Shadeleaf 1022 Share Posted March 15, 2013 Hello there Lotc!! Well I figured I may as well try my hand at a guide. This one shall be covering MultiMC, a custom launcher which allows for multiple .minecrafts folders, each with separate mods, settings, icons, heck even mod packs! All within the confines of a simple little launcher, website can be found here http://forkk.net/MultiMC4/. Installation/basics! SO I will begin with actually downloading the program, links below for each operating system: Windowshttp://adf.ly/606771/mmc4win Machttp://adf.ly/606771/mmc4mac64 Linux86http://adf.ly/606771/mmc4linux86 Linux64http://adf.ly/606771/mmc4linux64 Once you have your version of the program, drag the .exe upon your desktop, or where ever you want it, and run it as such, it should look something like this: You should get the usual messages, trust all of them as this is a legitimate launcher. Instance Crafting!! Now that you have the Launcher, time to actually get to work with making your instances. When opened, the program should look like this, just with less clutter, and by that I mean a white screen :P On top of the tool bar you should see this icon: When clicked it will display a drop down menu like this, most of which I hope is self explanatory. If you are simply importing an existing .Minecraft in, follow the necessary steps, if you on the other hand accidentally updated (Silly goose...), click "Add a new instance". You will then be displayed something like this: You can then name your instance by clicking on the instance name, and more importantly change your version with the "Change version" button, the list will initially look something like this: From here you can scroll around a bit until you find the correct version, or get a little adventurous by pressing this button> %C2%A0] < which can launch you all the way back to Alpha 1.04. You may be asking though, "Arzota, how do we edit the .minecraft's themselves?" Well I was getting to that, hold your horses. To do said modding right click on one of your new instance Icons and a menu as such shall be displayed: Personally I prefer the rebuild jar option, but you could probably use the normal edit mods as well. Okay so, basics covered, so far we know how to make, mod, and import instances as well as the more mundane aspects of MultiMC, if you wish continue below where I will get into the more nitty-grtty aspects of it. Modding!! Alright, now to everyone's favorite bit of Minecraft, Mods! If you have any experience with the MagicLauncher then you should have a decent idea of how this works. To start, right click on your Instance and select "Edit Mods": Once you select this, the control panel for the entire instance should pop out, and look something like this: This is the key to everything ^, as you can see, it has access to all internal bits of the .minecraft folder in one touch. From there, you probably want to install Modloader or Forge. For forge in particular, this is made easy with this button: Pretty self-explanatory, but when clicked it should display something like this which you can pick a version from: Now onto Modloader... Modding here s much easier than with a normal Minecraft client, as all you have to do is download the mod in zip form: And drag and drop it into the mod section: From there on, I don't think I need to document every step, but just a few ending notes here. First off, you always wish to have either Modloader or Forge [THEY DO NOT WORK AT THE SAME TIME :I]at the top of the list, as that is the first thing that gets loaded, providing a base for all other mods to work on. Also, you will notice that there is the option to move mods up and down on the priority list, this is useful for when you encounter an error in the console, as it may be do to disordered mods. I CAN NOT STRESS THIS LAST POINT ENOUGH. If you Are getting errors in the console, remember to always press the "Kill Minecraft" Button at the bottom, because if you simply X out of the console, it shall stay open in the background, and disallow you from making any changes to the MInecraft folder. The only ways to fix this are to either go manually into the task manager and clean up the clutter of "javaw.exe"'s, or restart your computer. Settings!! Here we go then! We will be staring with the general settings tab which looks like >%C2%A0] < on the tool bar. When clicked this comes up: Definitions as followsGUI Style; Changes GUI from normal to this: Sorting mode: Sorts depending on selected. Language: Changes language of instance. Update Settings: Easy enough to understand. Folders: Where everything is located. Java Settings!! For all your techy ones, you can explore the other tabs, but I would like to point out the "Java" tab. If you are familiar with Batch files, then you will know what this looks like: Currently, this is set to have a very low amount of memory used, if you think you your computer can handle it, try experimenting with some of the values below, they ultimately add more memory to Minecraft to cut out on lag and other crashing issues. 2GB; Min: 1024 Max: 20483GB; Min: 1536 Max: 30724GB; Min: 2048 Max: 40965GB; Min: 2560 Max: 51206GB; Min: 3072 Max: 61447GB; Min: 3584 Max: 71688GB; Min: 4096 Max: 8192 Icons!! My personal favorite here, finally a way to figure out the differences between instances! When right clicking on an instance, there will be a "Change Icon" option, from here this will be displayed: Simply click on an icon and hit okay, the "Add Icon" and "Remove Icon" are only of use when importing or deleting icons, they are of no use when changing. And on that note, I do think I am done here! Report any bugs or screw ups of mine in a response, and other than that I hope this has been useful!
