This guide provides steps on how to download and use an update controller, not how to install a new .jar file. However, here's a legal copy for those who know how to use it and wish to take the simpler path, provided by the ever-helpful Enyahs:

Preface:

I know there have been a few topics like this, but they all seem to be either outdated or a little dodgy. I thought I'd provide everyone with an up-to-date, safe, and easy-to-use update controller. It is appropriately named "MC Downgrader."

Now, down to business.

BEFORE WE BEGIN - A WARNING:

Patching with this tool gets rid of any previously installed mods. You will have to re-install whatever mods you were using.

If you were using Hawk's Mod Pack, you may have to re-install the installation software for that as well.

Requirements:

1. Internet connection.

2. Any file managing software. This guide will be using 7-Zip.

Procedure:

Step 1: Download MC Downgrader. A link to the MC forum page is provided here: (CLICK)

Step 2: Open up the .zip folder (MCD_3_3.zip) and extract the files. If you're using 7-zip, you'll see something that looks like this:

The extract button is circled in red. Just click on that and set your target folder. I just sent them to my desktop.

Step 3: Click on your new icon, which should have the name "MCDowngrader". This should open up a window that looks like this:

Step 4: Select which version of Minecraft you want:

Step 5: Click the Download button. This will download the patch file for your chosen version of minecraft.

Step 5: Click the Patch button.

Step 6: Log in to LotC.
