Out-Of-Character Details

Minecraft Account Name: SirSmithers

How old are you?: 17

Time-Zone/Country of Residence: United States - Eastern Standard Time

Do you have a good grip on English grammar and the English language?:

Indeed, I am well versed in both areas. They're the topics of my planned major, after all.

Have you had any previous experience in roleplaying?:

I've been roleplaying for nearly 6 years on various games. As of late, I'm moved to Minecraft roleplay due to the versatility of Minecraft roleplay and the dynamic, non-linear nature of the game itself. The combination of these different properties make for wonderful roleplay and, as such, this is probably what I'll stick with,

Have you read and understood and agree to the rules?:

I've read all of the rules and agree to abide by each of them.

How did you hear about the Lord of the Craft?:

I found about Lord of the Craft whilst searching for adequate roleplay servers on Minecraft; something unfortunately in very short supply. After lurking on the forums for about 2 months, I've finally decided that it's in my best interests to fill out a whitelist application.

Link any previous applications you have made to the Lord of the Craft: N/A

Have you posted this application on Minecraft Forum? If not, post it here:http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/832121-the-lord-of-the-craft-enter-the-world-of-asulon-o-f-f-i-c-i-a-l-l-y-t-h-e-n-o-1-r-p-s-e-r-v-e-r-100-unique-gameplay/!:

Rather unfortunately, I've been having technical troubles with my account. I'm currently conversing with Curse customer support representatives and will post my application on your forum thread as soon as these issues are sorted out.

Definitions

In your own words, define what the act of roleplaying is:

To roleplay is to essentially portray a character that you've created to your own specifications. You are the character and are expected to act as such. You take on the personality, habits, speech, etc. of the character that you've chosen and play the part appropriately.

In your own words, define what the act of meta-gaming is:

To meta-game is to use out-of-character information in-character. The vast majority of those who meta-game seek to use if to their own advantage. Meta-gamers are heavily looked down upon by all roleplayers; it is a form of cheating. Nothing more.

e.g. After reading an out-of-character thread about an incoming raid on the forums, John Smith logs on and warns citizens in-character than an attack is coming.

In your own words, define what the act of power-emoting is:

Power-emoting is a form of powerplaying, a most hated tactic among all roleplayers. To power-emote is to roleplay an action that essentially prohibits any further retaliation from the opposing party. Not only this, but through the use of power-emotes you run the risk of disturbing the roleplay of others. Not only will you be loathed for doing so, but to power-emote is also against the server rules.

e.g. *walking into the midst of the battle, John Smith releases a powerful destruction spell that immediately kills everybody in a 1000 meter radius.*

In-Character Details

Character Name: Silir'ilume

Character Race: High Elf

Character biography - Make this at least 2 paragraphs long, which must explain your character’s history, appearance, personality, age and any other details you deem necessary:

Born in Aegis to the two high elves Maethryl'dnea and Diluma'lilupa, Ka'vir lived what could be called a relatively peaceful life in Laurelin. The crown jewel of elven society, Laurelin was perhaps the best setting for such a young and ambitious High Elf. A sprawling treetop metropolis, Laurelin was filled to the brim with the cultures of all Elven races. Raised in the culturally brainwashing High Elven society, Ka'vir was led to believe that the High Elves held general superiority over all other races. With his mother both an author and goldsmith and his father an accomplished swordsman and prominent politician, Ka'vir set out to learn his family trades. From a young age, Ka'vir was instructed by his father in both the way of the swordsman and path to political influence. His mother, on the other hand, aided him in the road to becoming an accomplished philosopher; he'd decided to forego goldsmithing and concentrate solely on obtaining further knowledge. By the mere age of 40, Ka'vir was indeed a jack of many trades. Able to utilize a sword extremely effectively and his silver tongue even more so, Ka'vir gained much face within the elite society of the Mali'Aheral. Through constant practice and much reinforcement by his peers, by the age of 260 Ka'vir had become renown for his masterful skill of the sword and his general political influence. However, this era of peace and prosperity didn't last much longer.

So arrived the blight of the undead. Aegis as a whole had been overrun. The undead walked the lands freely, having claimed Aegis as their own. Laurelin, one of the last remaining footholds of civilization in the corrupted world, experienced great misfortune. Native, the High Prince of Malinor, aided Laurelin in its time of need. Eventually Native, in great glory, struck down one of the foul creatures; an undead by the name of Vardak. Upon his death, a great light appeared. Left in its place was a huge crater and a portal linking Aegis to the fiery hell of Iblees' realm. Severely shocked by this occurrence, the nations of Aegis unified and drew up their most skilled fighters to send into the portal. Two of those who were drafted were Maethryl'dnea and Diluma'lilupa, the parents of Ka'vir. It was a tearful separation with many assurances, but in the end it was obvious that things looked reasonably bleak. The champions entered the portal. Ka'vir waited and waited... until all surviving champions had returned. His parents were not among them. After waiting for many hours longer, Ka'vir came to a conclusion; his parents weren't coming back and it would be futile to stall any longer. With the rest of the refugees, Ka'vir travelled to the portal to the Verge and from there to Asulon. However, in a memoir to two elves who had brought him so far in life, Ka'vir changed his name. No longer would he be known as Ka'vir. Now, he was known only as Silir'ilume; an elvish name that translates directly into "The Mourning Swordsman". 52 years later, Silir'ilume is still relatively young by elven terms. Having been out of touch of other High Elves for a few years, Silir'ilume is looking to re-integrate himself into High Elven society. He has recently heard of Haelen'or, the grand capital of the High Elves, and is looking to fulfill his every ambition in this land of equal opportunity.

Currently at the age of 317, Silir'ilume is much younger than some. A social and rather philosophical individual, Silir'ilume spends his time debating current events issues with others and pursuing further knowledge of the world. Confident in nearly everything, Silir'iilume faces the world with a silver tongue and sword in hand. Though he retains the High Elven values of general superiority, Silir'ilume recognizes the importance of the other races of Asulon and holds some respect for them. Aiming to solve things diplomatically and advance further in the world of politics, Silir'ilume mingles with the other races frequently to maintain a vast knowledge of current events and issues. He looks as a wood elf should, with several defining aspects. He has a head of well-kept, golden blonde hair that he prides himself in. His skin is relatively pale, with a golden hue characteristic of most wood elves. His eyes are a deep blue and reflect the vast amounts of knowledge gained throughout his lifetime. Silir'ilume wears fine silk robes trimmed with blue and gold on nearly every occasion. After all, when attempting to sway the course of Asulon's current events in their entirety one must look the part.

What are your characters ambitions?:

Silir'ilume holds many ambitions, some of which are more prominent than others. Mainly, he aims to assimilate properly back into High Elven society. After doing such, Silir'ilume wishes to pursue a path of politics, literature and philosophy whilst further mastering the art of swordsmanship.

Is there anything else you would like to say about your character:

I've attempted to stay true to High Elven habituals and culture whilst writing both my ORQ responses and biographies. If you notice anything amiss, please don't hesitate to inform me; I don't want to start of roleplaying in-game with incorrect information.

Open-Response-Questions

Each question here must be answered with a minimum of one full paragraph, and detail the scene you are given in the way it would happen in roleplay. These questions should be answered in first person. Be detailed, not short.

Upon entering the Mighty Human City of Arethor, you come across a shop-keeper calling out to sell his wares to passers-by. The shopkeeper is not a Human, he is a poor dwarf looking to make a living in a new city. What is your response?

Whilst visiting the grand city of Arethor on business, I happen across a rather unfortunate dwarf peddling his goods on the side of the road. Inquiring as to the nature of his wares, I'm quickly informed that he's selling dwarven metalwork of the highest quality. Scanning his stall, a single piece catches my eye; a fine diamond sword with golden engravings of the highest quality. I pick of the weapon, handling it delicately and admiring the way that the light refracts off the surface. Placing a large bag of Minas on the counter, I take the sword and walk away without a word.

You’re wandering the Oren Road late at night, when a large Orc begins to threaten a nearby dwarf. There is no help nearby, and the situation looks like it will escalate into violence soon, what does your character do?

Wandering down the Oren Road on one of my nightly excursions, I notice a rather curious situation off in the distance; an escalating conflict between a stout dwarf and a brutish Orc. Observing for a moment, I notice the debate escalating further. The Orc and the dwarf are now roaring at one another, hands grasping for the pommels of their weapons. Glowering in distaste at the irrationality of the two, I turn away. As it is no business of mine, I see no need to intervene in this argument between lesser races. Leaving the two to their own devices, I continue on my way.

Whilst walking down the road to Malinor, you stumble upon an old man. His walking stick , looks weak and frail, and just as you are about to ask something, the stick breaks, and the man falls to the ground. As he falls down, a bag of Minas falls to the ground, and splits open. As you watch the multiple coins spill out, you peer down at the defenceless man. What does your character do?:

Returning from my trip to Arethor, I notice an aging man approaching me on the road. Curious as to why such a frail being was traveling alone, I begin to ask a question. Snap! Just as I open my mouth, the man's walking stick breaks and he falls face first into the road, coins scattering left and right. Question forgotten, I snort in disgust and leave the old man wallowing in the dust. What use is an individual in society who cannot pull even his own weight? The answer is simple: absolutely none. A man such as this serves as more of a liability than anything and his existence does nothing to benefit the whole. Such a being does not deserve my company; not even for a moment.
