ello there, what can I do you for today?" What is your character response? Shammus: Well I don’t mean to impose, good sir, but do you think you could help me? Man: Depends, what is it? Shammus: I was wondering if you could teach me a bit about trade. I’d like to become a merchant and what better way to learn than from a merchant? Man: *shakes his head.* I’m not a big fan of competition. Shammus: Oh, that isn’t what I aspire to do. I just want to learn a bit about it to get by. Man: Well, I’m a bit shorthanded at the moment. Hows about you work fer me? Shammus: Sounds fine to me. Man: Alright then. If you aren’t helpful yer out on yer arse. Shammus:*nods.* Right. Whilst wandering in the wilds, your character comes across a small hut, which looks abandoned. Inside it you see a chest containing a few iron bars, and a golden sword. How would your character respond?: Shammus: *looks back and forth over his shoulders making sure no one is around. After verifying this he goes towards the chest, takes everything inside and runs. While running away he hears shouting.* Orc: Lat! What lat doing? Shammus: *stares at the orc and blinks twice.* R-running? Orc: Lat hab my stuff! Shammus: I didn’t think it wa- Orc: Lat touched my junk! Shammus: N-no you don’t under- Orc: No body skahin’ touches my junk and lives! Shammus: *drops all of the stuff he took from the chest and ran as fast as he could away from the orc.* Hungry and lost in the wilderness, you stumble across a small trading camp nestled among the forest, they greet you in the common tongue, how do you respond? Woman: Hello there! Shammus: H-hello… do you have any food? Man: *Nods* C’mere. Take a seat by the fire. Shammus: Thank you. Woman: *hands Shammus bread and ale.* Shammus: *wolfs down the food and drink he was givin.* Man: What’s yer name, dwarf. Shammus: *talks, mouth full.* Shammus. Man: *smiles.* You must’ve been hungery. Shammus:*nods* Man: Not a man of many words, huh? Shammus: *shakes his head, chewing.* As the night went on Shammus drank until he passed out. Shammus: *wakes up rubbing his head.* W-where the hell… Shammus: *looks around the camp to find everyone gone, the fire only embers and his clothes, money, and inventory gone.* You hear word that bandits occupy the road outside the town in which you have been staying. The town guard have gathered, and are asking for assistance to help eliminate them. The leader of the party is offering a reward for any who offer their support. How does your character act on this information?: Guard: Listen up! There are some brigands on the road just south of here. We need help to clear em’ out. No one moves. Guard: *sighs.* Anyone who aids in this will receive a small sum of coin. A few people slowly move forward and volunteer. Guard: *puts his hand over his face.* If we do not manage to clear out these bandits we will never receive trade from Arethor, thus none of you will make any money resulting in your own starvation. Many people, including Shammus, step forward. Guard: Finally. Those of you who volunteer will receive some arms and armor that you will have to return. Anyone who does not return this armor with not receive a payment which will be given to you at the closing of this month. Shammus: *raises his hand* Guard: Yes. Shammus: How many bandits are there? Guard: Enough to block the road we normally control. Shammus: R-right, Guard: Chances are we won’t reach an engagement anyway. If they see this number of enemies charging at them they will most likely scatter to the wind. Shammus: Well that’s reassuring. Guard: Oh and before we leave please list another person who will receive your payment should you die. Shammus: That’s not. Guard: Strictly a precaution. Shammus: At least it’ll make for a good story. Anything else you would like to say?: I hope you accept me I’d really like to get on.
