History:

Age 0-5

Kaila was born under extreme circumstances. A series of events sent her mother into an early labor that nearly killed Laila and the twins. Kaelys was born first, strong and healthy. Her mother was quickly weakening when Kaila was born. At first Kaila did not cry. Zane, the mage had been there to help with the delivery while her father stood and watched on in horror. After several long, agonizing minutes, Kaila finally started to cry. Relief filled the room as Zane cleaned them and passed them to Garth. However the worst had yet to come. Laila's body had been through so much that she was physically dying from the labor. Even with the strain it would put on him, Zane helped Laila heal, and in return he became the court clergy (whether he knew it or not).

Over the next few years, Laila and Garth spoke of what to do to keep the children safe. They spoke of sending them away to study but soon decided on a better plan. Khel would be teaching the children the way of the dark elves, to keep that part of their family history alive. As they aged, Kaila became more aware and it was evident quickly that she was very bright. She could pick up on the smallest parts of a conversation and understand most of what was said. She was soon introduced to Khel who quickly became her favorite "Unnkie". Several times she would sneak out of the keep to go play with her Uncle Khel. However when Khel had brought her home one day, there was an arguement. Kaila slipped out of the keep and was found by two men.

Being only four at the time, all she cared about was the cookies they had offered her. Following them, she started to become aware of what was happening. She began begging to see her father but they would not listen until she was moved. It was then she realized how serious her situation was. Her captors had used her as leverage against Khel and tried to kill her before Khel could reach her. Luckily she left with just a minor cut that was quickly healed. For the rest of the year, she stayed hidden in the keep, until her curiosity and desire to explore got the better of her.

She found herself climbing, having seen Khel do it before, and got onto the roofs. She spent much time up there until Khel found her and told her not to do so anymore. It was during her trip out of the palace that things got more serious. She was coming home after giving some cake to Zane as a thank you for helping her. As she entered a halfling and a gobo were in her father's chair. A small argument ensued and Kaila ended up taking a sharpened shovel to the face. Both the halfling and the gobo ran, trying to hide. As her father took her outside, she pointed out the halfling and the gobo, saying they were the ones who hurt her. Princess Ari had spoken the names of both, but Kaila only stored one into memory. "Renny".

After a healing session to save her eye and her face from irreversible damage, Kaila began feeling a strange itch. She had heard stories of Malinor and that Khel was there. She tried to go to "Malimer" but the guards would not let her. Instead she gained a new teacher, Cir'dian, who would begin teaching her about the elements and many other things. After her lesson, she sneaked out of Salvus to try and find Malinor. On her way, she was stopped by three men on horseback. Fitzroy and Lowedge. Names she will never forget, as well as the voices. The men quickly decided to play toss with the small five year old.

As she screamed for her father and khel, anyone who could help her, they proceeded to cut off her ear tips. She screamed till her throat hurt but no one came to her aid. After her ears were severed, she was thrown roughly to the ground. The men galloped off yelling "Blue Stripes" as they went. In pain and alone, Kaila was left near the market just outside of the Rose checkpoint. It was a long while before someone found her and helped her home. Guards were sent out to find these "Blue Stripes" and bring them to justice. One of the guards took Kaila to the monks to have her ears fully restored.

As she returned she found Khel and told him everything that had happened. After much talking, Khel took her to Malinor to help ease her curiosity and to teach her many things that came with being part Mali. As he returned her home, Kaila could not help but be excited about what she was going to learn next about the world, however, she quickly learned she would not be able to leave Salvus by herself, but this did not stop her from wanting to learn everything she could about the world and its people.

Age 6-10

Age 6

As Kaila slowly grew, she continues to excel in her studies with Cir'Dian. Having found a friend in reading, Kaila began reading the books in the library and often going out to meet people in the square. Raktar, a goblin, had managed to set his eyes on Kaila and begun begging to be her wife. Kaila, too kind to say no, and too naive to understand, told him to ask her father, whome quickly sent the young goblin away. Kaila took the time to spend with her teacher. However, her life slowly started changing for the worse one fateful day when she was six. Roses came into Salvus just to show off their might. Kaila, fearing armored men still, hid behind her beloved teacher.

As the men turned to leave, Thomas Chivay turned and spotted her hiding behind Cir'dian. After some words a fight broke out, causing Kaila to flee from her teacher's side. As she turned back to watched, things went from bad to worse. Soon her teacher was on the ground and consumed in fire. Mortified but what she was watching, Kaila we eventually pulled away and comforted by several people. Days went by and Kaila soon saw her teacher again in good health. Confused as to how he was back, she pushed it off as a bad dream. However, her sixth year quickly proved to be a bad year. As she and her brother wandered the Salvus square, an assassin set his eyes on them.

Kaelys had pushed her out of the way, however as the bolt was fired, her brother was in its sight. Striking him in the shoulder, Kaila watched in horror as his small body tried to fight off the pain. A druid came to his aid, but had killed her brother instead. Unable to cope with her brother's death, Kaila hid in the keep until Lillian calmed her. Again the concept of the monks was lost on the young six year old as Kaelys returned, unharmed. It wasn't long after that her father decided to take them on an "adventure" which quickly turned into tragic and frightening experience. The old house outside of Salvus had been burned down and a passage way was seen.

Garth took Kaila and Kaelys into the house with a few others. However, being six and very curious children, the traps within the house were sprung. Kaelys was quickly trapped in a room while spikes injured a few others in another room. In the end, they left with only a book for their troubles. Days turned to weeks, weeks into months and Kaila became more and more fascinated with the world around her. She began climbing trees and sitting on the rooftops. On one of her escapades, she found herself face to face with an assassin, a man named Thalin. Her eyes watched him as he aimed and shot a man. At first she thought he would turn the crossbow on her, however when he turned back to finish off his target, she ran over and pushed him off.

Although he walked away without injury, she knew he would not forget the little girl who pushed him. It was around this same time she started questioning why she was who she was. She went to the church and begged the priest to help cleanse her of any and on sins placed on her. After speaking with him and praying for her soul, she was blessed with the feeling of being cleansed. This was the beginning of her devotion to the faith. She became more interested in the creator and how he worked in everyone.

Age 7

Kaila began meeting more and more poeple as she grew. By the time she reached seven, she had mad plenty of friends. She also learned about how cold people were. She first experienced coldness from her fellow Mali'ker when they decided to take over the throne room. Being only a child there wasn't much she could do other than hold her ground and try to tell them they had to leave. After much arguing, the three Mali'ker left, but not without leaving a subtle threat in their wake. Unfased, Kaila stood strong and went back to wandering the courtyard of Salvus. It was at this time she soon met a famous healer, Nienna, who knew her mother quite well.

The two talked for a while before Kaila retreated back home for the night. Several days passed and Kaila found herself curious. She spotted a Rose in town and began asking him questions about her attackers. Fitzroy and Lowegde. The Rose did not give her good information but she would not give up. For days she thought about how she could learn the identities of the men who cut her ears. It wasn't long until her curiosity got the better of her and she began asking to go to Malinor. Aislinn, an old rival of her mother's, came and offered to escort her there.

As the two walked, Kaila began feeling aprehensive about going the way she had been attacked and begged Aislinn to take her another route. As he complied, Garth spotted them and Kaila soon ended up grounded. She was confined to her room and left there, unable to do more than read her books. Some relief came when Khel visited and she was given a chance to train with him. Happy to oblidge, Kaila and Khel trained. It was a little while later that Garth allowed Kaila to wander Salvus once more, however she was not allowed to leave the sight of the shields.

This was fine with Kaila as she found a place of solitude and peace in one of the trees just outside the gate. She watched as Shields would walk by, or even read. It was on a particularily cool evening that Kaila met with the Blue Mustache. No matter what he asked, Kaila stayed strong and avoided answering his questions, however she did not realize he was going to be using her for money. Kaila struggled the best she could but ended up with a badly bruised cheek and missing teeth, luckily they were only baby teeth. As it fell to night, Kaila spent her time trying to get away, trying to get home to her father, unaware that she would soon be set free.

Rufaro, a loyal shield of her mother's, had sent some minas for her release. As soon as she was released and spotted the minas, she tried to take it back, failing miserably. However, she had managed to stall him enough for Khel, Valadax, and Rufaro to find her and retrieve the minas. Kaila was returned hom with her minor wounds and was all the more happier to be within the walls of Salvus. However, Kaelys's friend, Sha, had begun to cause problems for the family. A rumor was being spread that Sha was "sleeping around" and thus caused Garth to warn Kaila about it.

Kaila was unaware of the joke and ended up getting Sha and her father fighting. This put a damper on her relationship with Kaelys. Slowly Kaila began to win the repsect of her family. She studied hard, made sure to try and prove herself. She did not want to be known as the filthy bastard of Salvus. During this time, she made sure to keep herself quiet and reserved around her extended family. Ryder, one of her Aunts, finally saw Kaila as more than that and the two began to talk. Ryder offered Kaila a chance to study in the capital with Ari.

Although the thought of being near Horen scared her, Kaila was thrilled to see that she could prove herself in good ways. She made sure to think on it, and soon she was more than ready to show the world she was more than a mali'ker child. She even managed to slip away from Salvus with the help of Artimec. There she was turned to the High Elven city to watch a memorial service. Spotting Ivan, she found herself watching in awe of the event as a storm began to roll in. Kaila was beginning to finally understand her roots.

Age 8

Kaila soon became humbled when she turned eight. Her birthday was quiet and peaceful for most of the day until later in the afternoon when Roses came into Salvus. Kaila spent her time outside and when some roses showed up, she was told to go back inside and hide. She raced into the keep and put everyone on high alert. They locked the gates and were watching the main entrace of the keep with Kaila among them, however this had put her in grave danger. As Artimec moved closer to her to calm her down, searing pain shot through her as the fateful sound of a bolt being fired was heard.

In agony and unable to move, Kaila laid on the floor as the shields raced off to apprehend the assassin. As carefully as he could Artimec carried Kaila away from the keep and into a healer's office where a doctor quickly came by to heal her. After hours of agony and careful movement of the bolt, it was removed from her spine, however it was unclear what kind of damage had happened. Told she would most likely be able to walk once again, Artimec carried her to Vaerhaven and away from the chaos that ensured in Salvus.

From there, she spent days in the clinic in Vaerhaven, sleeping mostly. When she finally awoke she could no longer feel her legs. Upset by this, she would mope for a while until she saw her first snowflake floating into the clinic by way of an open door. Smiling, she ended up out in the snow where her teacher, Cir'dian, finds her relaxing in the snow. After a small talk, Garth ended up bringing her back to Salvus. It was then that he presented her with a gift. He brought out an old wheelchair for her to use.

Most of her eigth year was spent in the wheelchair. She became friends with many people, mainly commoners, in Salvus. She had taken a liking to Queen Aila who began playing with her to keep her occupied. She even had a nice fishing trip with her father. She did not let her disability keep her down however. She went back to wandering around Salvus and keeping herself friendly and high in spirits. Her lessons continued with Cir'dian and soon she was studying Astronomy, a subject she had found highly interesting.
