Do not take any definitions from elsewhere!: Role-playing: Role-playing is pretending you are the character you play as. You would use their thoughts and opinions to influence your characters decisions. Meta-gaming: The use of OOC knowledge in your role-play. One example of this is knowing a characters name without them actually telling it to you. Power-emoting: power-emoting is when you force an action upon another without giving them a chance to react. An example of this would be if Player1 unsheathes his sword and stabs Player2’s stomach. This is clearly power-emoting , as Player2 was given to chance to react to Player1’s emote.In-Character Information:Complete the following biography on your character: Full Name: James Lawrence Current Age: 21 Sub-race (if any): Human Past / History (include childhood, major-events, etc. 2+ paragraphs long): James Lawrence Jr. was born to a rich couple as an only child. His mother’s name was Abigail and his father’s name, of course, was James. James Sr. owned a fairly successful shipping company while his mother stayed home and cared for the child and kept the house in order. The merchant company often sold its goods to Salvus, and on rare occasions, Kal’Halla .Living on the coast and living a lavished lifestyle often gave James Jr. time to explore the coast and roam the docks. At the docks, he loved to watch his father’s sailors load cargo onto the ships and brawl with rival sailors. James looked up to his father and wanted to take over the family business once he was old enough to do so. However, James knew nothing of the sea. He had never actually been out in the ocean, nor had he had any experience with trading/ bartering. It was clear to his parents that something had to be done about this. So one night while James slept, his parents thought of a plan. The only way to teach James how to sail and learn the ways of the sea, was to learn firsthand and work on his father’s ships. It wasn’t hard to figure out where James would work on the ship. Being only 9 years old, James would work as the ships new cabin boy. So the next morning, James’s parents explained to him that if he was to some day run his father’s company, then he would have to start learning how to sail. It was then that they told him that he was now the O’Ryan’s [the ships name] new cabin boy. Oh how James was delighted to hear this! In James’s eyes, this meant that he was growing up, and that his family trusted him with the very future of the Lawrence family. “When do we head to port?” James asked his father. James Sr. smiled and replied “Right now, my son”. After breakfast, the two stood and bid Abigail farewell and set out on horseback for the docks. When the two got to the docks, James’s father put a hand on James’s shoulder and pointed out a small two masted ship. Painted in gold lettering near the bow was the name “O’Ryan”. “That, James, is our ship”, James’s father said triumphantly. James frowned at the ship. It didn’t look very magnificent like his father always told him. The ship’s hull oozed green slime whenever the sea water splashed up against it and there seemed to be a foul stench emitting from within. James latter found out that the awful stench was the crew.. James finally forced a smile and said “Well.. I’m proud to be sailing on the O’Ryan”. At this, his father smiled and hopped off his horse and motioned for his son to follow. “Come, I’ll introduce you to the crew” his father said as James followed. As James and his father boarded the ship, James Sr. shouted “All abled bodied men, front and center!” The sailors all stopped what they were doing and all made their way to the center of the ship. The sailors paid little attention to James, most of them not doing anything but starring ahead, seemingly bored. “Men,” James’s father said “let me introduce you to our new cabin boy, James Lawrence Junior.” The crew shifted their gaze towards James and grinned. They all surged forward and began slapping him on the back and congratulating him on joining the crew. James smiled and began thanking all the men, but as soon as he started to do so, James’s father shouted for everyone to get back to work. The crew quickly backed away from James upon hearing this and began loading crates back onto the ship. “Father, what should I do?” asked James. His father grunted and said “Well for starters, you can go help.” James nodded and went below deck, heading into the kitchen and began helping the cook with dinner. James didn’t really cook that night. It was more like setting the table for the crew and being a servant. James instantly hated this job. James hated taking orders and never really had to set tables or cook. Usually that was his family’s servant’s job, not his. However, James had made a commitment and decided to stick this job out. The next morning, the ship set sail. For three years James continued to work as a cabin boy. He hated the work that came with it. James only thought of himself as the crews servant. He was never allowed to partake in any bartering and was never allowed to leave the ship unless it docked at home. Finally James couldn’t take it anymore. After a night of work, James stormed up to the deck and made his way towards his father’s quarters. James burst through the door and yelled at the top of his lungs “I WILL NOT STAND FOR THIS!” His father calmly turned towards James and asked quietly “What do you mean..?” James grits his teeth and snarled “I will not put up with being the ships BUTLER!” James’s father stood up from behind his desk and calmly strode towards James, backhanding him. “YOU WILL NOT DISRESPECT ME IN MY QUARTERS, LET ALONE MY SHIP!” James rubbed his cheek, glaring at his father while he pressed on “However.. I think the time has come that I use you to your full potential. You are no longer a young lad, you’re thirteen years old.” His father paused for a moment and exhaled. “That is why I am moving you into an auxiliary crew” sighed his father. Finally, after a long silence, James said quietly “I-Thank you Captain James..” James’s father nodded and dismissed James. After James was promoted, he began to thrive. He followed orders, kept himself clean and presentable and his fellow auxiliary crew loved him. James worked in the auxiliary crew for 3 years until he was promoted to third mate after the original had fallen ill and passed away. James worked as the O’Ryans third mate for 2 years until one day that changed everything. One hot summer day when the O’Ryan was about to dock in Kal’Halla, a shot rang out through the air. Then there was the splintering of wood and screams from below deck of the O’Ryan. The man in the crow’s nest shouted below “Pirates to the east!” Upon hearing this, James started yelling to the men on deck “Man the ballista’s! PREPARE FOR BATTLE!” At this, the handful of men on deck started running around and started cranking the ballista’s back. At this moment, James Sr. made his way out of his quarters and on deck. The captain took one look at the attacking ship and paled. He knew that his vessel had neither the fire power nor the man power to take on its attackers. The young captain took a look at the panic stricken men and sighed. He knew that if they stayed and fought, they would all be dead before the battle was over. James Sr. wanted some chance of survival for his men so he did the only thing he could think of: he was going to abandon ship. The captain made his way to the middle of the deck and raised his arms. “Stop what you are doing, men! Have you no sight to see that you fight for an unattainable goal?!” At this, the men stopped what they were doing and slowly turned towards their captain. “Well?” the captain shouted. “Prepare the lifeboa-“The captain never finished his sentence. A faint whistling was heard and then the sounds of a blade hitting flesh. Everyone on the ship watched in horror as the young captains headless body fell to the ground. Then, as if on que, someone shouted “A ballista must have taken his head off!” James began to hyperventilate upon seeing his fathers decapitated body and staggered to the railing and vomiting all over himself. Then someone yelled “GET DOWN!” . James instinctively got down and splashed in his pool pool of vomit .Once again there was the nauseating sound of splintering wood. Men were sprawled on deck, arms and legs scattered everywhere. Some screamed, others moaned. Men below deck ran up from below and screamed “She’s taking on water! ABANDON SHIP!” Men then began diving over the side of the ship, while others were desperately trying to cut the lifeboats free. Another volley of ballista fire ripped through one of the lifeboats the men were freeing, sending all of them overboard. James began to panic. All around him men were dying or dead. Blood soaked the deck of the ship and caused some sailors to slip. James finally stood up and leapt over the side of the ship just as the last ballista’s ripped the hull apart. As James hit the water he immediately resurfaced. James coughed and sputtered, trying to swim away from the sinking boat. If he was caught there, he was sure to be sucked under with the O’Ryan. Frantically, James swam further and further away from the sinking ship. He swam past drowning men and swam along with those who could. James glanced behind him to find the ship rolling over on its starboard side. “She’s goin’ under!” shouted one of the men beside James. James glanced around and saw a lifeboat nearby. James sputtered and coughed and began swimming towards the boat. In no time he was being hauled into the boat by its passengers. James lay at the bottom of the boat, gasping for breath. “We can’t take any more men, they’re gonna swamp us if we do” growled one of the survivors. The others agreed and began rowing the boat to shore, trying to block out the cries of help from their once strong companions. Sometime later James’s mother died. When James arrived home after the sinking of the O’Ryan, he told his mother what had happened. James Sr.’s passing had completely broken Abigail’s spirit. James’s father was the only man she had ever truly loved and now he was gone. Her husband was just “taken away from her” as she saw it. She wouldn’t eat and never left her bed. All day she lay in bed with a dull and blank expression on her face. Her once beautiful features had become hollow and dead. Just 4 months after the sinking of the O’Ryan, Abigail passed away. James had her cremated and spread her ashes out over the water as for her to be with her husband again. James hasn’t been home since then. Since the Lawrence families business was crippled, James took what money his family had left and now intends to purchase a ship. You can usually find James in the Kal’Halla pub. James is currently searching for a crew and hopes to start up his family’s business again. Ambitions for the Future: James’s only ambitions for the future are to restore the Lawrence family to its former glory. James is using the last of his family’s fortune to pay for a ship and to pay for a sea worthy crew. James hopes to eventually start up his family’s merchant company again. Personality: James is very tight with his money. He is a loud and boisterous man. He often loves to pick fights at the local taverns. James never backs down from a fight, no matter what the odds are. James however prefers to take command and is not one to follow another’s choices. Skills: Despite drinking heavily and charging into fights, James is a wise man when it comes to commanding a ship. James isn’t very agile but he is a strong and bulky man. James is quit handy with a scimitar if he is given the chance to use one. Working on a merchant ship has also taught James how to barter and never to spend a dime without it being necessary. Appearance (this must include an in-game screenshot of your skin): James Lawrence is a 5’9 male. He has long, overgrown black hair and beard. James has brown eyes and always wears a bandana under his gold trimmed peaked hat. James usually wears a big blue gold trimmed naval jacket and pants and is usually seen in big leather boots. Whilst in the mighty human capital you notice a dark-clothed figure stealthily making his way towards the Emperor’s palace - he is clearly up to no good. There are guards within shouting distance - what do you do? Answer: James would glare at the hooded figure. James reaches for his scimitar but thinks for a moment. James notices the guards and let’s go of his scimitar, making his way towards the guards. James points to the hooded figure and the guard’s immediately run after the man. Having the element of surprise, the guards grab the man’s arms and snarl “It’s off to the dungeons with you!” As the guards begin to carry the man away, one of the guards flips a coin to a smiling James.2. Whilst wandering in the deep oak forest you come across a large clearing, in which sits a small cobbled cottage. Outside it stands an unstable old man armed with a small iron blade, surrounded by two heavily armed bandits - they appear to be threatening him. You are armed with leather armor and an iron longsword, how do you react? Answer: James would glare at the two bandits harassing the man. If it were two men against two then this would be no problem, but two against one..That just didn’t sit well with James. “I have to help that man” thought James. James would then unsheathe his sword and yell to the two men “You honor less bastards!” The three men would then turn to see James making his way to the old mans side. One of the bandits grunted and the other said “Who the nether are you callin’ honor less!?” James would grin and say “Well I’m not talking to the old man.” At this, the bandit to James’s right would raise his axe and take a step towards James. As James prepares for the attack, the bandit howls in pain as the old man’s sword pierces his hand. Before James can react, the second bandit rams his elbow into James’s unprotected nose, causing him to stumble back. As blood pours out of James’s nose, he grins. James then charges the bandit who struck him, leaving the old man to deal with the second bandit. James swings his sword at the bandits now drawn sword, causing a loud clang to be heard. As the swords connect, James goes to knee the bandit’s groin. The bandit grunts and drops to his knees. As the bandit falls, James smacks the hilt of his sword into the bandit’s forehead, causing him to fall onto his back. James grins and points his sword at the bandit’s neck. James then glances behind him just in time to see the second bandit fall flat on his back, unconscious. The old man then kneels and begins to bound the unconscious bandits hands and feet, muttering “That’ll teach you bastards to rob me..” James would then laugh as the old man makes his way over to the other fallen bandit and bound his feet and hands. James then steps off of the bandit and sheaths his sword, noticing that the old man now has things under control.3. You are standing within the mighty human capital when you notice a small man standing behind a colourful stall. You approach the stall and notice that the man is selling a variety of general goods - he says that he is selling just about anything and that he has no set prices. He is willing to allow you to haggle and choose prices. What do you do? (Explain: your haggling, items of choice and the discussion that happens). Answer: Upon inspection, James notices a fine looking smoking pipe on the stall’s counter. “How much for that pipe?” James asks the shop keep. The man stares at the pipe for a while, scratching his chin. “I’ll give it to you for 25 coins.” James bites his lip and replies “How about 10 coins?” The shop keep grunts “You’re going to have to go up a few coins, friend. “ James smiles expecting this. “How about..13 coins?” James asks. “Two coins more and we have a deal” chuckles the shop keep. James smiles and pulls out 15 coins and hands them over to the shop keep, the shop keep handing over the pipe. James nods to the shop keep one last time before turning and leaving.
