cmack1028 549 Share Posted September 3, 2012 *Rupert paces back and forth in his laboratory, after seeing the mining capability of TNT explosives. He mutters to himself about what he's heard on how to make TNT.* "Sand 'n po'der, aye? Sand 'n po'er... Bu' 'ow? 'Ow do ye' use th' stuff t' make it blow up? HOW?!" *Rupert sits down at a nearby table with a small pouch filled with gunpowder and another filled with sand. He starts mix small amounts together, little by little creating small chunks of TNT and places them far apart from each other. 3 hours later, and after making 8 small chunks of explosives, Rupert brings his flint and steel and newly made chunks of TNT outside. He ignites the first little chunk and tosses it in a nearby lake. The TNT goes off, but no damage is done.* "Wha' th? No "boom" in th' wa'er, aye? I be learnin' lots 'bou' this stuff... Be'er righ' it down." *Rupert then ignites a second small TNT chunk and throws it at a nearby tree. The TNT goes off, but only caused very minimal damage to the tree trunk. He then ignites 2 more small chunks and throws them at the same time at the tree. The TNT goes off and breaks the trunk of the tree, tipping the tree over.* "Hurr! More is be'er! Th' more explosive there be, th' more damage it do! Good, good." *Rupert walks back inside his house carrying the 4 small TNT chunks. He sits at the same table for a couple of hours thinking about how he could merge the 4 pieces together to create one large explosive. After many attempts to tie them together, stick them together and forcefully merge them together, he made no progress. Rupert then thought about the way he was doing it. Rupert was trying to stack them on top of each other. This was why it wasn't working. Rupert got a big piece of string and wrapped it around all four pieces in a square, roughly one meter wide and one meter tall. The explosive was just as tall as Rupert, and twice as wide. Rupert carried the large chunk of TNT outside of his house and placed it down near a cave. He lit the TNT and ran for his life. About 3 seconds later, a large boom was heard, and Rupert had barely gotten a safe distance away. He went back to the cave, only to see a much larger cave room made. It was a success. He had recreated the large explosive he had before seen, only bigger, badder and better then before.* "I-I did i'! Made it work, aye! Goo', goo'. Miners shoul' be 'appy with me! I shoul' be rich! Bu' wai'... This 'as so much more capability then jus' minin'... Hmmm. Let me see wha' I can do." *Rupert runs inside his house and jumps up onto the desk seat. He takes out a piece of paper and quill and starts sketching ideas. The first thing he thought of to do was find a way to move TNT with TNT. He then thought back to earlier in the day, when he tossed the little chunk into the water. It still blew up, but the water had completely suppressed any damage caused. He then started sketching out a little chute with water in it and stone on the sides. He sketched TNT chunks under the water, and then scribbled up the last sketch and thought about how he can't ignite it if water is on top of the TNT. He sat in the chair for another hour, thinking. He couldn't come up with anything.* "'Ow could I trigger th' explosives withou' fire? Huh. I be gettin' 'ungry. Ooh! Fresh Too'water fish in th' storage closet!" *As Rupert hops out of his chair and makes his way to his storage area, he trips over some redstone wire that was part of a previous project. He fell down and sat on his arse for a good minute, and quickly shouted.* "I GO' IT!" *Rupert rushed to his chest, taking some sand and gunpowder, and a small piece of fish which he quickly gobbled down. He quickly makes a tiny chunk of TNT and on his way out the door grabs some redstone wire and a switch. He runs to the cave he previously tested his explosive in and plops down the TNT and swiftly makes a circuit connecting the TNT and the lever outside. He hits the switch and doesn't hear anything. About a second later, "BOOM." He rushes to the cave to find a much smaller crater made, but still a difference in the floor. It was now obvious to him how he was going to make some of it travel. The next day, Rupert sketched out his new version of the sketch. A small chute with a little bit of water at the bottom of it, explosives on top of the water and one, smaller explosive on the end of the chute, not in the water. Rupert drew a redstone circuit on one side of the chute, igniting all the TNT inside of the chute, but not the TNT on the edge. Rupert rushed out of his house to build his design. He finished filling it with water, putting the explosives in the right spot and making the circuit. It was time to test it. The TNT in the chute ignited as Rupert hit the lever. The entire chute blew up. Rupert was stunned, and couldn't figure out what went wrong. He rebuilt the entire thing, doing everything the same as before. He took a moment to think of how it happened. It occurred to him that maybe the TNT in the water blew up the TNT on the edge instead of launching it. Rupert added another redstone circuit on the opposite side of the previous circuit he made, connecting it to the TNT on the edge. Rupert hit the lever to trigger the TNT in the water, then a second after, the lever for the TNT on the edge. The water TNT blew up and launched the edge TNT sky-high. The TNT blew up while in the air, causing no damage but a spectacular and colorful explosion.* "Well loo' at that! Beau'iful... Bu' wai'! Wha' if it went straigh' int' th' air? Much safer, aye? Aye!" *Rupert built 4 more chutes, but this time facing them all towards each other. He connected the edges of the 4 chutes and filled them with water and TNT. He put a middle piece of TNT where all the chutes meet. He hit the lever which ignited all the 4 chutes full of TNT. The middle piece didn't ignite, though. Rupert saw it a split second before it blew, and was able to run to a safer distance. All 4 chutes blew up and caused a huge mess. Rupert recreated the 4 chutes, and did everything right a second time. He hit the lever and sparked the middle TNT piece. The 4 chutes full of TNT went off, causing no damage. An ignited piece of TNT flew straight up and blew up at the peak of its flight. Rupert watches the explosion and lets out a giant smile.* "I've... I've done it! This... This shoul' ge' some people t' like me, aye? Hurr. I be'er go t' Branborough 'n show me fellow 'Alflin's wha' I've made!" *The next day, Rupert walks into Branborough, seeing Halflings all over the place. Halflings fishing, farming, cooking... It was a very busy Branborough day. As night had just started to fall, Rupert finished building his device just out of view from Branborough. He hit the switch, and the TNT flew straight up and made a large explosion midair, and a very loud sound. The residents of Branborough all marveled at the sight and wondered what it was. They went to investigate it in the direction they thought they saw it. As they reached the location of Rupert's device, Rupert explained to them what it was, what it did and how it did it. Rupert called his new device, "Fireworks."* ((OOC)) Okay, so this is the story of how my Halfling character who is an engineer, Rupert Herbwallow, created fireworks. Now, the story is a bit messed up because of Minecraft mechanics, specifically the part where he needed to ignite the end TNT or it blows every thing up, but for the most part it's realistic. For comments, I'd like you to post how your character would have reacted to the sight. I plan to use this vertical TNT cannon on the next Halfling holiday or celebration. It's perfectly safe, I tested it out before I made the post. It does look pretty awesome, though! Thanks for reading. :D
LaCabra (Soda) 1519 Share Posted September 3, 2012 Bili stomps up the Rupert, his eyebrows furrowed. He holds a plump finger up angrily, and says, "Where the 'eck d'ye ge' off? Stealin' me idea? An' they ain' called fireworks, they're called fiery colour-bombs!" ( I feel like a mega-jerk posting this. http://www.lordofthecraft.net/forum/index.php?/topic/60679-showers-of-blue-an-explosive-story/ I'd love to see your variation of fireworks in the next festival, though. :) Maybe this can lead up to a role-played feud between whose fireworks are better? )
