Living The Past

Only putting this here because I can. Slight relevance only ^^

As you walk on the Anthos Highway, you notice a man and a woman next to a large tree. He seems to be wearing some sort of light-colored robe while she wears the robe of a Monk.
He sits under a tree, its leaves offering some shelter from the heavy rain that suddenly begins to fall. Quickly, you decide to seek shelter from the rain under a nearby tree as well, close enough to hear the man speaking.
She leans against the tree, directly next to him, watching him curiously. He takes a deep breath and looks up at the dark, rainy sky before starting to speak once again:

"I... I don't remember my name. I don't know who I am. I keep living in a past that I do not even know myself. All I remember is my childhood and the time I spent in Aegis, if only vaguely. I do not have... well, direct memories of it. I only dream about it and I keep reliving my past in those dreams. Yet, my existence up to this point is.. a mystery, to say at least."

He sighs and lets his head hanging, watching the raindrops hitting the floor.

"I spent my childhood in the grand city of Al'Khazar. In my dreams, I still see the city square, the guards chasing after villains and alike, the royal family greeting everyone and the merchants going after their usual business. It's... still there, in my head. I can literally see, hear and feel it. Yet, I do not remember the name my mother used to call me or the way my father spoke to me."

He pauses and rubs his forehead before looking up again, a spark in his eyes.

"I also dream about great wars and battles, battles that I took part in, it seems. Although... the sight of killing a man with my own hands.. it's.. unbearable."

He looks down at the ground as if he is seeing it right now, his body is slightly shaking.

"Men and women in black robes with weird trims took part in those battles as well. They... feel familiar, as if I know them. In one of my dreams, I got close to one and I could smell the rotten flesh that fulfilled the man's face. They fought the races of Aegis and slowly pushed them towards the Cloud Temple. Malinor, Kal'Urguan, Sanjezal and Oren... all nations suffered from their attacks."

He stops for a moment, trying to take a deep breath before continuing.

"I.. I apologize f-for stuttering, t-talking about all those.. experiences and d-dreams isn't easy.
...
I still remember the face of the woman I loved and spent a few years with, away from all the commotion. She also keeps appearing in my dreams, however, she also wears those dark robes. We.. we even had a baby, I think. Neither do I remember their names nor do I know where they are at today."

He wipes away a single tear that is running down his cheek with the fingertip of his hand, leaving a small golden trail behind.

"Bloody nether, I don't even know if they are alive or not and what happened to them!"

He slams his fist against a nearby tree, his body trembling now.

"My own family, gone. My own family, forgotten. My wife, my child, lost. How can I move on? I can not go back, to Aegis, the now-forsaken realm. I... I don't know anything about the previous world, the Verge. All I know is that this is where the survivors of Aegis fled to. What about me, you may ask now. Eh, I woke up from a deep slumber here in Anthos. I stepped out of the Cloud Temple and with the help of the Monks, I got the basic tools for survival. “

He turns to the woman and looks up at her, examining her closely.

“You are a monk too, aren't you? How can I ever repay you for your eternal kindness, how can I even accept this kindness, maybe I am just going to forget about it like I did with all those other things..."

He shifts a little under the tree before looking up at the sky once again.

"For the past weeks, I have been wandering around, looking for any signs of my past or people that I may remember. It feels hopeless, not knowing if I'll ever find out what caused my memory loss or where my family is. It's not just that though.

What is my purpose? Why do I even exist? My life feels worthless."

He falls silent before turning back to her, a shy smile spreading across his face.

"I... uh, thank you for listening, I guess. I hope it was not too boring and I do not.. appear to be some insane fool. Well, maybe that's what I am."

He chuckles quietly before standing up and folding hands behind his back.

"I need a name. Hrmmm, got any ideas?

Personally, I think 'Lym' sounds good."
