Confidence

You find a note nailed to the High Prince's Tree home, and you pause to read it.

Confidence. This is what we, the elves, should have in the High Council of the Holy Princedom of Malinor, which has ruled us fairly for centuries. But, I for one, have none left in it. This recent even, in which a group of heavily armored bandits litterally waltzed into the Mali settlement and took over the Mali'Aheral district after chasing elves everywhere, is both unacceptable and pathetic. I was there, and I did everything I could to stop elves from charging at the attckers with nothing but crudely made weapons. There was no leadership from the council, they merely stared blankly, unsure of what to do. They could not see the reason of retreating what we had, a handful of unarmored elves and dwarves, away from within immediate striking distance of the bandits, who had by then taken up residence in the Mali'Aheral district. The current council has failed us, in their first and foremost duty, to protect the citizens of Malinor against foreign invasion. They have failed to take threats seriously, instead spending time building elaborate treehouses for one individual while so many elves are still homeless. They are foolish, relying on others to protect Malinor when we should be striving to protect ourselves. Well, today, we have seen that in the short term, the dwarves cannot protect us. I warned the council and the dwarves that an armed party could storm into Malinor, killing elves and burning the city. That has happened today, and my attempts to head of this tragedy were down down by a dwarven wrecking team. This is not jus the elven council's fault, but all of ours, for trusting them to protect us. It was misplaced trust, and it would be foolish to invest it so easily in those who have failed us. In Aegis, when I served on the Council, my fellow council members refused to fortify Laurelin against the Undead, and because of that, the city fell almost without a fight. These current council members claim to be former wardens, claim to have taken serious out military int eh past, but where were the wardens when Laurelin required protection? They were off, kilometres away, building elaborate wooden forts as elven blood ran in the streets. Upon my ascension to the council, the wardens were promptly disbanded, and the Vanguard formed, and while they were not perfect, in Laurelin, under council supervision, they did a much better job protecting us than these sentinels. We, the elves, as a people, have not taken our survival s seriously. We have been in a constant state of decline for a hundred years, repeatedly trying the same strategy of poorly dealing with things when they happen, not trying to avert disaster. Why do you think so many elves live in Oren? It is because they at least feel safe there, not the same can be said of anyone living in Malinor. I know what the Council will do next, they will meet, take a few people suggestions, implement one or two of them, and wait for the next crisis, not attempting to solve the Nation's many problems. And we will be in the same position in a seed or two, unable to defend ourselves, feed ourselves, shelter ourselves, or flee from an unstoppable enemy.

Signed, in green ink:

Ebs, Former Fourth Prince of Malinor

((Please keep responses RP, there is no need for an OOC argument, this is strictly rp))

*Khel post a letter next to his, a bit annoyed and angered*

Lliran,

This man I have served under many years ago, I respected him and gallantly defended him as a warden. In some forms he is correct, the councils have betrayed the people. However, not this council. The council's of the past have made this mistake, not us. It's their actions that still linger upon us, the actions of the foolish council, Sythra's council.

We have made peace with the uruk. We no long wage an unending war with them. In past they were a constant threat; however, this council has been able to end this conflict by putting away our selfish pride which has ruined this nationWe have once again reformed malinor to what it once was. Mali'aheral and mali'ker now walk together in the streets as equals. Malinor is united now, the path to regrowth has been set.The military has been reformed. A passive hand has been chosen to sit in the seat of High Commander. The council that currently stands is very new. We have made more progress than all the ones before us. Change is coming across the horizon. In a few years, we have done all this.

I ask you, where was elder Ebs when the flays attacked? Where was he when the mori enslaved us daily? where was he when the unending war with the uruk threatened our very lives. This man was never present. He left malinor, he abandoned malinor. I have not seen or heard his name in a centry and now he appears to give critism which is uneeded. One cannot speak when he does not even know the situation. Progress has been made, selfish pride has been put aside. Wars have ended. I promise to you, the reason for this attacked will be fixed, the council is quite aware why this happened, the problem will be removed very shortly.

-Councilman Khel Oussana

I was always watching Malinor, but I chose not to act, as I had my time in power, and it was the next generation of leader's turn. Yes, I did leave Malinor for a time to found Haleun'or, but my intention when founding it was that it should become a province of Malinor. However, when it came down to a vote of the people, the Mali'Aheral decided they wished for independence, and I am not one to quit when I do not gert my way. Throughout my life, I have always been a critic, and I am one of the nonly elves willing to express their opinions in such a way that hurry can be debated and discussed. I am always open to others criticism, but unlike you, I do not launch personal attacks against one person when I cannot win the argument. What happened was unacceptable, and I am just as disapointed in myself for failing to prevent it, even if I was the only one trying. I cannot stand guard every day to prevent the dwarves from tearing down the only defense we had. Would that single gate have stopped them? Now, we can never be sure. It was not through any leadership or any attempt by the elves pr dwarves that the invaders left. No, they left as they came, nearly unopposed. I am not calling for the disolution fo the councio, or that I should be catapulted to a position of power, but that in the interest of our survival the elves need to change. I simply have no confidence in my current leaders, hopefully, that can be rectified through action, not reaction. This land we arrived in is a hostile one, void of many of the resources we need. This land may be our temporary home, but I refuse to believe that our people, the graceful Mali, are destined to live atop another nation's mountain in fear of the world around us, natural and political.

*Another note has been posted*

Again llir. We know the cause of the attack. In a few days time I assure you, all will know what caused it, and the problem will be solved. It was a mistake of a past council, not the mistake of ours. However, this new council has inherited the problem, it will be dealt with.
