hex37 737 Share Posted November 7, 2012 Out-Of-Character Details Minecraft Account Name: Hex37 How old are you?: 19 Time-Zone/Country of Residence: EST/USA Do you have a good grip on English grammar and the English language?: Yes Have you had any previous experience in roleplaying?: I have been apart of 3 minecraft RP servers so far. The first was Ragnarok; Songs of Discord. I never really left Ragnarok, and I think I never will. Most of everything I have learned about RP and the manipulation thereof I have learned in Ragnarok. It has been, unfortunately, been under construction for the better part of 4 months now, so I'm looking elsewhere. The second was Assassin's Creep, a Renaissance Italy Assassin's Creed remake. I left that server promptly after I discovered that it was quite literally owned and operated by 13 year olds, and featured some very uncomfortable rp-situations. That combination weirded me out more than a little, and I left as a result. The third server I joined for RP was Dragonsreach. It had a good premise, but the players on the server focused more on factions than RP, and often put it before actual story. Have you read and understood and agree to the rules?: Yes. How did you hear about the Lord of the Craft?: Word-of-mouth. Link any previous applications you have made to the Lord of the Craft: Last app from a very long time ago. It wasn't on the forums, so I linked the minecraft forum post. Have you posted this application on Minecraft Forum? If not, post it here: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/832121-the-lord-of-the-craft-enter-the-world-of-asulon-o-f-f-i-c-i-a-l-l-y-t-h-e-n-o-1-r-p-s-e-r-v-e-r-100-unique-gameplay/! :My link Definitions In your own words, define what the act of roleplaying is: Roleplaying is a method of telling a story with many people at once. Good roleplay is when you can successfully build a believable story with the people you're around. The best kind of roleplay only happens in a very fleeting moment, where for a split second, the entire scene happening in game seems nearly real. In your own words, define what the act of meta-gaming is: Metagaming is when you take knowledge you couldn't possibly know in character and acting upon it, breaking the fourth wall and usually generating HORRIBLE RP. In your own words, define what the act of power-emoting is: Powergaming happens when you try to force your version of a scenario on another player. Usually, this devolves into a very shitty "NUH UH, YUH HUNH" scenario not uncommon on kindergarten playgrounds all across the world. Power-emoting is an extension of this, where you implement damaging acts with an emote, without giving the other player a chance to have their character react. In-Character Details Character Name: Devin "Devry" Ryder Character Race: Human Character biography - Make this at least 2 paragraphs long, which must explain your character’s history, appearance, personality, age and any other details you deem necessary: In the past, Devry was an ambitious businessman with an investment opportunity simply couldn't pass up. He was the new courier who was supposed to pick up the new shipment of armor you just ordered. Devry *ahem* Devin Ryder the Third, I mean, was once a wealthy aristocrat who sold off his land at a one-time low price. Confused yet? Devry isn't. "Devry" (A shortening of his full name, DEVin RYder) once made an entire lifestyle out of being able to look and sound like all these things, and many more. He's an ex-con man, by nature and trade, and at one time he was a pretty damn good one. To him, putting on a different persona is as easy as putting on a different pair of shoes, though occasionally he wishes he could put on a new life too. Devry's REAL identity is, to him, an unbearably humble one. Devin Ryder began his life in a troupe of traveling thespians. His parents, though quite caring (in their own sardonic way), never could get a handle on their little Devin while he was growing up. He had a reputation for being wild, yellow-eyed devil, and an even bigger reputation for playing pranks on other actors in his troupe. At the tender age of 5, when Devin was finally old enough to take the stage, he took to it like a fish in water; but found it lacking. Being a naturally indignant kid, he thought his skill was wasted on his troupe's small stage on the back of a dinky cart. He wanted something bigger for himself in life. I bigger stage, a bigger payout and a bigger audience. By 16, he felt himself ready enough to try using his skills on the biggest stage imaginable; Valnor itself. Apparently, he wasn't. He was caught red handed the first time he tried to con someone out of their Virae. He managed to escape, but his little farce was enough for the entire town to hear about it by the day's end. He had reached an impasse; the local law was out to make an example of him, but he'd rather hang himself than so much as look at his parents again. Eventually, he resolved to strike out on his own. That was about 5 years ago. In that time, Devry made more mistakes in life than he could count or like to recount. He never gave up on trying to act his way into the big leagues, however. In that time he had earned himself nothing more than bumps, bruises, and hard time in jail. The last time he got out of jail was only about a year ago. This time, he hopes for a fresh start. Gods forbid, maybe this time he'll take up an honest job. He can sew, maybe he'll be a tailor. Today, Devry is roughly 5'10, and looks to be in his late twenties. What he's wears is very rarely constant, but tends to revolve around a long-sleeve shirt and slacks. Usually, he will be wearing a hat of some sort that does it's best to shade his bright yellow eyes. It's rather noticeable shade that he's found to be more of a curse than a blessing over the years. Almost always, he will be smiling a weird beam. What are your characters ambitions?: Devry wants to be rich, and he wants to outsmart the best. He wants to trick the trickster, blind the eye of justice, and make faces at kings and queens. His ambition has no upper limit; his pride drives him to forever be trying to be something more, until he dies. Please provide an in-game screenshot of your skin here: Is there anything else you would like to say about your character: He's funny, and he makes moves you'd never expect, kind of like a weasel. Open-Response-Questions Each question here must be answered with a minimum of one full paragraph, and detail the scene you are given in the way it would happen in roleplay. These questions should be answered in first person. Be detailed, not short. Upon entering the Mighty Human City of Arethor, you come across a shop-keeper calling out to sell his wares to passers-by. The shopkeeper is not a Human, he is a poor dwarf looking to make a living in a new city. What is your response? Devin would definitely take a look at his wares. A dwarf in a human city, especially a new dwarf in a human city, is going to be starting out with low prices, and Devin knows how to make a desperate shopkeeper haggle prices even further. Plus, he can make a bonus on the resell simply by stating that they're "exotic goods from Aeroch Nor." He'd approach the shopkeeper casually, waiting for the shopkeeper to ask him if he needs anything. Devin would take that as a direct cue to introduce himself, his trade, his status with the ladies, and inquire about the prices of what he sells. You’re wandering the Oren Road late at night, when a large Orc begins to threaten a nearby dwarf. There is no help nearby, and the situation looks like it will escalate into violence soon, what does your character do? The first thing Devry would do is cuss. Under his breath, of course, and only because he'd have to get his coat dirty to pull this one off. It'd be totally worth it though, he knew. He'd drop his coat on the side of the road, place his prized beret lightly atop it, roll up the sleeves of his undershirt, ruffle his hair a bit, and maybe get a little fresh dirt on it. The result would be that worn look common to a bandit living in the countryside. Finally, after prepping himself properly, he'd get their attention. Predictably, would ask what the **** Devry wants. Devry would identify them vaguely as the one orc he heard were hanging around the Oren Road. Using some knowledge he picked up about one of the larger raiding parties in the area, Devry would then tell him that those guys were buildin up for somethin big at Cloud Temple (they weren't) and were havin him look around for some muscle(he wasn't.) He'd then ask if the orc would like to be that muscle. Asking for a monetary finder's fee (Only a small amount; nothing too much; Half now, half when you get there, ya?), he'd then direct the orc to a very, very fake meetup point where this recruitment stuff was going down. After he got the brute to leave, he'd then give the dwarf a sly wink, and tell him to be thankful that Ole Devry came along when he did. The Dwarf would think he was a smug chap, the orc would soon want him to be a dead chap (only after getting lost in the forest), and Devry would get to pocket some cash on the side. Everybody wins! Whilst walking down the road to Malinor, you stumble upon an old man. His walking stick , looks weak and frail, and just as you are about to ask something, the stick breaks, and the man falls to the ground. As he falls down, a bag of Minas falls to the ground, and splits open. As you watch the multiple coins spill out, you peer down at the defenceless man. What does your character do?:Devin, being a seasoned con-man, thief, liar, and general hoodlum for most of his life would do what comes naturally to him. He would help the old man up. He would then help him, by hand, all the way to Malinor, and make a big show of coming into the front gate. Afterwards, He'd have the codger treat him to a drink, all the while asking about Malinor and collecting juicy information known only to old men and locals. ...What? Carrying a defenseless old man when entering a city for the first time is a perfect way to not only get in good the guards, but with the ladies too. You can't argue with the ladies. Volutional 935 Share Posted November 8, 2012 _____________________________________________________________-Thank you for applying, and giving me something nice to read!-I must recommend however, in order to con somebody you must have a Villain Application. Once you've got your bearings on the server and the lore, I suggest taking a look at those in order to fully get the best out of your experience. Remember that you cannot commit villainous crimes (like killing, and conning and lying for your own benefit) without a Villain Application.-Thank you again, and well done. Welcome to Asulon :)_____________________________________________________________
