Ark 2835 Share Posted September 2, 2012 I know you might just pop up a dictionary and get the definition but once my character was really sad because his best friend was almost dead, He was sitting in the corner and then a man came and said "Relax you, Nance." Well I'm from the U.S.A so I've never heard that word till then, So I politely Pm'd him and asked him the meaning of Nance. He said it is the British equivalent to ******. So then I thanked him and then made my character reply how he would if someone called him a ******. Then the guy said ((You can't know it now void that)) I was very new to the server it was my first week, so I just complied not knowing the "Norm" of the server. Now after about four months I was thinking about it at a loading screen. Since we are from different parts of the world don't you think that we should be able to use the different dialects? It is not a hate post just a moment of confusion I think it would be nice to make that clearer.
Groobs03 297 Share Posted September 2, 2012 In my opinion it would more or less be the standpoint of your character. If you feel that your character would have a wide enough vocabulary to understand that word, then it would be up to you to decide if your character would understand it. I will be honest, I have no idea what the word nance means, and nor would my character as he is quite the drunken fisherman. tl;dr : If your character would know, yes, if he wouldn't, no. EDIT: You may want to title this with an [OOC] in front of it, or put brackets around the title as it is an ooc question in an rp forum.
