Lynesse {Celia/Jazzy} 398 Share Posted September 11, 2012 ~*~ Celia's Seven Golden Tips for New Players ~*~ [Also good reminders for older players and veterans as well!] Hello #LoTC~ I’ve recently come under the notice that more often, newer players are not reaching the standards of roleplayers and general people on the server. No, this isn’t an egg on the app team thread. In fact I think they do an amazing job, however roleplaying [and being part of a serious mature community] for the first time can be tricky and some guiding definitely helps. Noting this, I’ve prepared a guide with the quintessential for newer roleplayers so that they can improve their roleplay to a reasonable level. Of course, good roleplay also comes along with time. Tip 1 Grammar is an important part of roleplay. While my spelling and punctuation is not the greatest you do see that I make a bit of effort towards my writing and my roleplay. I’ve always believed that just using grammar in your roleplay is a great first impression of your abilities. Why, you might ask? Firstly, for clarity. Grammar is something that you’ve been taught since your wee little toddler days. Some may say that Lord of the Craft isn’t school and that using impeccable grammar every time you roleplay isn’t needed however I personally beg to differ. Bottom line and my opinion, just do it. It’s not that hard. Some may say that their character for example is a child or was raised illiterate. I don’t see this as an excuse to flop up on your grammar. If your character is a child you can do a “cute talk” accent. For example, instead of saying “can i have some water please?” you can enhance your roleplay by saying. “Mama, can I hab some wuter pwease?”. In short, periods and capital letters are a good thing and should be evident in your roleplay, regardless of how your character is. Tip 2 You can’t roleplay alone. What I find essential is that you find a place or a group to roleplay in and with. Whether it be a village, a town, or a guild. Having your character have either friends or enemies is needed for roleplay. You can’t just sit around at the cloud temple poking at rocks. Before you think about creating your own guild or town, try to join one first. There are already too many ghost towns. No where you think your character should settle, be a wanderer! Be infamous as a villain [Please wait a week after your implementation before applying for a villain application.]. Do something to continually have a group of people to roleplay with. Tip 3 This is a short tip but in my honest opinion, one of the most important ones. Lord of the Craft is not a MMORPG server, nor is it a PvP server. Don’t get engrossed in things like your stats so much that you forget about what you came on this server for, roleplay! Stats are useful for things like clearing mobs or being a merchant however roleplay is more important! Tip 4 Develop your character to develop your roleplay. Your character should be dynamic. Don’t set your character to one idea and only progress that way. An important note that I’ve learnt is that in roleplay, you should always roll with things. Understand your character and understand the lore around you, whether it be your town’s lore, your race’s lore, ect. An important note is that while your character is supposed to be original and different, be sure not to stray too far from lore. For example, there’s no point of playing a wood elf if you’re going to play him like a human with pointy years. Elves are supposed to be intellectual and scrawnier then humans. Tip 5 You don’t play to win on this server. You come here to roleplay. Roleplay essentially is telling, acting, and improvising out a story. Espcially in things like roleplay fighting, don’t try to purpously win, yet don’t try to lose on purpose either! Just do what would be reasonable, thinking in the mind of the villain. Remember, things that happen in roleplay have roleplay consequences and rewards. Lost something when you know truly in your mind that you’re wrong? Don’t egg on the person on the forums. Remember to keep your character’s emotions separate from your personal emotions. Things like this lead to people being butt-hurt and annoying on the forums, something that we really don’t want on our precious little server. Tip 6 Get involved, make a difference. Don’t sit around in your house in Arethor twiddling your thumbs. People only get famous [and infamous] for doing something! Have your character help out in town, buy a shop! Heck, run for a position on a council. Do something that makes your character notable. Just because you’re a peasant doesn’t mean you have to be absolutely useless. There’s always something you can do that other people haven’t yet. As surprising as it might be, people notice! Tip 6b The same thing can be said about OOC. If you GENUINALLY think that you’re ready to help the server then I encourage you to apply, whether it be app team, villain application team, or even a game moderator. However, I can’t stress enough that applying for one of these positions isn’t for swag or to be cool. People who apply and get accepted for that reason usually quit due to the work load or get kicked out for not doing their jobs properly. Just don’t apply right after you get accepted! Spend some time having fun roleplaying on the server before you jump to such decisions. The people who fill their positions exceptionally well treat their positions like jobs and duties! Tip 7 If you’re going to take any of my little tips to heart, take this one. Don’t be an intentional troll. Don’t cause stress in the community. Most people came to this server to roleplay but what kept them here is the amazing community that we have. If you’re going around intentionally causing grief, just please leave. Sometimes we say or do stupid things on the server. We’re humans [And part furry, cyborg, sloth, druid, ect ect. Remember to respect people’s opinions, don’t discriminate] and we make mistakes. If you’ve goofed up be sure to make amends before the drama comes down. If someone apologizes to you, don’t be an ignorant boob about it. People change, don’t maintain a negative opinion over someone forever because of something they did two months ago, it just creates tension. Remember to consider all factors. Don’t speak ignorantly. If you really have something bad to say, just keep it in you. We all have our opinions but sometimes we just really don’t want to hear yours. TL; DR Just treat people how you want to be treated. Having a nagging voice at the back of your mind continually tell you that until it’s drilled into your mind. Make people remember why we put the community in "Number 1 Roleplaying Community"! Conclusion Thanks for reading my post. Honestly, I sincerely hope that you do take something out of this. Being new here can be a little rough. If there is anything you need help with, you can always shoot me or pretty much anyone in this lovely community a PM and I’m sure we’ll be able to lend a helping hand. Don’t be intimidated by our large community [We’re actually extremely huggable!]. Happy roleplaying! ~Celia
