Roxforbraynz 251 Share Posted August 10, 2013 Elwen sits upon a bench overlooking the lake in the middle of Lin’Evaral. She reads a book in her lap, flipping the pages lazily. She’s read this book a hundred times before... Her thoughts wander and think upon what she has seen in her rather short lifetime. Though for all her knowledge and intelligence, there’s one thing she can’t figure out. One that that that eludes her. What was it?! She continues to flip through her book... Time passes and the sun slowly lowers towards the horizon. She thinks about her sister, Emma... one quarter Halfling and three quarters High Elf... She remembers the hatred she held for Emma when she was young because of her own High Elven upbring. She remembers when they first started bonding, when Elwen showed her sketches to Emma. At first, it just felt like she was expressing her superiority, but as Emma began to look up to her, she found it to be something more. Soon, she didn’t care about her sister’s race. She was just her sister... and that’s what mattered. Elwen’s thoughts wandered deeper... her time with the other races and her fellow Elves. While they could be stupid at times, she found that each person was amazing in their own right. Dwarves knew stones and metals like no other. Humans were optimistic and always joyful, making the most of their short lives. The Orcs, while crude, were strong and honorable. There’s much that could be learned from the other races... yet the High Elves push them away... Elwen slams her book shut and shakes her head, squinting her eyes shut. She’s thinking about this too deeply... It’s getting late... she should get some rest... The next day, late in the evening, Elwen is sitting around in the Inn, sipping a cup of tea that levitates in front of her by her Telekinetic abilities. Her mind wanders into thought again of some more recent events. She recalls the young one she met not too long after re-entering the city. For her young age, she seemed to show very little emotion and seemed like she had broken a rule when she did show it. She remembers what she said to the girl, that emotions make life better and less of a burden. Why do the High Elves teach emotion to be a bad thing, then? Continuing to think, she also notices her own increase of emotions. Laughing more often, smiling and being mischievous. She has felt much better than before, when she suppressed such feelings... Has time among the other races made her soft? Or is there more to it than that? Elwen closes her eyes and thinks... Is this really what she should do? Is this right? She contemplates... and then makes her decision... ((To be continued...))
