Definitions

In your own words, define what the act of roleplaying is:

Role-playing is the act of taking on the role of a character and making decisions based on the characters wants, needs, etc. rather than your own.

In your own words, define what the act of meta-gaming is:

Meta gaming is using information learned out of character, in character. For example you might see someones name plate thru a wall or their name might come up in chat but your in game persona would not have that information so therefore you cant use that to base your decisions.

In your own words, define what the act of power-emoting is:

Power-emoting is when you perform an emote upon another character and leave no chance for it to fail. For example: *Guard kills the robber* In this case the guard is power emoting by leaving the robber no chance to escape or survive.

In your own words, define what Out of Character (OOC) is:

Out of Character is conversations with other players outside of your in game character. In the OOC chat you do not have to abide by the constraints of your in game character. It should be noted that you can not use information gained via ooc as that'd be metagaming. For example you cant ask for directions via ooc as your in game character would not have these directions.

In your own words, define what In Character (IC) is:

In character is the persona that you are roleplaying as. The IC chat channel on LOTC is roleplay only while the OOC chat does not abide by such constraints.

Character Name:

Galahad Destinado

Character Race:

Human, Northerner

Character biography - Make this at least 2 paragraphs long, which must explain your character’s history, appearance, personality, age and any other details you deem necessary:

HERE BIGINNETH THE TALE OF GALAHAD DESTINADO

If ye be light of heart or mind

Then look away and remain blind

The Tale of Galahad Destinado be

Filled with epics never heard before

Of Knights of Old

Of Treasures yet untold

The Tale of a Scholar Behold

Muse. Speak thru me, and tell the story

Of that man skilled in all ways of prose,

The scholar, mocked for years on end,

After he told the epics of old

In many a sacred hall of silver and gold

This man, Galahad

Has been to many a land

He’s seen the darkest terrors

And weathered many a bitter weather

Trekking to find a story

Of secrets yet untold

Only to be scorned

By everyone he adored

For rhyme and rhythm were “foolish” things

To these o’ so mighty kings

“Galahad you are mad” they say

To this Galahad laughs and rides away

Not before cursing these high kings of men

To their own surprise and dismay

“Galahad was a brilliant man” his friends convey

“But once the rhythm and rhyme take hold…”

“…a poetic demon behold.”

Galahad is a bold man for one

At only five foot two

His wild persona over compensated

This lack in stature accommodated

His lithe body, white hair, and striking blue eyes

These qualities are forgotten quick

When a song gets a hold of ol’ Galahad

To stop him he only needs a swift kick

And he’s out the door not even a bit sore

For he is content with belting a tune

To no one but the moon

Until his song wakes up the ol’ constable

And in jail he was till the next afternoon

This could not stop the beast within him

Forever rhyming and chiming

Dancing, prancing and romancing

For the beasts of rhyme and prose

Were strong in Galahad

And you would be mad

Not to enjoy ol’ Galahad

Ol’ Galahad

Never had a dad

But do not have grief

For Galahad drove his mum mad

With his tales of riches stolen by a thief

Who made not a sound more then a falling leaf

Past the sleeping guard with a relief

And sneaking right into the back of a guard went the thief

He soon found himself without a head, no head for the thief

Straight out the door went Galahad

He had driven the whole family quite insane

Galahad could not be to blame

Rhyme was in his heart, rhythm in his brain

As a young lad

With no family thought Galahad

With no worries thought Galahad

So he roamed all over, Auslon his domain

So it was that Galahad became quite urbane

Doing as he wished without restrain

And so it was that Galahad

Roamed the cities after dusk

Seeking riches from those who were brusque

He donned his cowl

Making more noise than a screech owl

Upon seeing the piles of gold around him he sensed something afoul

Hearing the guard behind him growl

He knew he was done

So he succumbed to singing a lil’ ol’ pun

It went something like this, like this

“Hallo there dear guardian of these riches”

The guard grunted and moved forward with shackles

“Have ye ever heard a pun before?”

“Have no fear these’ll make you roar”

“Let me just get it from my britches”

The guard shackled the man and wondered how such an insane man would survive in prison but continued to shackled him and then lead him out front, till help arrived.

“Ah, here we go”

“You are in for a sure treat”

“No pun could be as sweet”

Galahad cleared his throat then began to belt out several puns rapidly

“A criminal's best asset is his lie ability?

“A thief who stole a calendar got twelve months.”

“What do you call an arrogant fugitive falling from a building? Condescending.”

“She was suspected of stealing a brooch but they couldn't pin it on her.”

The guard having no idea what a pun is or why it is funny simply grunted and dragged Galahad away as he laughed his head off.

Galahad soon realized he was as good at thievery

As a blind man at seeing scenery

Upon seeing the grand universities at Oren

Galahad soon made a plan

He would learn and become a scholar

So that he might one day earn some honor

Galahad’s soon realized the profesors and doctors

Were as keen to his prose as his mum

So he damned them and gave up the dream of being a scholar

He rather delight himself at many a bar

Till they grew old of his rhyme and threatened him with hot tar

So Galahad travelled near and far

Learning and making up tales as he went

Just to earn a few minas

Even if his crowd was drunk and threw peanuts

That is all I shall tell

Of Galahad’s tale

He is known as a thief, and a scholar

But most of all he is a poem lov’r

With an insane love of prose some say he may need a doctor

Some may call him mad

But all are glad after hearing a poem and a jest or two

Unless they are as foul looking as you.

The wonderful,

Galahad Destinado

What are your characters ambitions?:

*A writer for a local publication goes up to Galahad.*

"Well 'cuse me sir. Can ye tell me a little 'bout yo self and uh, what are ye ambitions in this dreary life ye have?"

"Ye want to know my ambitions boy!"

"I want to sleep by day, Drink and sing by night!"

"I want a travelers joy."

"I once killed a huge orc with my bare hands!" I yelled

"Surely not sir they weigh more than a ton!"

"I've travelled to bad lands."

"But now all I want is to tell a tale or two."

"To drink a fine mead or two."

"Hmm, a cloud wine or mages brew."

"I apologize I offended ye." replied the interviewer

"Nonsense! I am a bard."

"And a bards life is clearly not for you."

"Now, out of my way."

"And ye have a nice day."

*I then strode down the rode singing my favorite song about the mule who thought he was a dragon. Leaving the little man behind me looking ever more confused.*

Is there anything else you would like to say about your character?

Galahad Destinado is an old and bold man. He considers himself a scholar yet barely went to a week at a university. He thinks himself an expert retired thief yet never even stole a single minas. One thing that everyone can be sure of is his love of drink and his love of poetry, song and rhyme. He is beloved at every tavern till he begins to make jests about the occupants of said tavern. Galahad's voice is known by almost every night time guard in Auslon as he often awakens is the morning to find himself in jail for causing quite the riot at the local tavern. Galahad Destinado is brother to Adeilad Destinado but he rarely sees or talks to his brother who is much better off. It should also be noted that Galahad likes to exaggerate any story he tells.

Open-Response-Questions

Each question here must be answered with a minimum of one full paragraph, and detail the scene you are given in the way it would happen in roleplay. These questions should be answered in first person. Be detailed, not short.

Upon entering the Mighty Human City of Arethor, you come across a shop-keeper calling out to sell his wares to passers-by. The shopkeeper is not a Human, he is a poor dwarf looking to make a living in a new city. What is your response?

"Hello dear dwarf, have ye any fine wines?" I asked

"Nay, nay, I only have ores and such from the mines."

"Ye seem to be in poor business there was not even a line."

"Aye, there be humans who be wrecking my shop!"

"Really? They must be stopped."

"The selling of ore be more for a dwarf than a human."

"Here is what I shall do..." I told the dwarf "I'll swap you 100 minas for a ring of ruby and I'll take care of that damn shop that be hurtin' you."

"Thank ye kind sir, thank ye. I never expected such kindness from a human."

*I did the swap with the dwarf and then headed to the competitor. A word with them I had for sure, for sure. I told 'em "Oi! Look 'ere, this is the ruby ring made of pure dwarven metal and rubies." Of course they didn't believe me till they saw dwarven writing on the inside of the gold band. "1,000 minas" I told them and they haggled me down to 950 minas. These particularly dimwitted men of business and brought the dwarf over to witness." They bragged and say how much the ring was worth. The dwarf simply smiled and walked back to his hearth. So it was these humans soon went broke. Trying to sell that damn ring, fooled by a simple practical joke.

You’re in the Cloud Sanctuary late at night, when a large Orc begins to threaten a nearby dwarf. The only present monk is fast asleep, and the situation looks like it will escalate into violence soon, what does your character do?

So 'ere is how the story goes.

After this ye best knows not to mess with a drunk man of prose.

So, I had had quite a few drinks and was a bit lost. When this big bugger orc go and tell this lil' dwarf hes gonna get 'quashed. Those orcs are not the sharpest swords in the armoury, eh? So I yell out "Hey!" And this big orc turns around and his face looks worse than my mum after a night at the tavern. "You belong in some damn cavern!" This really got the orc going so he puts the dwarf down and comes over to me. "Oi! Why you coming to me! What! Ye think I'm gonna give ye tea!" Damn ugly bastards. This orc tilts his head up and starts roaring like a man being tarred. "Ye really dont know who ye messin' wit' do ya! I am a bard!" I pulls out ma lute and play a tune. Then the orc took a swiing at me, under that very moon. I'd had a brawl or two with a guard. I'm known to have a number of scars! So I ducked, dropped my lute, and picked up a large sitck that was charred. This orc was in for a number, he had messed with a bard!

The orc took a while to recover and figure where I was. So I swung that stick straight into the beasts jaws and without pause I took off on a run. A bard is allowed to have his bit of fun. But fighting an orc, I would not have won. Luckily for the dwarf the orc had more important matters after that. Like explaining to his family why he couldn't spat.

Whilst walking down the road to Malinor, you stumble upon an old man. His walking stick , looks weak and frail, and just as you are about to ask something, the stick breaks, and the man falls to the ground. As he falls down, a bag of Minas falls to the ground, and splits open. As you watch the multiple coins spill out, you peer down at the defenceless man. What does your character do?:

"Oi, you seem to be havin' some 'er struggle!" I remarked to the old man

"Don't step on the cobble or the rubble"

"You'll lose ya footing and be in some trouble."

"Please sir, help me up, I'm an old man and this is all the money I have in the world."

"Bah, you look not a day younger sixty two!"

"Why, my shoe be older than you!"

"But I'm too old to be a petty thief."

"And you're as frail as a leaf."

*The old man wondered whether this strange poet would continue with his rhymes or actually do something*

*Seeing the old mans questionable look I introduced myself*

"Dear sir, I am Galahad Destinado"

"Not to be befuddled with Adeilad Destinado"

"The trouble seems to lie"

"With your walking stick, good sir."

"It could hardly hold a fly."

"I shall restore your minas to their place."

"I suggest you store them well, just in case."

"Then we shall move along, for sure, for sure"

*Together I helped the old man gather up his minas but it seemed the man could hardly walk without aid and was already red hot as there was no shade.*

"I thank ye' very kindly ye' good soul but, but I can handle myself." Replied the old man to me. I realized he didn't seem to be a fan of my rhyme and rhythm and one could say I was deeply disheartened.

"Now, now, listen 'ere." Said I

"I will take you and buy you a beer."

"Maybe, tell a tale or a stale jest or two."

"I never pass up a companion to listen to me."

"And you are in quite the need of help."

"So lets sing a song you whelp."

Together we went to the nearest tavern in Malinor and had a smashing time. Well except for the old man. He had a good rhyme in his head. Damn man. Must be mad to not enjoy a tad of rhyme.
