Spiraling Out Of Control

The room, now completely dark, made Laila to reflect on the last few years of her life. She went from a not so innocent young girl to a dark, cold hearted assassin. Now all she wanted was the man she loved back with her, holding her. Her eyes closed as the bindings on her wrist seemed to tighten. The tears she had shed for her lost love stripped away at her heart slowly. Yes, she never knew it was possible to love a man. Before, she saw men as cruel monsters who took advantage of women. Drunk men were the worst to her, she hated how they would try to force themselves on women, thinking they could get far.

No, that wasn’t the problem. No it wasn’t until she met Azel that her life changed. She decided he would be a wonderful target to attack. After that first meeting, she had spent her time trying to destroy him while picking off others slowly and painfully. Her first elven kill was a young sentinel initiate named Aenor. While he was one of her best tortures, he quickly became her first friend. She regretted killing him when she joined the sentinels. After then she began trying to change her life around.

She had managed to find real love with someone but the nightmares began to start. Azel had kept her close, training her in fighting to make her stronger, while helping her keep her desires for torturing down to a minimum. Things worked well for her, until she met a certain high elf. Yes, that’s why she was in the room. She had killed an innocent. A girl. Laila closed her eyes as she tried to push back the fear that she saw in the girl’s eyes. It bothered her to no end that the girl had been killed. How many innocents had she killed now?

The room seemed to close in on her as she opened her eyes. Room, no. It was a closet she was in. The darkness pressing in on her dark red orbs. Her body shook as everything crashed in on her. She had taken the life of innocents. Lost all she had cared about. She shook her head, trying to block out the pain and fear she felt. “Azel…” she muttered into the darkness. He had kept her demon at bay, kept her happy. Now he was gone and she was reverting, going back to the darkness that had once consumed her heart. She shivered as she remembered every detail of that night, the night that caused all of this torture she herself faced.

Isabella shouldn’t have been there. No, she shouldn’t have watched. She should have ran when Laila killed Aislinn. The torture was not working and Aislinn was not screaming. She had lost herself in a rage. When she heard there was someone near, she lost all sense of logic and killed the young druid. Her rage blinding her as she attacked, forcing the crippled druid into submission, poisoning her and walking away. Guild slipped into Laila’s heart as she sat there. Her eyes slowly losing focus as she looked up into the darkness of the room.

A figure seemed to appear. “K-Kaila?” she asked as she looked up at the young dark elf. The bright ice blue eyes staring into Laila with sadness and pity. Laila shook her head trying to force away the vision. As she looked back, Kaila had slowly moved closer, her eyes still showing pity. “Kaila…why?” she whimpered as the younger dark elf backed away. Her words lost on her as she slipped back into the darkness, vanishing. “KAILA!” Laila screamed into the darkness. Angry she forced herself to her feet, trying to throw herself into the wall.

The pain shooting up her body was nothing compared to the pain in her heart. Kaila, her sister, her first and only true friend, had left her once more. Pain surged through her as she let out a scream. She fell to her knees and sobbed as her mind began to shatter. The walls she had built to protect herself were crumbling, leaving her exposed, weak. She cried harder as her mind showed her images of people she had killed, people she had lost, people who had left her.

Kaila, her sister, she had killed with her own two hands.
Meela, her mother, killed by men who wanted nothing more than her blood and the minas.
Alos, her father, left because of the murder she had done.
Aenor, tortured and murdered when Laila first moved to Kalos.
Faerue, tortured and murdered when he spoke bad of Vuugush, her first lover.
Dante, her cousin, murdered for his crimes against his child.
Unborn child, Vuugush’s cub, died during the trip to Asulon.
Vuugush, her lover, left him to stay in Malinor, trying to change her ways.
Azel, her fiancé, the one man she loved, left and presumed murdered.
Ceruleh, her and Azel’s son, given to his guardian for safeguarding.
Aislinn, her torturer, hate filling his unstable mind over the kiss she had given him.

Laila closed her eyes as the darkness clouded her mind. How many more had she killed that did not deserve to die? She slowly opened her eyes, staring into the darkness. How long had Aislinn left her alone to her misery? A day? Two days? She could not tell, the darkness had stopped her from being able to tell time. She shivered as she slowly fell to her side, unable to think. As her mind clouded, the darkness in her heart returned.

How much longer would she last before she would lose herself completely either to the darkness or the madness?

Aislinn sits in his bed, sighing. Two empty bottles sit next to him, and he's already working on a third. He grits his teeth, reflecting on the past few days.

She wasn't supposed to die, that was never supposed to happen! How could it happen? Isabella was kind to everyone, and most people showed her kindness in return. He only saw her get hurt a few times, but even then he could hardly control himself. She didn't deserve this. It was..

Laila...

Aislinn takes another drink, shuddering as he thinks of her.

Laila did this. He should have stayed away when he had the chance. He recalls the first time they met. For some reason she was compelled to drag him to the Sentinel barracks, to the jail, as he was bleeding to death. Maybe he should have died, then this would have never happened. The torture was mild and endurable, but they shouldn't have met afterwards. Again and again, he kept returning. To prove himself, to accept her challenge that she gave to him in that jail cell.

And the playing. All the playing, all the fun they had together. Aislinn could handle himself getting tortured, getting killed. Aenor too, at least the two men could defend themselves. But Isabella, she didn't deserve it.

And it's all about who deserves what. That's what Markin said. He remembers - Markin had the man strapped to a table. It was a White Rose, but neither of them knew who he was. His shirt was off, and Markin had drawn lines on the man's chest with charcoal. "Cut the lines, hold it steady!", he had commanded. Aislinn didn't know what to do.. he couldn't disobey Markin, his father. The only man who ever showed him kindness. He gritted his teeth, sinking the blade into the man's flesh.

"He deserved it." Markin's words consoled him as he began his work on Laila. She deserved it, every bit of it. How many times had she killed him? Killed Aenor? She even killed Isabella! All the innocent lives she had taken were for nothing, and Aislinn had to teach her that.

The physical torture didn't work well. How could it, since Laila enjoyed the pain? Psychological torture.. that is what he needed to do. What Markin told him - "Keep them isolated.. alone.. and in the dark, and their minds will take care of the rest."

And that is what he did.

Aislinn finishes the third bottle, his head reeling. His thoughts quickly begin to drift, and he feels that he will pass out soon.

Only one thought remained as he slowly drifted to sleep. What if he was ineffective? What if Laila didn't get the message. You don't hurt innocents, and you don't get near Isabella.

His final thoughts are of what he will do next, and he passes out, the bottle rolling out of his hand onto the floor.
