In-Character:

-Character Name: Chuma “The Plague Doctor” Yed

-What is your Race?: Human

-Lordofthecraft.net/forum forum account: Osafiny

-Biography:

Born in a tiny and isolated village in the wilderness, Chuma Yed grew to childhood as the son of the village’s doctor. As the only doctor in a dangerous wilderness, Chuma’s father was overworked and, consequently, well practiced at remedying nearly every kind of injury, infection, and illness. In Chuma’s childhood and adolescence, Chuma learned from the medical skill of his father, so that he could one day follow in his father’s footsteps and become a doctor himself. During his training, Chuma showed exceptional skill with controlling and curing all manner of infections and diseases. Unfortunately, Chuma also began to inherit his father’s resentment of the other townspeople, and began to see everyone as just another needy, whiny, and sickly patient.

When Chuma grew to adulthood he took over the family business and donned the protective robes and beaklike mask his father always used to wear to keep himself healthy and sterile. The combination of his medical profession and his constant experimentation with poisons and bacterial pathogens (although he had no idea what bacteria were, given the lack of microscopes and other devices) earned him the nickname “The Plague Doctor” among the townsfolk. As his skill grew, so too did his hate towards his patients. The only times he enjoyed his job was when sick or poisoned patients came to him, so that he could experiment on them. Eventually, he began to experiment with more than just the patients that came in with sicknesses and viruses already. He would purposely infect wounds to study the progression of the infection, and he would dip his medical instruments into cultures of dangerous viruses to study the effects of the pathogens on unsuspecting farmers. Soon, his entire unsuspecting village was constantly under the pal of a carefully manufactured a disease they came to call “The Pestilence”. As The Plague Doctor’s age waxed, his sanity waned. Even after the people of the village grew wise enough to stop willingly going to Chuma for medical attention, his obsession drove him to begin to make “house calls”. No family that ever received one of The Plague Doctor’s house calls was ever heard from again. Then one day, finally, there was no one left.

For a time, The Plague Doctor was content to remain in the ghost town that he had created, experimenting in the decay and desolation. A thick, corrosive fog descended upon the town, and within months every trace of the town had eroded into nothingness. Not content to rot in the wilderness for the rest of his days, Chuma Yad, The Plague Doctor, set out to find new “patients” in the civilized lands of Oren.

-Character Age: 65

-Character Appearance: The Plague Doctor remains clothed at all times out of his fear of becoming contaminated with disease or toxins. If he were to ever take his protective gear off he would appear as a thin, extremely pale, and bald old man. His preferred garb consists of a shin-length, thick, dark brown overcoat. He also wears an ivory colored beak-shaped mask connected to a black head-concealing cowl at all times, as well was a broad rimmed hat. Finally, he almost never removes his prized leather doctor’s gloves.

-Character Personality: The Plague Doctor is a man possessed by the darkest sides of his medical profession. He cares little about actually helping the hurt or sick, but he is obsessed with furthering his personal knowledge of medical practices and theory. He views almost everyone as just another potential “patient” to experiment upon, regardless if they need help or not. He’s not so detached from reality that he’d randomly throw vials of poison into a town’s water supply in full view of everyone, but he wouldn’t hesitate to do it in the dead of night if he knew he could get away with it and study the results. He presents himself cordially to other people, and never raises a hand in violence unprovoked, but would delight in carving up an anesthetized vagrant that wouldn’t be missed.

-Your ambitions: The Plague Doctor is guided by his own horrifyingly warped perception of achieving perfect medical excellence. He wants to understand everything about every possible injury and illness, and is more than willing to inflict them upon people to further his research. He understands that most people do not approve of his methods though, and has the sense to present himself as a more compassionate healer, but does so only to keep up his supply of patients.

-Can your character read or write?: Yes. Specifically, The Doctor has extensively read medical texts.

-Can your character mine?: No. Doctors do not risk their lives in mines.

-Are you a capable builder?: Having lived alone after his father died, The Doctor learned how to do repair work and house renovation for himself, but he couldn’t build a mansion from the ground up without significant help.

-Can you wield a sword?: Not so much. The Doctor is more of a Scalpel Jockey than a Swordsman.

-Enjoy Farming?: No.

-Does your character have any special skills?: The Plague Doctor has spent nearly his entire life practicing medicine, and is highly proficient at it. The Doctor is more than capable of performing dangerous and even experimental surgeries, as well as setting and mending all manner of broken bones and flesh wounds. The Doctor is especially skilled with diseases and poisons, not only with curing them, but also cultivating and spreading them. Although he doesn’t know what bacteria or viruses truly are, given the current lack of simple technology like microscopes in the world, he has determined through experimentation that diseases behave living things, and has become proficient with breeding and raising them. The Doctor keeps many vials of horrifying and deadly diseases, as well as their antidotes, on his person and around his home.
